Save and load (work in progress)

The ability to save an load is given to the person with the most determination as stated by flowey. The person with this power in question creates their own save file which utilises save points. Save points are created at a point when the user has immense levels of determination, which in turn allows them to wind time back to the point that they saved, with said save point being overridden as soon as they create a new one.

Save files themselves essentially act as a "control panel" given to the user that allows them to manipulate the timeline. The person with the most amount of determination will be able to create a save file and use it to manipulate the timeline, causing the previous users save file to disappear and cease functioning. Unfortunately based on the given dialogue [1] when you play through the game without resetting or reloading, the creation or destruction a save file does not equate to the creation or destruction of the timeline itself. The existence of a save file is completely absent until the person with the most determination creates one, despite the timeline being perfectly intact. However the save file can still of course be destroyed in cases where the timeline is destroyed as seen by Asriels fight, and the manipulation of multiple save files would equate to the manipulating alternate timelines with their own respective save files, shown in the fight with photoshop flowey.

In addition, when you reload, the routes you took throughout the game branch off into their own seperate timelines as explained by sans if you go through the genocide route after reloading your save previously.[]

Sans statement here is completely valid and non contradicted. It is both from a credible source who is knowledgeable on the timelines but is backed up by alphys outright stating the existence of timelines. The only argument that can be made against the timelines existences is that sans is just referring to the change in one timeline which is consistent and that frisk is traveling back in time. This is simply refuted by the fact that sans refers to the act of jumping left and right and stopping and starting, with the former two being an impossible action that can be taken with one timleine only. In addition frisk can easily rewind time normally, with said action birthing a new timeline where the route he previously took exists so long as the physics of the reality allow this to happen. Both the winding back of time and creation of timelines from reloading are established rules in verse and should not be disregarded at all, though it is clear that some characters such as frisk and flowey at least dont exist in these branched off timelines once they reload, though why this is the case is rather unknown.

(outdated notes: Photoshop flowey saving and reloading multiple times is an efficient version of what he was doing before, while switching between alternate save files.

Flowey surpassed frisks determination.

Flowey here, stated that when he tried to load his save file, he couldnt do it simply because charas determination was greater. So only one person can use the save and load mechanic at a time. And the one who has greater determination, can do it.

Photoshop flowey has absorbed six human souls, which were each empowered with a ridiculous amount of determination.

Reset and true reset (work in progress)

The true reset unlike the normal reset, affects the totality of the games reality and completely wipes out all previous data.

This is made extremely clear. Both charas end game destruction feat and yours wipe out everyones memories completely including floweys, completely remove any evidence of your previous changing of timelines as shown by the fact that sans does not bring this up if you fight him without reloading after the true reset, the total erasure of save files which are only created after you reload normally, the ability to change the fallen humans name logically affecting a time before even the reset point, and the indication from flowey that this would erase everything. Both the true reset and charas endgame feat are the same ability (though performed somewhat differently).

Statistics and determination

Determination is a force which is normally found inside souls

Hp being used linearly can be debunked with a simple analogy. Someone with 1000 hp comes in and takes around 25 fully powered hits to die (making them around your level), meaning you would do 40 points of damage to them with each max power attack. A person with 133 hp steps in. Despite being 7.5 times weaker than you (gap to one shot), this person would take three maximum strength hits and keep going despite such a gap logically leading to a one shot.

The argument that hp cannot be used because linear scaling is inconsistent is debunked by the fact they cant be used for direct linear scaling to begin with. It is literally the equivilent of saying that someone who gets killed by someone in 4 punches is twice as strong as someone who barely dies from two punches. That method would be illogical in real life and is not logical here. Hp is simply a system in a game which determines how close a character is to death and how many hits the person can take. Defence determines how much damage they will take. In any game, these two factors intertwine to form a characters durability. In undertales case, this holds true, only its cannon and can be used for scaling.

Factoring hp without scaling linearly in addition fixes many of the inconsistencies that arise from scaling through pure stats alone.

Link between frisk chara and the player (near complete)

To look at this we first need to look at chara and floweys story. Chara fell into the underground, and asriel became best friends with asriel, which lead to events resulting in asriel absorbing a dead charas soul and later dying on a bed of flowers, turning to ash and having said ash scatter across the flowers leaving their essence apon it effectively reincarnating them. As explained in the lab entries alphys gave the flower with asriels essence scattered apon it the determination from a human soul. This effectively brought asriel to life, only he didn’t have a soul and only had a flower as his body and a bunch of determination creating flowey. Or as alphys puts it “giving something without a soul the will to live” Chara on the other hand was only awoken when frisk fell onto the bed of flowers. Chara as she states in her speech at the end of genocide woke up at this point with her last memory being their death, confused as to why she was brought back from the dead. Effectively giving something which does not have a soul the will to live. The only difference here is that you/the player, are the source of determination allowing this to happen as oppose to an extract from a human soul.

In shorter terms. Chara possesses frisk the same way asriel possesses his own flower, and the player acts as the source of determination keeping them alive. This gives a pretty clear explanation as to why flowey talks to both frisk and the player, always calling them by the fallen childs name and is even backed up by an old word of god statement pretty much confirming that you and the fallen child (to some extent) are the same person.

This changes at the end of pacifist and genocide.

At the end of pacifist. Frisk who to some extent acts as a body for you to control, starts to show greater signs of independence and free will. It is the only time in the game they are able to tell other characters their full name without the player even doing anything, and at the very end you no longer control frisk at all. Flowey makes this clear as he tells the player/chara to let frisk live their life as well as normal resetting being impossible. It is unknown how this happens though the likelihood is that frisk gained enough determination when fighting asriel to fully sustain themselves without the need for the players existence. The player is no longer a part of frisk and is only capable of truly continuing the game and controling frisk by performing the true reset.

In genocide, the player is going out of their way to murder every monster in the underground. Chara is influenced by the players actions and learns from everything they do (likely due to lacking their own soul allowing them to have morals on their own). Through the players guidance, they have their minds corrupted believing their main purpose is to kill and get stronger. Chara feeds on the players determination throughout the genocide route, eventually breaking free from the player and gaining control of the game much like the player at the end of pacifist. Both at this point perform the true reset.

Monsters and humans

Monsters are beings who are made out of magic as opposed to water meaning their bodies lack the physical properties a human does [2] and are weaker as a result, with almost all of them dying to even a pacifist route frisk in a few hits with only few exceptions. This also makes their bodies physically attuned to their souls. Due to this monsters who dont want to fight will have their statistics lowered making them more vulnerable to damage. In addition, murderous intentions will deal more damage as well as a being with a powerful soul likely due to that soul power being exerted onto them physically due to their bodies and souls being attuned [3] . However, this link also allows a monster to absorb a humans soul, transforming them into a being with massive amounts power capable of wiping out an entire village of humans due to them utilising the full power of a human soul.

Ghosts are a type of monster who posess various items and objects in hopes to fuse with it completely. This in turn, fuses their soul with said object allowing them to be properly damaged. Without it they are simply a non corporeal type soul which can only be harmed (though not badly damaged) by magical attacks.

Humans mostly rely on their own physical power to fight, not using the full extent of their soul power and unlike monsters, dont utilise magic.

Face changes

When you reset you go back to the beginning. If you quit after normal reset you can quit and go back to the save point in the original timeline you reset from. The reset just takes you back to that point. the name is not changed. The true reset must change the past even before the reset?

  2. "While monsters are mostly made of magic, human beings are mostly made of water. Humans, with their physical forms, are far stronger than us"-Snowdin Library
  3. Because they are made of magic, monsters bodies are attuned to their soul. If a monster doesn’t want to fight, its defences will weaken. And the creuller the intentions of our enemies, the more their attacks will hurt us.
