I... I am not a weapon!
~ X-23

You say I have nowhere to go.
You say I have to be here.
I know that things are always changing.
I know now's the time to go.

~ Theme of X-23

Summary

Laura Kinney AKA X-23 is a protagonist from the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Cloned from a a damaged gene cell from James "Logan" Howlett, she was designed as a weapon for the Weapon X. Just like the Mutant she was made from, Laura's claws and feet are coated in the incredibly durable metal known as Adamantium, which she uses for her retractable claws and foot talons. She would go on to operate as the Facility's assassination for years, facing several tragedies that lead her to meeting Wolverine and the X-Men. X-23 went on to join the X-Men in their fight against malicious threats as a means to turn her live around for the better.

In response to the threat of Galactus, X-23 aided several other Marvel and Capcom characters in fighting the World Eater.

All Marvel vs. Capcom characters can pull off a Super Jump, which involves leaping high into the air in a single bound), Bodily Weaponry (X-23’s hands and feet are coated in Adamantium, which allow her freely retractable claws and foot talons to act as deadly blades in combat), Enhanced Senses (As a clone of Wolverine, X-23 possesses his heightened sense, which are described as animal instincts[4][5]. Logically, Laura would also be capable of sensing individuals tracking her while hidden[6]), Healing and Regeneration (Mid-Low; Possesses the same regenerative capabilities as Wolverine, meaning Laura can regenerate her health/vitality[7] as well as heal up scars[8]), Energy Manipulation (Attacks involving her claws tend to strike while covered in a red energy[3][1]), Damage Boost (Can charge her Neck Slice and Ankle Slice attacks to deal greater damage[3][1]), Information Analysis (Her analytical capabilities are potent enough to where she can identify several different ways to defeat an opponent the moment she sees them[3][1]), Invisibility (Laura can turn invisible when performing Silent Kill, only becoming visible after a short duration has passed, or once she has landed her final attack), Limited Flight (Talon Attack allows X-23 to briefly fly in the air, even capable of moving diagonally upwards[3][1]), Self-Sustenance (Type 1; Can fight in space undeterred[1]), Afterimage Creation (Leaves behind a trail of afterimages when performing Mirage Feint[3][1]), Statistics Amplification and Healing (Activating X-Factor temporarily increases its user's strength and speed while healing them at a rapid pace[9][1]. Blocking attacks in this state also prevents chip damage[1]), Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Due to possessing the same super-healing ability as Wolverine, Laura is incredibly resistant to chemicals and poisonous gasses[10][11]), Cosmic Radiation (Capable of fighting in space unharmed[1])

Attack Potency: Brown Dwarf level (Due to being cloned from a damaged Wolverine gene sample and receiving the same Adamantium treatment for her hands and feet,[1][2] Laura would be comparable in strength to Logan.[Statistics Values 1] Capable of defeating Galactus[3][1]), higher with X-Factor

Speed: FTL (Comparable to Wolverine. Kept up with Galactus[3][1]), higher with X-Factor

Lifting Strength: Class Y (Comparable to Wolverine. Every character capable of beating Galactus should be able to break out of his attempt to crush them in the boss fight, with the latter being capable of holding an entire planet in his hands[3][1])

Striking Strength: Brown Dwarf level, higher with X-Factor

Durability: Brown Dwarf level, higher with X-Factor

Stamina: Superhuman

Range: Standard Melee Range; Extended Melee Range with claws and talons

Intelligence: Gifted (As she was created for the sole purpose of being the perfect killing machine, X-23 was trained early into her life[1]. Her extensive training as a top-secret operative allowed her to become a master of multiple martial arts forms and an expert in assassination techniques.[1][2] Laura proved herself to be a highly effective assassin over the years working under the Facility, capable of identifying 17 different ways to defeat an opponent the moment she glances at them[3][1], and will not hesitate to target areas of the body that specifically benefit an enemy's abilities or fighting style if she feels it is necessary[1]. Later, she would go on to join the X-Men, in which she would go through Danger Room simulations to further enhance her combative prowess[3][1]. Laura's lethality in battle is enough to where Wolverine describes her as a "vicious kid", supported by her tendency to go for fatal blows[3][1])

Weaknesses: Laura's Adamantium hands and feet leaves her vulnerable to magnetism-based attacks[3][1]. She can only equip up to three card effects at a time.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Falling Claw: While airborne, X-23 plunges straight downwards with her claws and talons pointed down.

  • Throw: Laura grabs her opponent, swinging herself upwards and landing on their back so she can wrap one leg around their neck and another around their arm. X-23 then stabs into the opponent's chest twice before kicking them away.
  • Back Throw: Laura grabs her opponent, pulling herself upwards and wrapping both legs around her opponent's arms. X-23 then stabs into the opponent's back twice before kicking them away, now positioned behind them.
  • Aerial Throw: While airborne, Laura grabs her opponent, swinging herself upwards and landing on their back so she can wrap one leg around their neck and another around their arm. X-23 then stabs into the opponent's chest twice before kicking towards the ground.
  • Aerial Back Throw: While airborne, Laura grabs her opponent, pulling herself upwards and wrapping both legs around her opponent's arms. X-23 then stabs into the opponent's back twice before kicking them to the ground, now positioned behind them.

  • Neck Slice: X-23 performs a rushing upward aiming dash slash. Can be charged for higher damage.
  • Ankle Slice: X-23 performs a dashing slash attack close to the ground. Can be charged for higher damage.
  • Decapitating Slice: X-23 backflips before lunging forwards. She then hops onto her opponent's back, snapping their neck between her legs. While performing this, she repositions her body towards the ground, placing her hands on the ground and pushing off of them to send the opponent into the air by kicking with both foot talons.
  • Talon Attack: An aerial attack in which X-23 dive kicks at her opponent. Laura can aim this attack forwards, diagonally downwards, or diagonally upwards.
  • Crescent Scythe: X-23 performs a somersault kick, taking advantage of her foot talons to slash the opponent. Can be performed aerially.
  • Mirage Feint: X-23 leaps forward, leaving behind afterimages in the process. Mirage Feint provides utility for slipping behind opponents or simply closing the distance in a less predictable manner. Laura can use different variants that determine the speed, distance, and trajectory taken when performing this move.

  • Rage Trigger: X-23 performs two forward somersaults with all claws exposed and finishes with a reverse upward backflip.
  • Weapon X Prime: X-23 rushes forward at her opponent and attacks. Upon connecting her attack, she performs a barrage of melee attacks, before finishing off with two large slashes.
  • Silent Kill: X-23 performs a backflip and becomes completely invisible. While in this phase, Laura can perform a unique attack in which she appears above her opponent and stabs them in the back of the head.
