  • Hello.

I have long enjoyed the comicbooks of the very imaginative and entertaining, but sadly very underappreciated, Fred Perry, and would like if this wiki could help to promote his stories, so he might get some of the attention that he deserves.

I would appreciate if others would be willing to help out with starting to research his works, primarily Gold Digger and Time Lincoln, for feats to be calculated. You can likely find most of them in the usual archive.

I mean, his friend Ben Dunn seems to already have had his Warrior Nun Areala concept adapted by Netflix, so at least there is a chance that somebody will pick up Time Lincoln if they hear of it.

    The Gold Digger wiki:

    https://gold-digger-source.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_Digger_Source_Wiki

It does not seem to be very updated though.

(I know that it was unprofessional of me to place a link to here in the official highlights thread. I just thought that I might be allowed to be biased just this once.)

    • Wouldn't it have simply be better to ask some people who are big on comics to research this on their walls instead of putting this in an official highlight thread?

        Loading editor
    • Well, I do not know who that would be appropriate to ask, and I haven't done this sort of thing before. It is likely a one-time occurrence, as I take my responsibilities here very seriously.

It's probably fine all things considered, I'd just say don't expect people to take the bite and join on. People tend to stick to their verses that they know, and I'm willing to bet they wouldn't personally drive for the wiki to represent x y or z anymore than their own personal tastes.

TL;DR Ant, you're probably on your own though I'd be willing to bet that if you dropped calc requests, myself or any of the other active to an extent CGMs would be able to assist.

You can't just advertize your own character creation thread using the OFFICIAL HIGHLIGHT thread

Highlight is ment for threads that are important for the comunity a a whle, not for a staff's personal interests

that's extremelly bad practice and borderline abuse of power

    • @Mr. Bambu

Well, given that I agree with you about that it would be very hard to get individual members to take up a suggestion for something this obscure, I thought that I had to ask a few hundred of them at once in order to even stand a chance of receiving any help.

I also thought that I could be allowed to be unprofessional and use my position to start a bit of a vanity project just this once, given that I never remotely do this sort of thing normally.

        Loading editor
    • @Overlord775

Tone down the hostility please. I have worked for over 20,000 hours for free for the sake of taking care of this community, and tried hard to be as unbiased and reasonable as I can manage during most of that time. One small vanity project for a few minutes of that time does not remotely constitute abuse of power.

It is unprofessional, yes, but I have waited for years for somebody to get interested in creating profiles for these characters on their own, and nothing has happened.

        Loading editor
    • you could have just done what litterally every single other user and staff member does

create a thread, bump it once a while and wait

        Loading editor
    • @Overlord775

Well, time is limited before the forum move. I know that you are one of the members who like me the least in general, as you have repeatedly made that very clear, but even you should be able to allow me a very small benefit after all that I have done for this community.

      Anyway, let's stop derailing please.

        Loading editor
    • @Antvasima

could just done after the forum move but whatever

also it's not that i don't like you in specific, it's that i don't like most things in general

okay, so tell us something about this gold mine and time president

what do they do, what is the plot, is Time Lincoln made of time ?

        Loading editor
    • I don't see it as much of an issue for Ant to use it, especially if its just this once.

Verse specific threads have been highlighted despite mass-uninterest in said verse, including Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and BlazBlue, the last of which is so incredibly niche that I had barely heard of it prior to joining the wiki and meeting Glass. It isn't as if Ant is demanding slave labor, man's just asking for help. Lay off him.

As for you Ant, I have no personal intent in helping unless feats are brought to me. Apologies, though.

        Loading editor
    • I was planning on making a thread for these sorts of requests (finding other users to help you make profiles for a verse) after the forum move was done, as I personally have a few verses where I'd need to have in-depth discussions with people who have at least read the verse about a few plot events before I can finish profiles.

I'm not interested in helping out with the verses you suggested myself, but if progress on this hasn't been made by then I'll point you to that thread once the move's over.

    • Zachary Grossman was working on Gold Digger profiles, if that interests you

        Loading editor
    • @Overlord

I have now linked to summaries of both comicbooks in the first post. For more than that, you will likely have to check for them at readcomiconline (Please support Fred via Comixology if you can afford it. The GD comics there are much cheaper than usual.) I would recommend starting with the colour series for Gold Digger, as the first 54 black and white comicbooks are largely not very good in terms of quality.

      @Bambu

Thank you. No problem. I am not forcing anybody to help me out. I am just unfortunately too busy with taking care of the wiki to do the work myself.

it would be very useful if you actually help and list some of the abilities/powers and feats for the characters that you remember about since it's pretty clear you already read them

it would speed up the process quite a bit

    • @Zachary

Well, the void entity that constantly consumes universal space-time continuums is at least Low 2-C, so that is something, but most of the setting is fairly low-powered with lots of hax.

      @Overlord

It wouldn't. There are at least 272 issues worth of stories just in the regular series, with lots of miniseries, annuals, one-shots, handbooks, etcetera, on top of that, and there are a massive amount of superpowers with RPG-level mechanics behind them. Also, the series is easy to pick up if you start at the beginning of the colour series, but it has a large and complicated lore that is hard to explain properly.

    • Time Lincoln is very simple though. Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, and other significant historical figures travel through time to stop Stalin, Mao, and Hitler from taking over all of human history. It is fun and silly overall, with some very dark undertones naturally.

After you have worked for 20,000 hours diligently taking care of this community as best and reasonably as you possibly can, and while constantly abstaining from trying to be obnoxious in the meantime, feel free to get a brief moment of trying to raise some attention for one of your favourite series.

        Loading editor
    • Anyway, can we please get back on topic, or are any more people going to take this as an excuse to take potshots at me?

        Loading editor
    • While I wouldn't mind helping out making the hub page or help with profile editing, I don't think I have enough down time to help in a major way. To my understanding the series has been a monthly thing since 1993. 27 years of comics and spin offs requires a decent amount of downtime that I may not have.

        Loading editor
    • No problem at all. (Also, it should be enough to search for "Gold Digger (1999)" at readcomiconline.)

        Loading editor
    • The 1999 one is actually the third volume of the series. Volume 1 ran in 1993 and volume 2 from 93 to 99. While I don't know a lot about the series, you'd probably would need to read those first before getting into the 1999 one for the sake of profiling.

        Loading editor
    • That is true in terms of continuity, but you would also have to endure 54 issues without any colour, from when the author/artist was still much less skilled/experienced/entertaining. Also, the beginning of the third series was constructed as an easy jumping on point.

        Loading editor
    • Oh okay

        Loading editor
    • I like the premise of this thread and all, but highlighting an entire thread in hopes of just making an entire verse in without being actually related to rules outside popularity is a bit too biased, so I hope this isn't done too much in the future to avoid any potential harm to the image of the staff.

        Loading editor
    • It won't be done in the future. It is a one-time occurrence, due to that nothing has happened for years with this verse.

        Loading editor
    • The same can be said for Suggsverse

        Loading editor
    • Suggsverse has received lots of threads, and is specifically designed to break our system. We recently created a rule against it partially for this reason.

        Loading editor
    • I agree with Ant that the onetime highlight is fine. Considering how hardworking and over-tasked he is, he deserves to do something fun for once.

Anyway, Gold Digger looks like a fun series just from looking up its page. To bad I don't really purchase comics, but I hear there do exist places to look for to read online for free. No URLs obviously, but I might be interested to add to my list of franchises to get into.

        Loading editor
    • Thank you.

You can read it for free at readcomiconline.to, and then support it via Comixology, if you like the series and can afford it.

        Loading editor
    • Popularity shouldn’t be an issue, but Suggsverse has... other issues.

        Loading editor
    • If something is obscure to the point that we cannot find enough people who can evaluate the series, it is definitely an issue, but there are other disqualifying factors for the Suggsverse as well, as you say.

        Loading editor
    • Anyway, let's stick to the topic please.

Gold Digger is actually very entertaining if you start at the beginning of the colour series, when it had sufficiently established its setting, and the author had turned experienced enough, so it isn't like I am requesting that people punish themselves with something bad.

        Loading editor
    • The question of why this is a highlight was brought up and sufficiently answered at the start of the thread by Ant and Bambu. This isn't a big deal. We've had verse-specific highlights before many times for introduction, revision and deletion of verses. Not saying that those cases relate to this one, but the arguments related to that matter were already brought up and discussed before and this is a one-time thing. People don't need to jump on Ant with that same point every three hours.

    • Okay. I don't like the original black and white series much in comparison, but if you can stand it, you should obviously feel free to read in chronological order.

        Loading editor
    • Hey, fan of the series here alerted to this discussion. For reading it free online, the creator actually released the first 199 issues for free (main series only, no side stories or such), legal and clear-

      http://antarcticpresslibrary.com/

Analyzing it should be relatively easy, there's a number of unamiguous feats. Like issue 11 of the B&W series has Britanny lifting weights with 2 tons, but when the weight increases to 4 then 8 then 12, it's rapidly too much for her, showing her limit's around 4 or so. Also in the issue her regen is mentioned- being hit by a semi truck is 'mangled mass of bones' but non-fatal (were regen is fairly nice, outside of silver, magic, and other were attacks).

Color 84/134 total shows Brit's best moves can make sonic booms, but only her best moves.

And there's a lot more for different characters, but nice hard numbers occasionally show up.

        Loading editor
    • Well, Britanny goes up enormously in power level later on after she gets ether vents.

        Loading editor
    • Yea, a number of characters have upgrades as time goes on. Her cheetah-form physical stats don't change much (though she does become a much more skilled martial artist). She eventually gains magic, giving her a stat-boosting tempest form and various spells.

On the whole it's not really a 'power leveling' type series, people don't constantly increase, but when someone gains training or learns a new discipline it shows.

        Loading editor
    • Yes, that is true.

        Loading editor
    • Anyway, would you be interested in starting to look for useful feats to be calculated for a later project?

        Loading editor
    • Sure, I can probably find a good number. Heck, many simply from memory.

        Loading editor
    • Thank you for helping out. I appreciate it.

        Loading editor
    • Okay. Thank you for helping out. I appreciate it.

        Loading editor
    • I do have a few scans here. Gina clearly has genius intelligence and will get deeper into that eventually, but the first scan mentioning the 210 IQ is a decent start. There are some consistent feats that are Subsonic given the blurs from Cheetah's punches and Gina's face. Cheetah is also strong enough to smash some stone golem like creatures, which is worthwhile for a calculation. And Gina also has something called a Tachyon Beam, which Cheetah makes a mention of wasting half the golems despite completely missing. There's plenty more scans to look at from the first 4 chapters alone, but these are the ones I collected so far.

        Loading editor
    • It isn't possible to have 210 IQ, as 200 is the intended human maximum in relation to the rest of humanity. It is best to ignore that particular mention.

However, Gina has demonstrated mid-level Extraordinary Genius intelligence several times in the series, and the Dreadwing/Peachbody fusion may have reached a Supergenius level. (My apologies for the spoiler.)

        Loading editor
    • Actually, there are several people with recorded higher than that. I know IQ is officially not very reliable, but it's still something note worthy. I think it was 300 that was what people considered highest possible. And it's alright, I don't mind simple details all too much.

        Loading editor
    • 210 IQ sounds like a passable supporting feat for whatever rating's given regardless, it's clear what the author's intention is when including something like that.

        Loading editor
    • Well, according to what I have read, 200 is always intended to be the human maximum at any given time, and that chart does not seem reliable at all, as according to it, even I at my old peak would have somehow been smarter than Stephen Hawking, which is ridiculous.

        Loading editor
    • Don't use IQ ratings as basis alone, the guy who was said to be 245-300 is contested, the system just doesn't work at super high ends (It's entirely based off comparisons to others, and at super high or low ends the sample sizes are too low for it to be reliable), and even people up at this upper echelon frequently deride trying to use IQ as some end all be all smartness meter.

        Loading editor
    • Agreed.

        Loading editor
    • No one was using it as a basis alone, just a minor side note. Several profiles list IQ ratings to start their descriptions, but is followed by a list of academic backgrounds and feats and abilities.

        Loading editor
    • Well, I think that listing IQ at all is unreliable, especially as different fictions use different standards, and given that the entire point of IQ is that it is about a distribution curve in relation to the rest of humanity that currently shouldn't make it possible to exceed around 195.

The reasons for the confusion is that IQ is also sometimes multiplied by regarding one's intellectual feats in relation to being underage at the time, but this is a far more unreliable method than simply testing somebody's capacity in different areas.

        Loading editor
    • I know about those details, it's explained in the Intelligence page.

    • Seems weird for a Gold Digger movie to get a G-rating.

        Loading editor
    • Well, it was quite harmless.

        Loading editor
    • It was by the comic's creator done as a side project. So sure, it's kinda amateur, but dang, who self-makes their own animated show for fun?

        Loading editor
    • Yes, he is very hard-working, but since his comicbooks contain quite a lot of cheesecake, and do not contain lots of progressive political propaganda, he has not received almost any publicity from the mainstream press, despite all of his extreme amounts of consistent productive work.

        Loading editor
    • ... " progressive political propaganda "? Don't go inserting your weirdo political axes to the grind into this discussion. I don't get why people feel the need to hijack comic discussions in order to throw in their bizarre bones to pick.

(Can also point out that a printed letter column a few issues back dubs a theme of the comic as 'the materiachy wins,' so still kinda wrong to boot)

        Loading editor
    • Fred himself has mentioned in the past that since he doesn't exactly follow what is considered acceptable by the comicbook industry as a whole (which seems to be systematically blacklisting most conservative creators), he also doesn't get almost any publicity. That is all.

Anyway, that is a derailment, so let's return to the subject at hand of creating profile pages for this series.

        Loading editor
    • -Eyeroll- Ah yes, conspiracy theories. Nah, it doesn't blacklist anything of the sort, and claims of such are, ironically, inevitably used to attack creators doing stuff the complainer doesn't like in a gatekeeping (and ironically, far more provable) fashion.

Don't bring up derails if you don't want stuff derailed. No-one wants to hear about you attacking other comics randomly when trying to discuss researching this topic, got it? If you want any help researching, get your head on strait and don't derail with crap potshots.

        Loading editor
    • I didn't potshot anybody. Creators like Ethan VanSciver and Chuck Dixon genuinely have been blacklisted, Bill Willingham has to be extremely careful in order to get any work at all, and I have read several articles about this and other highly unethical practices in the western comicbook industry. You would probably be able to count the number of currently active conservative western comicbook creators on one hand.

You were also the one who suddenly started to use a very rude tone in this thread, not myself.

Anyway, this is still derailing. It is best if we peacefully simply agree to disagree about this issue.

        Loading editor
    • I'm all for taking potshots at industries and government, but I guess I'll have to wait for now.

        Loading editor
    • Anyway, help with the main topic would still be very appreciated.

        Loading editor
    • Also, this thread was created in order to try to do something nice for the very creative Gold Digger writer/artist by giving him some free publicity, so it is best if we move past the politics. See the third comic strip on my user page for more about that theme.

    • More like to satisfy the bias of an staff member

Anyways, I think that we could start actually writing feats somewhere, as this is basically turning a bit too unorganized to get anything actually done beyond casual discussion of the series.

        Loading editor
    • No, I genuinely wanted to help out a bit.

In any case, maybe somebody could start a Gold Digger Sandbox page, in which the people who are willing to help out can post lists with scans of individual feats, which can later be calculated? Just avoid linking directly to scanslation sites. Upload single pages to here instead.
