Recently there were people massively raiding the wiki, who are sending porn, gore and links to virus sites. It's happening for around 2 months now, but it was most notable yesterday, for example here and here.
It's a HUGE problem. Two users already clicked those links and are in problem now.
If you see someone unfamiliar sending some link, DON'T CLICK IT. First you NEED to check his profile and threads, when did he create that account and see other threads he posted on. Then report that to the staff immediately before someone clicks on it.
To be fair, this is something that's been going on for a long time; people have been uploading porn and both sexually and systemically harassing the wiki for years now. But I do agree and we already have guidelines not to click suspicious links. And it's always good to have a good anti-virus system before going to these types of communities.
I think I was at work when that person gave me one as well, and said post was whammed by Fandom or whoever was staff on that other wiki. Though, I too have gotten multiple death threats from these trolls. I just hakai it and report it to Fandom.
Yes, death threats are a issue that are taken seriously. If a raid is happening, please also contact Volunteer Spam Task Force so that swift action can be taken to help you manage issues like the raid.
I mean, is there much that can be done about these trolls on a larger scale?
Regardless of whether they are blocked or IP blocked, they have a way around it and a way to make more accounts for trolling. I understand that I likely don’t have all the information I’d need to say for sure, but under the circumstances I’m curious what FANDOM can actually do to stop trolls.
If the people are legit causing problems to the wiki to the point where even Fandom is having trouble getting rid of all of them, they could contact the law enforcement of various places. Especially if the severity of it is especially illegal.
These are wikis that are specifically designed to be usable and accessible even by minors, and these trolls are posting extreme gore and pornography. Doing so knowingly to a group of people who could contain people who are underage would almost certainly be a crime.
I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a serious statement. Or at least I hope it wasn’t
But, well, one problem that comes up is priority. Getting late enforcement to focus on something is a matter of priority, they’ll focus only on the crimes that are the most severe first, and get to the less severe ones later. Reporting a bunch of internet trolls to them likely won’t cause much to happen, at least for a while.
Sexual harassment involving minors is a very serious crime to the point where it might be beyond a crime. Yes, people have literally had the F.B.I. and the C.I.A. after them for uploading cp. For lesser effenses that can be handled more easily, it would be the police. But excessive ones doing this stuff internationally is pretty much terrorism right there.
Yes, my apologies, I didn’t mean to imply that it wasn’t a serious crime. My point is just that it’d be difficult to convince law enforcement to take the issue of internet trolls seriously. Even extremely serious things like real life assaults are sometimes borderline ignored with a simple “we’ll see what we can do” statement.
Yeah, its honestly sickening. The gore is one thing, but the child **** is a massive crime in of itself. Even moreso if you purposly use it to harass people, expecially minors.
Thus they would be in trouble for two crimes, both very severe. We should at least have them reported to the authorities. People shoulden't get away with things like this, and simply being banned from Fandom is too minor a punishment.
I don't get why people go this far too troll. As this has evolved to a serious crime.
I am gonna be honest here and I think there should be a hidden means to report trolls/discuss what they do wrong. It only gives them attention to acknowledge their existence on public report threads.
Being blunt, making these types of threads and unironically talking about reporting this to the police and the military just gives the trolls more power.
VSBW has a really bad habit to cling on to the trolls and give them the spotlight, which is what makes them think they've won.
I understand that trolls feed off of attention, and that it’s often best to ignore them to make them go away.
But if they’re at the point of directly and intentionally doing illegal actions for the sake of trolling, then that’s the point of severity that it’s less about giving them what they want and more about them getting the punishment they deserve.
Hello, one of trolls here, before me ban me, please hear me out. The entire point of the thread Goji linked was for me to clear up some of the accusations that were thrown at us. I'll go out of way and say that only one and I mean one person posted child . Said person has been trolling since 2016. https://deathbattlefanon.fandom.com/wiki/User:JOSHUA1080?useskin=oasis Well before any of us started our trolling careers, nor is a part of our Discord group.
Said person also trolls exclusively on https://mortalkombat.fandom.com/wiki/User:JOSHUA1080?useskin=oasishttps://aphmau.fandom.com/wiki/User:JOSHUA1080?useskin=oasis that we've never even touched or even considered touching. If someone is posting child then it isn't one of us. At worst we post gore. We do not condone child porn in any shape, way or form. That being said if someone is posting child ** or abuse then please contact the FBI or CPS. As for the doxxing situation. Ip-Logger only gets your IP which can easily be changed by restarting your router. It doesn't give us the names or addresses of those who've clicked the link. We have no way of telling who's who, as it only gives us the countries and states who those who've clicked it. Ip Logger also deletes all existing Ips once you exit the site. We didn't bother to take screenshots nor do we give a shit enough to remember anyone's ips. TLDR: No, we do not post child porn and no, we do not have anyones doxxes.
Sorry, didn't read the part where you told me that you don't care about our IP.
Well, that was a relief. I'd reccomend though, that if you're going to post gore, just do it on a place where most users are relatively adult. Showing excessive gore to children is considered child abuse iirc.
Just refrain from posting "viruses". People get really stressed about stuff like that. With the little knowledge that I had on the subject, my mind started making up the rest. I was fearing for my life.
