The Arabian Nights reality’s existence and fundamental principles are based on the emotions conveyed through its stories, which the World Rings can bend to their whim.
Each of the World Rings embody the emotions that make up the stories of the Arabian Nights reality, that being Prayers/hope, sadness, rage, hatred, joy, pleasure, and wishes/desires. The World Rings are the source for Darkspine Sonic and Alf Layla wa-Layla’s powers, and the two are capable of manipulating the aspects of the World Rings to their whim, allowing them rule over reality.
It’s reinforced that the World Rings embody the emotions of the Arabian Nights multiple times throughout Sonic and the Secret Rings, and that they govern reality.
