Rise of the Guardians - Pitch Black Shrouded a City in Shadow[]

While the concept of shadow manipulation can be weird, that boogyman did create a massive storm cloud that covered a city. That cloud creation feat can be calculated. Just... How large is the cloud?

We know that Pitch Black (in Boogyman form) was fighting Nicholas St. North and other Guardians in Nic's home city. Nicolas was said to "reside in North Pole". We also know he was based on Santa Claus, who is actually believed to live in Santa Claus village in Rovaniemi in Finland, which is actually lying in the outskirts of the Arctic region. So we can assume what Pitch was doing was actually creating a large storm in the Rovaniemi municipality.

Now for the calculation part.

Rovaniemi covers an area of 8,016.75 km2 or 8,016,750,000 m2.

Since that is a storm cloud, we assume that cloud be cumulonimbus. Because of the geographic locations, I am suggesting three thicknesses: 2000 m, 8000 m, and 11800 m.

I am also suggesting different cases where it is treated as a storm at 1.003 kg/m^3 (for CAPE method) or cloud at densities of 0.001 to 0.003 kg/m^3 (for condensation method).

CAPE storm density for strong instability clouds = 4000 J/kg

Latent heat of vaporisation = 2264705.7 J/kg

I am most comfortable with the Case 1-3 yield, since it covers most accurately the geographical situation where the feat took place.

I am also fine with 1-2. Which Spino concurred so this can be accepted.


The Croods - Grug Crood kicked some log[]

From here, Thunk height is 686.9218418 px tall. His head height is 124 px or 0.343881917 m.

In this shot, Thunk's head height is 45 px (still 0.343881917 m) while the wooden log diameter by length is 55 px by 165 px or 0.420300121 m diameter (0.210150061 m radius) by 1.260900363 m length.

From here, the 1.260900363 m wood log is viewed as 500 px. While the wood log is hollow on the inside, the exterior thickness is 11.3137085 px or 0.028530918 m.

Making the volume of the material of the wooden log pi * (0.210150061^2 - (0.210150061 - 0.028530918)^2) * 1.260900363 m = 0.044276847 m^3

Oak tree wood has a density of 0.6 to 0.9 km/m^3, taking the middle line makes the density 0.75 kg/m^3

Mass of the hollow wood log = 0.044276847 m^3 * 0.75 kg/m^3 = 0.033207635 kg
(am I reading this right this is lighter than an inflated international soccer ball)

Now as the screen width is 1280 px (and the log was lying flat parallel with the screen width), by angsizing
(Distance from point of view to object = object size * panel height in pixels/[object height in pixels*2*tan(70deg/2)])
the log should be 1.260900363 * 1280 / [500*2*tan(70deg/2)] = 2.304962996 m from the camera. This is important later.

In 0.393 s later the log flew to be viewed as only 77 px instead of 500 px. The log was now

= 1.260900363 * 1280 / [77*2*tan(70deg/2)] = 14.96729218 m away from the camera.

Displacement = 12.66232919 m

Speed = 12.66232919 m / 0.393 s = 32.21966714 m/s (Superhuman)

Turns out this "AP feat" is actually a speed feat. Superhuman - close to baseline subsonic combat speed.

The Croods: A New Age - Grug Crood was hit with a small boulder[]

Grug was hit with a small boulder. The KE of Ugga was transferred into the rock then into Grug and Grug fell. The KE then transferred back to the rock and it cracked. And Grug stood right back up.

From here, the 0.343882 m Thunk face is viewed as 55 px. While the boulder semi-major axis and semi-minor axis is viewed as 152 px (0.950365 m) and 134 px (0.837821 m) respectively.

Volume = 4/3 * pi * (0.837821 m)^2 * 0.950365 m = 0.349295 m^3

Density of granite = 2750 kg/m^3

Mass of small boulder = 960.5599 kg.

Go back to the feat. The boulder landed on Grug's head and he fell on the floor with a 90 degree flip within 0.142 s.

Go back to Log size.png. Grug stands 264.2832992 px or 2.019605503 m.

Quarter circumference (the arc) = 2.019605503 m * pi / 2 = 3.172389 m

Falling speed = 3.172389 m / 0.142 s = 22.34077 m/s (Superhuman)

KE = 0.5 * (22.34077 m/s)^2 * 960.5599 kg = 239712.5 J (Wall)
