Introduction
The Article List Templates are designed to provide efficient and easy access to alternate versions of a character. They must only be utilized within the relevant intellectual property and must not contain any content that is not approved by the intellectual property's owners. If necessary, disambiguation pages should be used instead.
The Article List Template can be used to group multiple pages for various purposes, including the following:
- Alternate incarnations of the same character.
- Different time periods of the same character.
- Multiple versions of the same character in alternate canons.
- Verse pages for long-running series.
Guidelines
- In-universe clones and derivatives (such as merely being a family member) aren't allowed to be within an Article List Template for the given character, as they are considered to be their own individual characters without sufficient relation and similarity for the purposes of an Article List Template to the respective character. This also extends to alternate timeline incarnations.
- Alternate canon characters can be featured in Article List Templates, even if their alternate canon is regarded as an alternate timeline in relation to the main canon in question.
- Article List Templates may only be used for character profiles or verse pages. Other cases should rely on a category to group them and/or a disambiguation page on a case-by-case basis.
Instructions
Please follow the instructions below to create a template:
- In this site, navigate to
Template:Example
using the address bar of your browser. In the VS Battles Wiki, this would be Template:Example. - Click the "Create Source" button in the top-right corner of the page. This will open the source editor.
- A popup will appear, asking you to choose a template type. Select the "Navbox" option.
First Step:
When using the {EXAMPLE} placeholder in the sample code below, make sure that the first instance of {EXAMPLE} matches the actual name of the template. This is important because the line "Articles about 'CHARACTER NAME'" is meant to link you to the template when clicked on from a page with such a template.
For example, if you have named your template "Spidey", but the actual template name is "Spider-Man", you should replace the first instance of {EXAMPLE} with "Spider-Man". However, for all other instances of {EXAMPLE} in the code, use the actual name you have given to the template.
To ensure that the link to the template works correctly, use the following format: DISPLAY TEXT
Replace "TEMPLATE NAME" with the actual name of the template, and "DISPLAY TEXT" with the text you want to display as the link. By using the correct template name in the link, you will be able to easily access the template when needed.
style="color: white; background-color:#046FB1" | <center> Articles about <span style="color:white">{EXAMPLE}</span> </center>
Second Step:
When adding titles and their respective links to the template, it is important to categorize them based on their medium. This can be done by adding a line with the medium name (e.g. !Comics), and then listing the specific series or iterations of the character under that line.
For example:
Comics
Post-Crisis • Post-Flashpoint
Last Step:
- After adding the specific series or iterations of the character, you should then add the table separator " |- " to separate it from the next medium or era.
- Always remember to include the table separator " |- " after medium or era you add.
- Once you have completed adding all the titles and their respective links, add " |} " at the end of the table.
- Finally, select "save" to preserve the template.
Note: The first line and the last line of code should not be modified
Adding a Template to a profile
Adding a template to a profile is a straightforward process – just include Template Name in the initial lines of the profile
Code
This is how the template code looks like:

style="color: white; background-color:#046FB1" | <center> Articles about <span style="color:white">EXAMPLE</span> </center>
Pre-Timeline Split
Era 1 • Era 1 - sub 1 • Era 1 - sub 2
Post-Timeline Split
Era 2 • Era 2 - sub 1
Other
Era 3 • Era 3 - sub 1 • Era 3 - sub 2

<noinclude></noinclude>
This is what it looks like visually:
Please note that the text appears in red because it does not have a corresponding page in the VS Battles Wiki
For the sake of simplicity, you can also copy and paste the code of a preexisting navigation template and then modify the necessary parts of it for your new template structure.
