As many of you probably either know or could guess, I'm a fan of the Cthulhu Mythos. I've also been staunchly against using the "Expanded Mythos" and things written after Lovecraft's lifetime to scale and affect things within canon. In this blog, I'll show you why through a rather amusing example.

Below is a profile for "EU Cthulhu". I will not use literally everything that has ever had Cthulhu or Mythos influence, but instead only things that actually take place within the Mythos itself (more recent stories, video games, the Call of Cthulhu RPG, etc.). This is all just stuff I have immediate access to, and is very far from complete. If you have any other notable feats, feel free to post them in the comments. This is all just for fun.

Without further ado, I give you... Great Cthulhu.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Spells: Great Cthulhu is a master of all things arcane, and in his impossibly long lifespan has learned hundreds upon hundreds of spells, as varied as they are dangerous.
  • Avatars: Alongside his most commonly known form, smaller aspects of Cthulhu's self are often able to manifest as their own beings. Below are some of those known to exist.

B'Moth - This entity appears as a luminescent fog of blue, green, or yellow. B'Moth is worshiped by primitive and superstitious tribes, who believe the being will destroy civilization and return the world to the way it once was. While the entity itself has no tangible form and cannot affect the physical world directly, it has extremely powerful mental abilities which it manifests through dreams and telepathy. While B'Moth may appear anywhere, areas near large bodies of water are more susceptible. Upon manifesting, the entity may both read and control the minds of those around it. Those under the influence of B'Moth may not even realize it, experiencing blackouts during times when the entity is in control or remembering such times as vague dreams.

Chorazin - The Chorazin is not its own entity, but instead the id-like will of dreaming Cthulhu. When seen, it appears as a distorted, dreamy image of Cthulhu shot through with flickering lines, static snow, and sparks of bright green light. It most often appears in dreams, looking exactly like Cthulhu, and rarely within the waking world. However, the Chorazin may manifest through computers or televisions, or in areas of especially high concentrations of psychic or electrical energy. While the being has no cult or worshippers, anyone who dreams of Cthulhu has made contact with the Chorazin. If manifested in the waking world, it will immediately begin feeding on the minds of everything nearby. Anyone within its range of influence may suffer severe headaches, fly into senseless fits of rage, develop crippling phobias, and have their very will power consumed. If the Chorazin feeds enough, it can create a physical avatar of Cthulhu.

Father-of-All-Sharks - This massive entity is believed to be the Leviathan of Biblical legends, as well as another one of Cthulhu's many forms. Unlike Cthulhu's other manifestations, the Father-of-All-Sharks has few supernatural properties, and is a being of pure muscle and rage. The entity has been known to cause massive tidal waves, destroying coastal cities and appearing when communities of deep ones are threatened.
