Summary

Miles Prower (マイルス・パウアー Mairusu Pauā), better known as Tails (テイルス Teirusu), is a pivotal supporting hero from the video game series; Sonic the Hedgehog. He is an anthropomorphic fox cub born with two twin-tails, a genetic mutation which would spawn his nickname. Because of his abnormality, he was the subject of bullying during his youth that left him timid and lacking courage. This would change upon meeting Sonic the Hedgehog,[6] with his inspiration of the blue hero leading the fox to travelling across the world and beyond in adventures to aid him whenever possible.[7] He has since become Sonic's best and most-trusted friend, with the duo forming an unbreakable, sibling-like bond. Being the complimentary brain to Sonic's speed and Knuckles' strength, Tails' true power lies in the brilliance of his mind.

His most recent journey to the Starfall Islands alongside Amy and Sonic due to the disappearance of the Chaos Emeralds would result in a vortex pulling the trio into Cyber Space, kickstarting the events of Sonic Frontiers. It would be some time before being freed by Sonic on Chaos Island, time that Tails would use to question his heroism and whether or not he was a burden due to his wavering courage and inconsistency. Upon being reminded of his accomplishments by Sonic, who would claim needing help is simply a part of growing up, Tails' resolve would strengthen and he would declare that his full potential would only be reached if he went on his own to avoid relying on Sonic. Something that Sonic himself would encourage, a dynamic of more than a hero and his sidekick; as partners.[8] When Sonic succumbs to the cyber corruption on Rhea Island that had been afflicting him across his journey, Tails successfully drives back the cyber corruption with the help of Amy and Knuckles to bring him back.[9] This would ultimately be the catalyst which allowed Sonic to complete his mission; defeating the Titans, saving his friends from Cyber Space, and ensuring the safety of the world and beyond from The End.

Whether it's defeating the many creations of Dr. Eggman, aiding in the defeat of eldritch gods, or overcoming his own internal doubts, Tails is a good-natured individual who's stepped into the role of a hero far more than he's ever been one to back down in the face of evil.

Attack Potency: Dwarf Brown level (Comparable to Classic Sonic and Classic Knuckles. Can wreck Mecha Sonic Mk. II[82]) | Solar System level (Comparable to Adventure Sonic. Fought evenly with Adventure Knuckles,[86] later defeating Chaos 4.[87] Fought Team Rose and Team Dark to a presumable standstill[88]) to Galaxy level (Fought Shadow to a standstill alongside Emerl to prevent the Gizoid's destruction,[89] who himself fought Emerl after it acquired the seven Chaos Emeralds alongside Sonic. Can fight and damage Gemerl[90]) higher with Power Cores (Power Cores double the physical characteristics of their user) | High Universe level (Helped defeat the Babylon Guardian in Sonic Riders. Often noted to be training with Sonic,[91] having fought him directly when he was mind-controlled before defeating both him and Ifrit at once. Fought and defeated Metal Sonic.[92]) to Low Multiverse level (Comparable to his Camelot counterpart, who can harm Sonic and the Knights of the Round Table in combat.[93] Sheared through Super Badniks in a comparable fashion to Sonic.[1] Physically harmed Zomom alongside Amy, albeit they were unable to overcome him directly.[94] Comparable to the likes of Espio, Tangle, and several others who fought against and notably damaged Giga Omega.[95][96] Aided Sonic in the fight against the Badnik train[84][Statistics Values 1]), higher with Boost | Varies (The power of the Chaos Emeralds are directly noted by Starline to vary in power depending on the circumstances); Low Multiverse level (Empowered by the Chaos Emeralds. Worked together with Super Sonic and Super Knuckles to defeat Metal Overlord.[79] Can damage and destroy the Phantom King[97][Statistics Values 2]), up to Complex Multiverse level at his peak (Aided Super Sonic in his battle against Metal Overlord. Should be capable of achieving the same level of power used by Classic Super Sonic and Modern Super Sonic to defeat the Time Eater.[98] Can potentially use the full power of the Chaos Emeralds, as he's capable of entering a Hyper Form, which empowered Super Sonic and Super Shadow to a level where they could harm Solaris with similar power to Super Silver [who used the deity's own attacks against it].[65] Super Sonic and Burning Blaze harmed and ultimately destroyed the Egg Wizard while it was wielding the Power of the Stars.[99] At his strongest, Super Sonic destroyed three of the Titans and harmed The End[100][101][102][103][Statistics Values 3]) | Complex Multiverse level (Empowered by the Super Emeralds, the Chaos Emeralds enhanced by the Master Emerald's power, making him comparable in strength to Hyper Sonic[Statistics Values 3])

Speed: FTL (While not quite as fast, he can catch up to and keep pace with Classic Sonic[6]), higher with the Spin Dash (Tails is able to utilize the Spin Dash, a technique that allowed him [or rather Nine, a Shatterverse counterpart of Tails with an altered history] to to blitz a group of Eggforcers that were initially blitzing them [104]) higher combat and reaction speed with Hyper Mode (Hyper Mode is a combat speed speed augmentation bestowed by the power of a Chaos Emerald, which can grant physical amplifications superior to Power Cores) | Massively FTL (Can beat Sonic in a casual race[105] consistently keeps up with him on their journeys.) to Massively FTL+ (Can keep pace with members of Team Dark and Team Rose in battle[88] Repeatedly fought Gemerl alongside Sonic) higher with Jet Anklets and Power Cores, higher with the Spin Dash | Massively FTL+ (Has journeyed alongside Sonic on numerous adventures and is somewhat comparable, capable of fighting him while he's mostly under Ifrit's mind control. Can catch up to the Eggmobile, which traveled to the Nonaggression Zone in order to fight Ultimate Gemerl and is comparable to the Extreme Gears he maneuvers.[Statistics Values 4]) to Infinite (Intercepted Sonic's movement while under the influence of mind control.[55] Saved Sonic from a Heavy-Egg Hammer's swing that he would've been unable to evade.[1] Outpaced and fought Zomom alongside Amy.[94] Dodged a lunge from Zavok and later closed the distance between them to land an attack in quick succession.[57] Although inferior, he's overall relative Sonic), higher with the Spin Dash and Boost | Varies (Powered by the seven Chaos Emeralds, which possess immense chaotic energies with fluctuating power levels,[106] with Tails able to harness varying levels of positive energy); Infinite (Empowered by the Chaos Emeralds, which empowered Super Sonic to fly to the Exception), up to Immeasurable at his peak (Should be able to use the full power of the Chaos Emeralds, which enabled Super Sonic to move to different areas of time to combat Solaris with movement alone and dodge its attacks that appear and strike throughout all of time simultaneously.[65] Battled Metal Overlord alongside Super Sonic), higher with the Spin Dash | Immeasurable (Far faster than Super Tails. Comparable to Hyper Sonic), higher with the Spin Dash

Lifting Strength: At least Class K (Can drag the ten-ton weight, "Omori",[107] and move boulders as large as himself.[82] Superior in physical strength to Dr. Eggman) | Class M (Comparable to Sonic, who toppled the Egg Golem. Brought the Riot Train to a halt alongside Sonic, Knuckles, and Amy[108]) | At least Class M (Metal Sonic at his weakest, considered in no shape to fight after being somewhat repaired by Tails, was still capable of breaking the chains that were used to restrain it.[109] Comparable in strength to Tangle the Lemur, who gaped a hole in a reinforced door[110]) | Varies, at least Multi-Stellar (Far above his Base form[Statistics Values 5]) to Immeasurable (Powered by the full power of the seven Chaos Emeralds, which should be superior to the World Rings empowering Darkspine Sonic and comparable to Solaris[Statistics Values 6]) | Immeasurable (Far stronger than Super Tails)

Striking Strength: Dwarf Brown level (Comparable to other fighters in the Classic Era, who can all harm one another with their blows[111]) | Solar System level (Harmed Chaos 4 with his attacks.[87] Can harm members of Team Dark and Team Rose) to Galaxy level (Able to trade blows with the likes of Shadow. Can badly damage and destroy machines comprised of Gemerl[90]), higher with Power Cores | Low Multiverse level (Can topple Super Badniks.[1] Staggered Zavok with a Spin Attack[57]) | Varies; Low Multiverse level (Wrecked both the Klepto Mobile and the Phantom King[97]) up to Complex Multiverse level at his peak (Should be capable of harnessing the same level of power that Classic Super Sonic and Modern Super Sonic used to harm the Time Eater. Tails being able to achieve a Hyper form implies he can access the full power of the Chaos Emeralds[Statistics Values 3]) | Complex Multiverse level (Far superior to Super Tails[Statistics Values 3])

Durability: Dwarf Brown level (Can withstand hits from the likes of Classic Sonic and Classic Knuckles), higher with Chaos Emeralds (The more Chaos Emeralds Tails has, the more health he gets).[22] Up to Complex Multiverse level Damage Transferal with Rings (Having enough Rings shields damage from those as strong as Void and Tethered Supreme[Statistics Values 3]) | Solar System level (Able to take attacks from Chaos 4 with little issue.[87] Withstood attacks from Team Dark and Team Rose in their battles[88]) to Galaxy level (Able to withstand both basic strikes and special attacks from the likes of Shadow, as well as Gemerl and the various forms he made while comprised of Eggtech[90]), higher with Tails Guard (With his Guard Skill, Tails is able to block against attacks that would normally be able to defeat him in one strike[36]) and with Power Cores. Up to Complex Multiverse level Damage Transferal with Rings[Statistics Values 3] | Low Multiverse level (Can take hits from Ifrit and Sonic while he's under its control. Withstood a charged hit from Surge and her electricity, which dazed him for a few moments.[112] Took a smack from Metal Sonic and quickly recovered[113]), higher with Boost. Intelligence: Supergenius normally, Genius Combatant (Tails is a highly gifted mechanic and engineer, often stated to have intellect rivalling that of Dr. Eggman.[115][116][117][118] He's very hands-on because of it, doing things such as building a fox over the course of minutes[119] and dismantling one of Eggman's mechs with a wrench.[120] His technological prowess also extends to hacking, such as tracking the limo of the United Nations president,[35] hacking into the programming of Emerl to discover his true purpose,[121] and creating code on the fly to override Eggman's systems of Giga Omega.[96] Espio referred to him as being observant[122] and said to have "brains like Eggman" from Sonic, having outsmarted the scientist on numerous occasions in the past. He can create an Extreme Gear that impresses the likes of Wave, who had far more experience in that field by comparison, and outfitted Sonic's Extreme Gear to create miniature tornados.[123] Created a replica of a Chaos Emerald that included the same wavelength and properties,[124] albeit weaker, and on a separate occasion used the power of the Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds to create a ship capable of dimensional travel.[56] Tails has claimed he could build a T.V. out of paperclips and reprogram a super computer using only dishwashing detergent and a toothpick.[59] Reprogrammed Eggman's machinery to restore the planet's stolen energy, an accomplishment Tails noted as something even Eggman couldn't do.[59] Capable of analyzing Cyber Space and glimpsing into its data, a technology vastly superior to any other on the planet at that point. He successfully figured out the mechanics of Eggman's Tower.[125][126][127] Constantly fights alongside the likes of Sonic rather competently. Constantly fought and trained Emerl as he gained more Chaos Emeralds and awoken more of his ancient combat data, even being able to train with him after he acquired all 7 Chaos Emeralds)

Weaknesses: He lacks self-confidence. Is afraid of lightning[128] | Same as before, although he has mostly improved upon it since Sonic Adventure. He can't fly very long while carrying too much weight, as he will get tired faster. | When he's Digitized, his interaction with the world becomes more limited. | None notable | None notable

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

Standard Techniques:

  • Spin Attack: Tails curls into a ball while rolling across the ground at high speeds, harming anything that makes contact with him for simultaneous offense and defense.
    • Spin Jump: A mid-air variation of the Spin Attack, the Spin Jump has remained one of the simplest yet most effective means of attack throughout many of Tails' adventures. When jumping into the air, Tails will curl into a spinning ball and harm the enemy without repercussion (though there are exceptions to this, such as coming into contact with spikes). He can even do so repeatedly, allowing for quick and successive damage.
  • Spin Dash: Tails curls into a ball and accelerates to top speeds after a small wind-up, propelling him forward. It can also be performed without a charge period for quick evasion.[5] It is said that Tails was the first to create the Spin Dash by imitating Sonic's performances.
  • Homing Attack: Tails can spin jump and home in on his enemies and attack them with great velocity and speed. (Adventure onwards)
  • Boost: Tails coats himself in a yellow aura and rockets forward at top speed, granting instant acceleration and turning him into a highly destructive projectile able to mow down anything in his path.
    • Air Boost: An airborne variation of the Boost, used to increase the Tails's speed in midair and soar through the sky. Tails's use for this technique can range from quick evasion away from an enemy, to surfing through the air for long distances, cancelling attacks before they strike a target, and more.
  • Quickstep: Tails performs a swift-strafing movement to the left or right. When doing so, Tails appears as nothing but a blur, indicating his short burst speed is swifter than his steady pace.
  • Slide: Tails falls back while running and slides along the ground with his feet in front of him, capable of sweeping comparable characters off their feet. This can be combined with his Boost technique to further amplify both his mobility and striking power
  • Cyloop: Leaving a light trail in his wake, enclosing it will result in various possible effects taking place. This ranges from launching several enemies into the air at once to freely collecting rings.
  • Parry: While guarding, Tails automatically parries attacks that strike him and deflects them without harm. A successful parry will slow things to a crawl without affecting Tails himself, allowing more leeway for him to react.

Combat:

  • Tail Swipe: Tails does a 360° spin, lashing out with his twin tails to damage any enemies in front of him.
  • Super Tail Swipe: Tails performs a Tail Swipe at high speeds, forming a large, light blue wave as his tails are swung, increasing his attack range.
  • Rapid Tails Attack: An advanced form of the Tail Swipe move where Tails performs a chain of continuous Tail Swipes in rapid succession.
  • Tornado Attack: Tails performs a Tail Swipe at such incredible speeds and force that it forms air currents around him, making him resemble a mini tornado.

Bombs: Tails has a vast array of bombs at his disposal, each varied in utility.

Helmet: Tails' Helmet deflects enemy fire when he's hiding under it.

Cyclone:

  • The Cyclone is a transforming mesh which has three alternate modes it can change into; plane mode, walker mode, and car mode. In plane mode, it becomes a rocket-powered monoplane. In walker mode, it becomes a bipedal mech suited for combat. In cart mode, it becomes a four-wheeled cart which can drive at high speeds. The Cyclone is one of Tails' most powerful creations, capable of overpowering all kinds of robot drones belonging to GUN and can even overpower Dr. Eggman's Eggwalker. It is armed with various weapons; the Volkan Cannon mini-gun, a laser target, a grappling hook, and two kinds of missile launchers which can either shoot homing missiles at locked targets or missile barrages. Its most potent weapon however, is a large multi-colored laser which it can fire from the front.

Other Inventions:

  • Tails Heal: Tails utilizes a healing machine in order to recover from damage received[129]
  • Magic Hand: Tails uses the Magic Hand to deliver a punch at opponents. The Magic Hand appears to be a boxing glove attached to a spring-like object, allowing him to swing the invention around his body before hitting the opponent.
  • Energy Ball: Tails summons a red arm cannon known as the Energy Ball, a red arm cannon, which shoots an energy projectile at the opponent that takes the form of a yellow sphere.[89]
  • Flick: Tails summons a large, gloved hand known as the Big Hand. It appears from underground to flick away and deal damage to opponents.[89]
  • Chu² Bomb: Tails summons a mouse-shaped bomb which runs along the ground and actively seeks out opponents. Once close enough to whomever they seek, it will explode.[89]

Bombs:

Miles Electric:

Wisps Beings from the inhabitant of Planet Wisp, Tails can harness their energy for a variety of effects.

  • Cyan Laser:
    • Using the power of a Cyan Wisp, Tails transforms into a cyan laser beam. As the Cyan Laser, Tails gains the same properties as that of a real laser, allowing him to move as a living beam of light. When hitting any surfaces as the Cyan Laser, Tails can also bounce off them as if they were a reflective surface.
  • Indigo Asteroid:
    • Using the power of an Indigo Wisp, Tails turns into an orb-shaped body with striped indigo skin and a matching planetary ring encircling his middle. As the Indigo Asteroid, Tails essentially becomes a miniature planet with a strong gravitational field. Tails is as such capable of creating a powerful gravitational pull around himself, strong enough to tear all kinds of objects to pieces and pull them into the Asteroid Ring. Additionally, the gathered matter can be used to empower the gravitational pull. The Indigo Asteroid also grants Tails the ability to levitate through midair.
  • Yellow Drill:
    • Using the power of a Yellow Wisp, Tails turns into a yellow spiral drill. As the Yellow Drill, Tails can burrow and tunnel underground at remarkable high speeds and can be applied underwater, allowing Tails to move through water like a living torpedo.
  • Jade Ghost:
    • With a Jade Wisp, Tails is able to turn himself invisible and intangible; he can thus pass through obstacles and remain unseen while also slightly hovering through the air when using its power.

This is accessible to both Classic Tails and Modern Tails, as both are playable within Sonic Speed Simulator.

Pets: Also referred to as Friends, these creatures will hover closely behind their wielder that typically focus on granting benefits on several stats;

  • Experience (The amount of experience gained when defeating an opponent)
  • Rings (the amount of Rings gained per a single Ring)
  • Damage (the amount of damage dealt to bosses and powerful enemies).
  • Stamina (The amount of energy consumed when Boosting)
  • Air (The amount of time possible to spend underwater without air)
  • Luck (Non-Combat Applicable).

Up to 3-5 Pets can be equipped at a single time, stacking the benefits from each.

For a full reference of different Pets and their impact, see here.

Trails: Trails are equippable items that range from Level 1 to Level 25 at maximum. They typically focus on increasing three statistics, but different Trails offer benefits that include other statistics. Like Pets, these include altering;

  • Experience
  • Rings
  • Damage
  • Stamina
  • Air

Unlike Pets, only one trail can be equipped at any given time.

For a full reference of Trails and their impact, see here.

Credit and thanks to the Sonic Speed Simulator wiki.

  • Super Flickies Attack: Hyper Tails summons 4 flickies and give them their own Super state as they follow Tails. The flickies attack anything within range on their own.

Notes/Explanations

Note
  1. Rebirths are canonical, as Dr. Eggman accidentally rebirthed the entire timeline by using Rebirth Energy.
  2. Despite gameplay containing a certain character, this is universally true of all playable characters in Sonic Speed Simulator.
  3. The Possibly rating indicates the possibility of the Wisp bestowing their abilities upon the user, and not the abilities themselves being categorized as a possibility. As such, this extends to all Wisp pets from Sonic Speed Sim.

  • As long as the Super Emeralds are active, the Hyper Form can be accessed anywhere even without having them in person.
  • Although Tails hasn't been shown to use the full extent of Chaos Emeralds' power, he can still potentially access their full power due to being able to enter a Hyper Form.
