Assorted feats for Ip Man (Film Series). Trailer included.
Useful in determining his key phases for the original Ip Man Trilogy (Ip Man 1-3) and for Ip Man 4.
Ip Man - Ip Man hyakuretsuken
Solid Peak Human perception at 0.1 s per punch eyeballing.
Personally I think Ip Man's punching speed should not be slower than some punching speed of Hatton
Average punching speed of Hatton = 25 mph = 11.176 m/s (Peak human)
Peak punching speed of Hatton = 32 mph = 14.30528 m/s (Superhuman)
(At least Peak Human, possibly Superhuman attacking and reaction speed)
Ip Man 2 - Ip Man breaks some chair
Except... what Ip Man did is actually breaking a chair as if chair legs fall off from the seat.
The vid shown is a stool with 4 legs. Likely made of just white pine.
Cutting a seat leg from a chair at plane cross-section yields 223.3899 joules (Athletic Human level+).
Cutting 4 legs require 223.3899 J * 4 = 893.5596 J (Street level).
Assuming there are actually 12 joints to destroy. That makes it 223.3899 J * 12 = 2680.6788 J (Street level).
Ip Man 3 - Ip Man cracks a thin wall
Wall busting huh? Except it is a thin wall of likely wood fibre boards. And with a width slightly wider than the shoulder width of a grown man.
Low end: It would only need to pulverise a line portion from that wood board to break it.
Thickness of a wood fibre board can be up to... 6 mm or 0.6 cm.
A cut opening... I use 0.225 cm for average saw thickness.
Volume required to break = 7.425 cc
Plugging a violent fragmentation of "general wood" of 18.34 J/cc gives a feat yield of 136.1745 J (Athletic Human level)
I mean... kicking a person across 6 meters takes up ~6866 joules. (Street level)
High end: Assume the contact "length" of the butt occupies 15 cm.
Volume of wood such destroyed = 495 cc
Plugging a violent fragmentation of "general wood" of 18.34 J/cc gives a feat yield of 9,078.30 J (Street level+)
Slightly less hard than End-of-Ip-Man-3 Cheung Tin Chi of 9488.137055 J. Neat.
Ip Man 3 - Cheung Tin Chi cracks a table
The table involved should actually look like a small table at a diameter of 75 cm with a glass surface on top of it with a diameter of 85 cm supported by 4 legs.
Again, assume glass thickness of 0.635 cm, we have a volume of glass of pi * (85/2)^2 * 0.635 = 3603.308599 cc
Glass violent fragmentation energy of 1 J/cc means destruction value of that glass surface = 3603.308599 J
The table cracked in half and the 4 legs fell apart.
Cutting 4 legs require 223.3899 J * 4 = 893.5596 J.
For the 75 cm diameter table cracking, volume to crack = 75 * 3 * 0.225 = 50.625 cc
Energy required to split this table in half = 50.625 * 39.2312 = 1986.0795 J
Total energy applied = (3603.308599 + 1986.0795 + 893.5596) J = 6482.947699 J (Street level)
Ip Man 4 - Karate Champion imitates Hercule Satan
Note: this scales to characters/key phases in Ip Man 4 only.
In the Ip Man 4 trailer, Karate Champion (played by Mark Strange) chopped 3 concrete slabs in 1 go.
The width of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Prox. Phalanges are 16.46 mm, 16.37 mm, 14.87 mm, and 14.33 mm respectively. Screw it my fist is eyeballed to be 7 cm "tall".
The fist in the video is around 52.39274759 px though.
The thickness of the 3 slab layers = 125 px = 16.70078475 cm
Now the slab looks like a 2:1 ratio in length vs width.
Length of slab = 441 px = 58.9203686 cm; width of slab = 58.9203686 cm / 2 = 29.4601843 cm
Assume a 0.225 cm crack again,
Volume destroyed = 110.7018443 cc
|State of destruction||Value of destruction (J/cc)||Yield (J) (tier)|
|Concrete - violent fragmentation||20||2214.036885 (Street)|
|Concrete - pulverisation||40||4428.07377 (Street)|
|Reinforced concrete - violent fragmentation||61||6752.8125 (Street)|
|Reinforced concrete - pulverisation||102||11291.58811 (Street+)|
Is the concrete pulverisation level good enough?
Master Z - Cheung Tin Chi vs Owen Davidson Round 2
A man's foot length was 26.3 cm with a standard deviation of 1.2 cm. I just pick 26.3 cm. The foot is eyeballed to be ~98.79271228 px.
Glass panel height = 576 px = 153.3392459cm
The panel looks like 7 squares with 2 quarter circles forming a rough 3 x 3 big square.
Glass portion height = 192 px = 51.11308196 cm
Area per square = 2612.547148 cm^2
7 glass square area = 18287.83003 cm^2
2 glass quarter circle area = pi * (51.11308196 cm)^2 / 2 = 4103.779463 cm^2
Glass panel total area = 22391.6095 cm^2
Glass thickness estimated = 1/4 inch = 0.635 cm
Glass volume = 14218.67203 cc
Violent fragmentation at 1 J/cc = 14218.67203 J (Street level+)
Still short of being Wall level.
... wait. That flying kick smashed one glass wall AND sent Owen flying, smashing two glass portions of two doors.
From picture 2.1, Dave's head-to-ankle height = 198 cm ~= 1322.74226 px in the portrait. His head-to-knee height is 910.7422603 px = 136.3281215 cm
In picture 2.2, Dave's head-to-knee height is 136.3281215 cm or 383 px.
Now, the glass destroyed consists of one rectangular panel of 453 px (161.2444883 cm) by 174 px (61.93496902 cm), plus a semi-ellipse of semi-major axis of 64 px (22.78067826 cm) by semi-minor axis of 58 px (20.64498967 cm).
Area of large rectangle = 9986.672389 cm^2
Area of semi-ellipse = 738.7562999 cm^2
Assume thickness of glass of 0.635 cm (1/4 inch),
Volume of rectangular glass = 6341.536967 cc
Volume of semi-ellipse glass = 469.1102505 cc
Volume of whole glass of 1 door = 6810.647218 cc
Volume of whole glass of 2 doors = 13621.29444 cc
Violent fragmentation means destruction yield = 13621.29444 J (Street level+)
So we have Master Z Cheung Tin Chi at "at least 14218.67203 J (Street level+), possibly (14218.67203 J + 13621.29444 J) = 27839.96647 J (Wall Level)". Fair enough?
