The TIE Interceptor, officially designated TIE/IN Interceptor, was a type of space superiority starfighter manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems for the Galactic Empire’s Imperial Navy. It was designed to address some of the shortcomings of the standard TIE/LN while also making compromises so as to keep the model’s overall cost well below that of the far deadlier but far more expensive TIE Advanced x1. The Imperial Navy planned to eventually phase out the basic TIE/LN and replace it completely with the TIE Interceptor. By 4 ABY, the TIE Interceptor made up 20% of the empire’s total starfighter fleet. Despite many of its own shortcomings, such as the lack of a deflector shield generator and hyperdrive, the TIE Interceptor proved to be one of the deadliest dogfighters of its era and was absolutely not taken lightly by Alliance and New Republic fighter pilots.
Powers and Stats
Tier: At least 7-C
Name: TIE/IN Interceptor
Origin: Star Wars
Classification: Space superiority starfighter
Users: Galactic Empire (Imperial Navy)
Length: 11.45 meters
Width: 8.08 meters
Height: 7.2 meters
Material: Titanium armor fuselage and Transparisteel canopy
Needed prerequisite for use: 1 trained pilot
Terrain: Space, Atmosphere
Attack Potency: At least Town level+ with laser cannons (Equipped with L-s9.3 laser cannons. A quick burst is often enough to deplete the shields of most medium and even heavy starfighters and cripple ships whose hulls are more expansive and at least as durable as that of the likes of the Ghost and Gozanti-class Cruiser)
Speed: Transonic atmospheric speed (1,250+ km/hr). Can accelerate continuously to Sub-Relativistic+ speeds in space (One of the swiftest starfighters of its era. Its sublight engines allow it to easily attain exoatmospheric speeds at least comparable to those attained by the likes of the Millennium Falcon and Carrion Spike)
Durability: Large Building level+ (Better built and more durable overall than the standard TIE)
Range: Several kilometers with its laser cannons.
- Lacks a deflector shield generator. This leaves it vulnerable to being literally one-shot by other starfighters and pretty much any laser cannon emplacement.
- Lacks a hyperdrive. This limits its strategic viability since it has to be ferried across interstellar distances by a hyperdrive equipped carrier craft.
- Although not as bad as on the standard TIE, the solar array frames nonetheless do create some blind spots for the pilot. And much like on the standard TIE, if the solar array support frame is severely damaged, the craft can go out of control.
