Calculation[]
In Super Street Fighter IV, Juri Han uses her Feng Shui Engine to blow up a building from the inside. I’ll be calculating the yield of this explosion.
The height of a car ranges from 1.5 meters to 1.8 meters, so I’ll lowball and assume a low-end of 1.5 meters, a mid-end of the average of these two values, 1.65 meters, and a high-end of 1.8 meters.
Low-End:
Car Height = 1.5 meters = 7 px
1.5 / 7 = 0.2143 meters per px
Horizontal Building Length = 624 px = 133.7232 meters
Vertical Building Length = 302 px = 64.7186 meters
Actual Building Length = sqrt(133.7232^2 + 64.7186^2) = 148.561 meters
Radius = 148.561 / 2 = 74.2805 meters
Ground level explosion formula is W = R^3*((27136*P + 8649)^(1/2)/13568 - 93/13568)^2, R is in Meters, W is in Tons, and the standard overpressure is 20 psi or 1.37895 bars.
W = 74.2805^3*((27136*1.37895 + 8649)^(1/2)/13568 - 93/13568)^2
Mid-End:
Car Height = 1.65 meters = 7 px
1.65 / 7 = 0.2357 meters per px
Horizontal Building Length = 624 px = 147.0768 meters
Vertical Building Length = 302 px = 71.1814 meters
Actual Building Length = sqrt(147.0768^2 + 83.6735^2) = 169.212 meters
Radius = 169.212 / 2 = 84.606 meters
Ground level explosion formula is W = R^3*((27136*P + 8649)^(1/2)/13568 - 93/13568)^2, R is in Meters, W is in Tons, and the standard overpressure is 20 psi or 1.37895 bars.
W = 84.606^3*((27136*1.37895 + 8649)^(1/2)/13568 - 93/13568)^2
High-End:
Car Height = 1.8 meters = 7 px
1.65 / 7 = 0.2571 meters per px
Horizontal Building Length = 624 px = 160.4304 meters
Vertical Building Length = 302 px = 77.6442 meters
Actual Building Length = sqrt(160.4304^2 + 77.6442^2) = 178.232 meters
Radius = 178.232 / 2 = 89.116 meters
Ground level explosion formula is W = R^3*((27136*P + 8649)^(1/2)/13568 - 93/13568)^2, R is in Meters, W is in Tons, and the standard overpressure is 20 psi or 1.37895 bars.
W = 89.116^3*((27136*1.37895 + 8649)^(1/2)/13568 - 93/13568)^2
Final Result:
Juri Han Blows up a Building:
Low-End = 32.94 tons; City Block level (8-B)
Mid-End = 48.67 tons; City Block level (8-B)
High-End = 56.88 tons; City Block level+ (8-B)
Note: The building was blown up completely from the inside. As such, both the inside and outside were fully affected, so we don’t need to reduce the value by factoring in hollowness.
