Jonathan Gif End

Context[]

In Part 1, at the end, Jonathan and Dio are on a ship, that due to circumstances, is about to explode, really violently, Jonathan and Dio, the former of which is dead already due to his wounds, get caught in the explosion and seemingly die, but it is eventually revealed in Part 3 that Jonathan's corpse and Dio survived the blast and managed to live.

JoJo Ship Durability Gif

As seen here, and in the scaling image below, they get hit with the blast explicitly.

I'd also like to point out that Araki has gone on record and explained that JoJo was always planned to have at least 3 parts, with Dio being in Part 1, and then coming back in Part 3 as the final villain, aka, Dio was always planned to have survived this, even back then, it wasn't pulled out of Araki's ass, Jonathan (kinda) and Dio were shown being hit by this blast and were always planned to survive and come back in (at the time) modern day to end JoJo. Meaning no Dio surving wasn't some asspull, he was meant to survive and come back even as this chapter and they getting hit by the blast was being drawn.

"Q: Very good. Let's start with JoJo, then. I think it's safe to say that this series is the only "generational saga" to come from Japan. Was that your plan from the start?

"A: Only partially. Let me explain: I originally only planned for the series to be three parts, ending with the final confrontation against Dio Brando. This meant that I was already aware of the fact that I would need to make three different JoJo's, who would–in some sort of way–all be descendants of each other, and that their lives would be linked by a common curse. Anyway, I have to say that editors at the time weren't keen on the idea of switching protagonists, especially for a popular series. If readers took the news badly, it could've ended in a total disaster. But I kept on insisting that we do it this way, mostly because I didn't want to get bogged down drawing the same character for years, and because I wanted to progress the story through specific historical periods without resorting to gimmicks like time travel. Fortunately, I was right, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been continuing its success since 1987... Next year, we'll be celebrating our 10th anniversary!"

As seen here, from the very start, Araki planned three parts, three JoJo's and for it to end with Dio, even though he drew Dio getting caught in a giant fuck off explosion with panels lingering on the fact he got smacked with that blast. (Also for what it's worth, the Jorge novel has Dio tank this blast outright, and then spends the next two days fucking with Erina and giving him PTSD and stockholm syndrome while fucking with the coffin, it might be noncanon but eh, at least some media explicitly shows the aftermath of him getting hit and surviving).

Ship Scaling[]

Ok so. Scaling, trust me I tried, but while we got a fuck ton of shots in the manga of the ship, we don't actually get anything to scale off, so unfortunately, I resorted to the anime just to help.

JoJo Erina Boat

Erina 180px = 164cm. (Might actually be a low-end, I did some pixel scaling between her and Jonathan and got her to be like 170cm, but I'll use average british female height for this any how).

1187px = 1081.4888888888888816cm (Ship deck).

Explosion Scaling[]

Jojo ship feat 1

(Click see full size image if it's to hard to see, the actual image is fucking huge).

A low and high-end. Low end is just the width of the explosion as to what we can see of it. The high-end I just did a circle and lined the edges up with it to get the hypothetical off screen amount too.

73px (Ship Deck) = 1081.4888888888888816cm.

1671px (Green Line/Explosion Diameter/High End) = 24755.72511415525098655878234398782336cm. (Radius: 12377.86255707762549327939117199391168cm/123.7786255707762549327939117199391168m).

1289px (Blue Line/Explosion Diameter/Low End = 19096.427092846270836796194824961948cm. (Radius: 9548.213546423135418398097412480974cm/95.48213546423135418398097412480974m).

95.48213546423135418398097412480974^3*((27136*1.37895+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2 = 69.960335846024549507651227568374598017672730790938517120964917741 tons of TNT (Low-end).

123.7786255707762549327939117199391168^3*((27136*1.37895+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2 = 152.413165550967780043805543234183749832315851952431722761830484027 tons of TNT (High-end).

Distance[]

The explosion comes from Wang stopping the screw shaft and having a bunch of steam built up, resulting in a chain of explosions up to the huge fuck off explosion. Luckily, Jonathan and friends are in the boiler room and the very same place the explosion starts from, but how far away? Well Araki is a hack and it can vary here and there but I figured this panel would be a good way to get it done.

JoJo Steam Calc 1

23px (Shaft) = 37.632380952380952596cm. 105px = 171.8cm. (Average Chinese height). And yes, surprisingly, Wang Chan actually isn't that short, he just crouches a lot but when standing straight up, he's actually almost as tall as Speedwagon, who's a bit above average, so this should actually be ok.

Panel height 348px.

Object in pixels = 23px (Shaft Diameter).

Screen height = 348px

Object size = 37.632380952380952596.

37.632380952380952596*348/(23*2*tan(70deg/2)) = 406.589657097cm.

406.589657097 = 4.06589657097m.

That would be, just about, the distance Jonathan was from the epicenter of the blast, give or take (He ends up around the boxes we see in that panel, he lays up against one as he dies).

Ok so cool.

Final Part[]

I tried 3 different sites for Jonathan's surface, most common was 2.38m2 but it's give or take, could be slightly higher or lower, but not by much, Jonathan is a big boy though who's limbs are likened to tree stumps and shit tho so like.

So 1.19m2 for half.

Ok now.

(69.960335846024549507651227568374598017672730790938517120964917741 tons of TNT) / (4π((4.06589657097)^2)) = 0.33676687588 Tons of TNT.

0.33676687588 x 1.19m2 (Jonathan's surface area/2) = 0.4007525822972 tons of TNT (8-C).

(123.7786255707762549327939117199391168 tons of TNT) / (4π((4.06589657097)^2)) = 0.59583105955 tons of TNT.

0.59583105955 x 1.19m2 (Jonathan's surface area/2) = 0.7090389608645 tons of TNT. (8-C).

End results 8-C overall though it might be a tad bit high but I did do with what I had due to lacking an official Wang Chan height, Araki being a hack and fuck all to scale the actual ship off in the manga itself (As said, we get like two dozen shots of the ship, but absolutely nothing to scale it or any piece of it off). Should be around these numbers more or less.
