Summary[]

As hard as one may not imagine, this Ip Man is actually challenging Wall Level during his fight with Cheung Tin Chi in the movie Ip Man 3.

Source

Calculation[]

Cheung Tin Chi, Ip Man's major rival/friend of Ip Man 3, carved a stone pillar with his bo staff.

Ip Man vs Cheung Tin Chi - carve stone pillar

Because of the view angle problem, the left side carved is actually farther from the camera than the right side carved although the depth carved by the bo staff should roughly be the same.

As background information, a rokushakubō (六尺棒) stands 1.82 m and is typically 3 cm thick.

It is reasonable to think that Cheung Tin Chi just carved a half cylindrical volume of stone away with his striking strength with a bo staff. And Ip Man matched Mr Cheung's strength, speed and durability during the fights with bo staffs, with twin knives, and with bare hands.

Now, the height of the left side of the carved cylinder = 53.85164807 px

the height of the right side of the carved cylinder = 69.7782201 px

the height of the middle of the carved cylinder = 61.81493408 px

Length of the carved cylinder = 799.6381994 px = 0.388080103 m

By angular size we can find out the "depth" between the left side and the right side as
2atan(tan(70/2)*(left side height in pixels/right side height in pixels))
= 0.990867615 rad
Depth = 0.027757821 m

Displacement = (0.388080103^2 + 0.027757821^2)^0.5 m = 0.38907154 m
Radius of the cylinder = 0.015 m
Volume of the half cylinder = pi() * (0.015 m)^2 / 2 * 0.38907154 m
= 137.5092327 cc

Low End: Assume cement composition of the pillar
Energy for violent fragmentation = 69 J/cc
Energy applied = 69 J/cc * 137.5092327 cc
= 9488.137055 J (Street Level+)

High End: Assume granite composition of the pillar
Energy for violent fragmentation = compressive strength of granite = 200 J/cc
Energy applied = 200 J/cc * 137.5092327 cc
= 27501.84654 J (Wall Level)

High End yields Wall Level IM... Still cannot defeat this IM though.

Tally[]

Low End: 9488.137055 J (Street Level+)

High End: 27501.84654 J (Wall Level)

KLOL506's version[]

V. frag energy of granite is 103.42 J/cc.

137.5092327*103.42= 14,221.204845834 J, Street level+

Me personally, I'd go for the granite end, since the destroyed item seems to have a grainy appearance.
