Verse: Dragon Ball Super

The purpose of this blog is to mainly go over the final episodes of the Battle of Gods arc, to provide a detailed explanation of how Super Saiyan God vs God of Destruction paved the way for Dragon Ball to reach Universe level of power.

Universe Destroying Punches

In episode 12, when Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus were punching each other, the shock waves generated from their clash were so powerful that they were destroying everything in the universe. Several distant planets are stars were shown to be disintegrated by the destructive force of the shock waves and Elder Kai estimated that in just 3 clashes, the entire universe will turn into a vacuum of nothingness.

But Earth was not destroyed, the shock waves were growing stronger the further they went, so it doesn't count.

While the statement comes from Elder Kai and is somewhat true, it is heavily taken out of context and misinterpreted. To Elder Kai, the shock waves only appeared to be getting stronger the further they went because of a reason which was revealed later in the episode.

UDP4

Goku knew about the collateral damage the shock waves were causing. That's why he was trying to perfect the nullification technique in the first 2 tries. Since it was not perfected during the first 2 punches, the residual energy which was not nullified in the clash, resulted in the generation of the shock waves. Still, thanks to this incomplete cushioning effect, Goku at least managed to reduce the intensity of these shock waves near him and protect the Earth and Solar System. But as the shock waves went further away, Goku's cushioning effect on them also decreased. And thus, it appeared to Elder Kai that the waves were growing stronger the further they went.

But it was mostly Beerus' power which caused the shock waves. Goku doesn't scale.

Absolutely incorrect. Refer the scan posted above again. Goku scales because he matched Beerus' punch with the exact same force and angle to cancel out the effect. At that instance, both Goku and Beerus were using equal amounts of power.

The First Super Dense Energy Ball

At the start of episode 13, the narrator stated that the clash between SSG Goku's Kamehameha and Beerus' Cataclysmic Orb, was about to destroy the entire Universe.

But instead, their attacks merged together and formed a super dense energy ball. This super dense energy ball also had enough power to destroy entire Universe 7. Since this energy was in the Earth's stratosphere and Earth itself is located near the edge of the universe, the energy required for the ball to destroy the entire universe would be around 27 times more than baseline 3-A.

It's also very essential to note that right before the energy was about to get out of hand, Beerus effortlessly nullified all of it using his Energy Nullification ability.

At the end of the episode, the narrator again confirms that they were indeed hitting each other with the power capable of destroying the universe.

Debunking Some Arguments

But it was mostly Beerus' power which contributed to the energy ball. Goku doesn't scale.

If Beerus' contribution was more, or in other words if Beerus was putting more energy into his blast, his blast would have pushed and overpowered Goku's Kamehameha. At the moment of formation of the energy ball, the point of contact of the two beams was exactly at the mid-point of Goku and Beerus. Neither characters were pushing each other back. Hence, it is easily understood that both of their attacks had equal power at that moment and they had equal contribution in creating this energy ball.

The statements use the word "world". "World" could also mean planet or solar system.

"World" could also mean a society or a multiverse, depending upon the context and speaker. In this context, where the events leading up to the fight and the fight itself has been continuously portrayed as a threat to the whole universe, it becomes quite clear that "world" here refers to the "universe". To reinforce this point, in this very episode, the narrator reiterates the same statements twice, and both times he uses the word "universe".

Goku's Punch

After surpassing Super Saiyan God in his Super Saiyan form, Goku uses Kamehameha and tries to punch Beerus only for Beerus to effortlessly nullify both, like he did to the first dense energy ball. However, Goku later put more power into his punch, which even Beerus could not nullify right away. Even Beerus was surprised by this power and was pushed back from the sea level up to the stratosphere, until he was finally able to nullify the energy of Goku's punch completely.

While Beerus was able to effortlessly nullify the energy of the first dense energy ball immediately in an instant, it took a lot of time and effort for him to completely nullify the energy of Goku's punch while he also got pushed back. This clearly proves that the magnitude of energy behind Goku's punch was much more than the first dense energy ball. It also confirms the narrator's statement about each of them hitting each other with universal attack potency.

The Second Super Dense Energy Ball

Before the final beam struggle of the fight which was supposed to end it, Super Saiyan Goku told Beerus that he will unleash all of his power. As soon as he powered up, Beerus confessed that now Goku's attack won't be that easy to nullify. This is the same Beerus who nullified the first super dense energy ball effortlessly, which clearly shows how powerful Goku became.

2SDEB1

Just like the first super dense energy ball, the second super dense energy ball was also formed as a result of the clash between Super Saiyan Goku's Kamehameha and Beerus' Cataclysmic Orb. From the two constituent attacks to the procedure of creation of the energy ball, everything was identical to the first time. The only difference here is the size of this energy ball compared to the previous one, which shows the sheer magnitude of energy contained in it. The second ball rightfully dwarfs the first one in comparison, as it is composed of much stronger attacks this time. Even Goku, who witnessed the first one, is surprised by it.

2SDEB2

Limit Breaker Goku

Beerus added more power into the second super dense energy ball and pushed it towards Goku. After Goku was pushed to his extreme by it, Beerus asks if he is at his limit yet. This triggers Goku and even though he loses his Super Saiyan form, he breaks his limits once again and punches the ball with one almighty swing of his right fist, putting out every bit of his energy in order to cancel it.

Having broken his limits even when tested by Beerus, he smilingly answers with these words, solidifying the fact that he indeed is the true Limit Breaker:

Note that Goku was constantly getting stronger during the course of the fight and after the battle ended, it was confirmed by both, the narrator and Vegeta, that Goku had surpassed the level of Super Saiyan God.

Debunking Some Arguments

Most of these are statements. There is no feat. The universe was never destroyed. It's hyperbole.

Characters don't always have to destroy a universe to be considered at that level. The statements come from the most reliable and knowledgeable sources who are there just to give exposition about the fight. Even the narrator, the closest being to word of god, confirmed these statements. There is no single throwaway statement in this case, but these statements are reiterated many times which clearly shows the intention of the writer.

Moreover, these statements are supplemented by narrative and visual aids. The precedent of this fight was set in the early episodes of the arc through repeated statements which gave a hint about Beerus' power. The fight also showcases destruction of large magnitude throughout the universe and whenever the energy disperses, it envelops the entire universe in its wake, solidifying the range and scale of these attacks. The visual depiction of the fight is consistent with the statements.

Conclusion

Base Goku (after breaking his limits) = Second Super Dense Energy > 2x Goku's Kamehameha (which formed it) > Goku's Punch (which proved difficult to nullify) > First Super Dense Energy ≈ 27x baseline Universe level

Therefore, end of BoG arc Base Goku is around 54x baseline Universe level.
