Rage can catch in fire mid-air while doing headbutts. Let's calc this.
Assumptions[]
- Olathe in the US, so I'll assume average US male weight for Rage, which is 88.3 kg.
- According to this, it'd be Mach 5 to catch in fire while moving.
The Calculation[]
A simple KE calc.
Now, I'll try to calc two different values: Using Mach 2 as an absolute lowball, since it is pretty much a given he can move at Supersonic speeds, and Mach 5, which is the most likely since he can catch in fire due to friction.
- MACH 2: 88.3 x 687.2² : 2 = 20.837.431,35 joules. I may be mistaken, but that is Small Building level. Either that or a really high-level Wall level, which would still render high-tiers such as Rando in a higher tier.
- MACH 5: 88.3 x 1718² : 2 = 130.309.784,6 joules. Small Building level.
Explanation[]
"He catches in fire mid-air out of Fire Manipulation"
No. Unlike all fire manipulators in Olathe, Rage never showed the capacity to directly control fire. If you do analyse his moveset, you'll notice that all Fire-damage dealing moves are based around him doing some form of headbutt while his head catches in fire mid-air. He never once did anything like throwing fireballs, spontaneously igniting his arms or legs in fire or even emitted flames from his body. To assume he's a fire manipulator, one'd need to assume he only uses fire manipulation for a single type of move, while he is in mid-air.
"But in LISA there are several fire manipulators"
So what? Just because most people control fire, it doesn't mean that all of them must do so. Also, just because one manipulates fire, doesn't necessarily means that he can't catch in fire out of friction.
Also, LISA characters have shown to be able to dodge explosions from several sources, something that further supports this speed.
"That'd be inconsistent"
Nah, not really. Ridiculously weak enemies have enough health to survive Dismal Island's fall, can dodge bullets, survive hails of gunfire, explosions, amidst others. Gary the Hot Soup, who can be easily defeated by anyone in Brad's group with one or two normal attacks, managed to stop a truck with a single blow. Not only that, but if we applied the KE formula to them while using Supersonic values, they'd also be of SB level, if not dangerously close to it.
Mr. Bambu's version[]
KE calc is wrong. First off, it uses full-body-mass rather than, say, the mass of one's head. Second off, KE requires you to divide the mass by two. Finally, the speed of sound under normal conditions is 343 m/s. Keep in mind that 340 m/s (used below) really is only a hair's breadth away from this, but the standard answer you'll find is 343 m/s at 20 C.
The typical mass of a human head is 5 kg.
So our KE looks like this:
(5/2) * 1715^2 = 7353062.5 Joules, Wall level.
EDIT: Adem_Warlock69 has showed me a video where he does launch his full body. So the point above about the head is moot.
I'll use the cited weight of 88.3 kg.
(88.3 * 0.5) * 1715^2 = 1.299e8 Joules, Small Building level.
