Premise[]
In the Ruin DLC, the Mimic crushes a steel bar like a soda can using its grip. I'll be calculating the force needed to be exerted.
Calc[]
According to the wiki, the Mimic stands at around 7 feet tall, or 2.134 meters. I'll use its body as a reference to measure the dimensions of the steel bar it crushes.
Body[]
2.134m/746px = 0.002860589812m/px
Arm: 481px = 1.38m
Arm[]
1.38m/707px = 0.001951909477m/px
Its fingers seem to wrap around the bar, ending just at the middle joint. As such, I'll only measure the length of that specific part.
Finger: 94px = 0.18m
Bar[]
Comparing the length and height using its finger.
0.18/194 = 0.00092783505m/px
196px = 0.182m
138px = 0.13m
This article states that the thickness of flat bars range from around 25mm to 33mm in thickness. Given that it looks pretty thick, let's assume it's at 33m, or 0.033m.
Plugging the values into a calculator gives us a surface area of 0.06604m^2.
Crush[]
Mild steel has an approximate compressive strength of 250MPa. As the gate itself has visible corrosion/rust, its yield strength would have been affected/reduced. This study reports that yield strength of mild steel is reduced by 37.5% due to corrosion, giving us 92.5MPa.
92.5*10^6 * 0.06604 = 6108700 Newtons or 686.65 Tons of Force
If we're to just use 250MPa, then:
250*10^6 * 0.06604 = 16510000 Newtons or 1855.8 Tons of Force
Final Tally[]
Low-End: 686.65 Tons of Force (Class K) (ACCEPTED)
High-End: 1855.8 Tons of Force (Class M)
Small Update[]
This part is for solving for the work needed.
219px = 0.2m
0.2m/144px = 0.001388888889m/px
64px = 0.08
Subtracting the final and initial length of the bar gives us 0.12m, which will be the displacement.
Work = 733044 J (9-B)
