He walks, he stalks...
~ Original tagline of the first book he appeared in, Night of the Living Dummy

The dummy had wavy brown hair painted on top of his wooden head. I studied his face. It was kind of strange. Kind of intense. His eyes were bright blue — not faded like Dennis's. He had bright red painted lips, curved up into an eerie smile. His lower lip had a chip on one side so that it didn't quite match the other lip [...] He wore a gray, double-breasted suit over a white shirt collar. The collar was stapled to his neck. He didn't have a shirt. Instead, his wooden chest had been painted white. Big, black leather shoes were attached to the ends of his thin, dangling legs
~ Slappy's description

Summary

There once was a wizard in ancient times, a wizard that not only specializes in magic but also made toys, mainly dolls and ventriloquist dummies. Accounts of this wizard vary from story to story, some say he was a malicious warlock that only wanted to spread misery and chaos through his magic, so he put his soul inside a doll to become immortal. Some say he was misunderstood and created Slappy as revenge on the world, bringing him to life and putting his evil inside the doll. But regardless this wizard went onto create Slappy the Dummy, putting his evil and a soul inside the doll. Slappy, while the most magical and evil of this wizard's creations, was not the only living doll made by him, as he created his "siblings", Snappy and Goldie.

Legend says, that the dummy can be brought back to life if the dreadful words, "Karru Marri Odonna Loma Molonu Karrano" are read aloud, the dummy will come to life and turn the unfortunate souls around him into his slaves. This spell just so happens to be on a card, inside of Slappy's pocket. To this very day, Slappy continues to wander the Earth, spreading chaos, evil, and fear everywhere he goes.

Since his debut in 1993 at the end of Night of the Living Dummy, Slappy has become the most popular villain and the mascot of the Goosebumps franchise, appearing in more books and media than any other Goosebumps character. He received his own book series in 2017, with the title of Goosebumps SlappyWorld. He has also appeared in three episodes of the Goosebumps TV series and appeared as the main antagonist in the Goosebumps film, as well as its sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.

Resistance to...

Attack Potency: Street level to Wall level (Slappy in Night of the Living Dummy II was able to break open a locked door which would be this level. Can harm those who harm him. Can fight against Snappy in I Am Slappy's Evil Twin who was mostly unharmed by an explosion that destroyed a garage and being set on fire. In The Dummy Meets the Mummy he tanked a merciless beating from an enraged Arragotus, ultimately shrugging it off. Arragotus destroyed the skeleton of an enormous dinosaur in two punches, and earlier on in the book he easily smashed through the bottom of his stone sarcophagus from underground, which would be worth 4.088 Megajoules. Arragotus also clawed off a man's face. Slappy easily killed a woman, albeit off-screen. Can fight against Mr. Wood, who can easily overpower dogs, fight off a man eating plant, shatter human skeletons with just a basic slingshot and defeat the Haunted Mask while possessing a host. The Haunted Mask being able to tear off human skin, tear the wheels of a car off and survived the original horse attack that killed Laura. The Haunted Mask made Laura run away in terror, a ghost who can smash people through walls. Mr. Wood can also take hits from Captain Ben, who is a physical threat to Billy Deep, who survived an encounter with an enormous octopus in Deep Trouble. Deep also survived an attack from a shark, which tend to be these levels of strength. Mr. Wood can also take hits from King Tuttan-Rha, the "daddy" of all mummies and is able to tear into other mummies, meaning he would scale above Arragotus and King Buthramaman from Diary of a Mad Mummy, who once tore a man's arm off. Slappy in Slappy New Year survived going through a garbage truck. Knocked out Mary-Ellen in one hit. Is feared by the Horrorland Horrors, a race of monsters that individually can wrestle with Dr. Maniac, who is equals with the Purple Rage who can crack solid stone walls, punch holes into walls and bend metal poles with ease, tear apart wooden fences, violently shatter windows with just his toe and pulp/flatten humans which would require about this much energy. Dr. Maniac himself is implied to be a threat to werewolves, with werewolf officials urging every man, wolf and cub in Werewolf Village to hide inside their cottages but because he is camping outside the entrance to Werewolf Village. Werewolves in the Goosebumps verse can rip apart other animals like deer and should be comparable to actual wolves. An individual random Horror also presumably tore a human's head off. Slappy in Slappy's Nightmare was going to rip Jimmy's head off, but was interrupted which would also be this level. Can easily tear into human flesh. Slappy can easily floor grown men in one hit. Despite being a doll he has inhuman strength, making him comparable, if not superior to The Lord High Executioner, a large man who can burst open doors that are bolted shut), likely higher (Slappy is the one villain who makes other villains tremble with fear and it is said that there is no villain in the Goosebumps verse more feared than Slappy, implying that he scales above the rest of the villains in the series) | Small Building level (Should be far stronger than before. This transformation of Slappy was bigger than and casually destroyed a funhouse), likely higher | Unknown (Lacks feats of his own, but could be comparable to his base form), possibly Small Building level (Is the most powerful version of Slappy, which would include Slappy's giant version), likely higher. Many of his powers bypass conventional durability.

Speed: At least Superhuman physically (Can keep up with Mr. Wood, who can attack Barky, a black terrier, before they can react. A regular dog can react up up to 30-40 ms. Is regularly depicted as being able to move and attack humans before they can react. He and the other characters in The Streets of Panic Park managed to outrun the Menace, Byron and a mob of shadow people. Can keep up with Dr. Maniac, who can travel across cities in quick succession. Also scales to the Haunted Mask, who should be comparable to the other Unloved Masks, who are able to keep up with Carly Beth running for her life), up to Speed of Light attack speed with powers (Slappy can project his magic through electric currents and light beams)

Lifting Strength: Superhuman to at least Class 1 (Can overpower adult humans with ease. Is feared by the Horrorland Horrors, meaning he would scale above them. Individual Horrors can wrestle with Dr. Maniac, who is rivals with the Purple Rage who can throw people high into the air. An individual random Horror also presumably tore a human's head off. Slappy in Slappy's Nightmare was going to rip Jimmy's head off, but was interrupted), likely higher | Superhuman to at least Class 1, likely higher | Superhuman to at least Class 1, likely higher

Striking Strength: Street level to Wall level, likely higher | Small Building level, likely higher | Unknown, possibly Small Building level, likely higher

Durability: Street level to Wall level (Survived an explosion that destroyed a garage. Took hits from Arragotus. Survived going through a garbage truck. Survived getting beaten down by a horde of dummies. Survived falling from about 87.6 feet, which would be this level), likely higher | Small Building level, likely higher | Unknown, possibly Small Building level, likely higher. Many abilities of his make him harder to kill.

Stamina: Infinite (As a possessed doll, he doesn't have any organs or other biological parts that would require rest. Rarely shows any signs of fatigue, even while fighting with beings of similar power to himself. Can survive normally fatal injuries like decapitation. Survived having a moldy sandwich stuffed into his head and riding the R.I.P.P.E.R. DIPPER for two days straight) | Infinite | Infinite (Is a ghost)

Range: Below Average Human physically (While his size varies between book to book, he should normally be the same size as a normal ventriloquist dummy which are normally 38 to 42 inches tall), Several Meters when in giant form, far higher with powers

Standard Equipment: His chant and case

Optional Equipment: The Mind Stealer, The Diary, Joy Buzzer, Monster Blood

Intelligence: At least Above Average, likely Gifted, possibly Extraordinary Genius (Has been around since the 1800s, where even before he became Slappy he worked as a comedian, ventriloquist, a toy maker and even was a star on the London stage for his lifelike ventriloquist dolls. Is notably skilled in magic, often easily pulling off spells that vary in effects and how they operate. His proficiency in magic was increased after he got Goldie's book of spells. Is cunning and crafty, with him time and time again coming up with schemes to get his current owner in trouble practically on the fly, all while fooling everyone else into thinking he is a normal doll. Is skilled in manipulation, being able to trick both humans and monsters alike into doing his bidding. Can come up with insults that can "ruin anyone's day". Impressively stealthy, being able move so quietly that he is comparable to a shadow. Is one of the smartest villains ever to have set foot in Horrorland, likely making him comparable to the Horrorland Horrors, a race of beings that have the technology to create infinite-sized structure like the Deadly Doom Slide, computers that can digitally transform people into werewolves, coffins that can materialize spiders out of thin air among many more)

Standard Tactics:

Slappy across the books tends to torment and torture his victim by pulling pranks and evil deeds that the victim will take the blame for, essentially framing them. Using this approach, he uses his stealth greatly, sneaking around and pulling the strings behind the scenes all while fooling the loved ones of his victim into believing that they are the ones behind the trouble. He does this until his victims succumbs to him and become his slave. This is usually when the victim is unsuspecting of him, and does not use this in combat.

In combat, Slappy is quite the menace. Picking up a brawler-esque fighting style that he can be quite ruthless with, often leading to barraging the opponent with attacks of any kind (punching, kicking, biting, scratching, grabbing, etc), and often going for cheap shots (I.E. Punching the opponent in the stomach). Being a sadist, Slappy also enjoys attacking the opponent in ways that cause lots of pain, and given his inhuman strength, it can be overwhelming and/or debilitating. On top of this, Slappy tends to whip out his abilities to deal with the situation, and even abuses them from time to time.

Upon death, his soul will be unleashed. He has the same powers as before, but also gains ghost powers (Flight, Intangibility, Invisibility, etc). From this point, he would either possess the opponent or continue to torment them from beyond the grave.

Weaknesses: Slappy the Dummy is often cocky and overconfident. Saying his chant ("Karru Marri Odonna Loma Molonu Karrano") while he is awake can put him pack to sleep, and saying it backwards can put him to sleep forever. However he is able to resist this and can take control of another body if the spell were to work. Slappy also needs to actually hear the chant being said in order for it to work, and so much as a simple pair of earbuds is enough to completely prevent the spell from working. Is insane and sadistic, preferring to toy with his victims than outright kill them. Can be angered easily. Is a control freak. Despite being a doll, he can still be knocked unconscious.

Note: When it comes to instances where Goosebumps villains are overwhelmed/defeated by the child main characters, most cases are instances of Plot-Induced Stupidity as the majority of Goosebumps monsters express physical characteristics beyond that of a regular human, let alone a small child. So instances like these shouldn't be used when scaling and/or debating the verse.

Explanations

  1. Not only did Slappy impress Darkwell with his magical power in his first time using it, but has grown to where he became more knowledgeable in the same magic that Darkwell gave to him, with Slappy considering him a bad wizard in comparison. So even if the newer legend on Slappy's origin is accepted, Slappy would still have this ability as he should be capable of doing everything Darkwell can, but he would be even better at it.
  2. It isn't actually said that the Haunted Mask took over Slappy during this section of Enter Horrorland. We can tell that he isn't since, during the whole fight, we see skeletons magically reconstructed and sent to fight the player. The Haunted Mask has never shown any sort of Necromancy like this, but Slappy has in The Dummy Meets the Mummy where he gives life to a giant dinosaur skeleton. The Haunted Mask has never shown the capability of gaining the knowledge, and learning the abilities of those it possesses, so it can be further reasoned as to why Slappy is in control. That, and Mr. Wood was able to knock the mask off of Slappy's have with a simple slingshot.
