Sing KFH TR
The Beast: What is the name of your technique?
Sing: Do you want to learn? I will teach you.

Summary

Sing is the protagonist of Kung Fu Hustle, a loser in life whose ambition is to join the Deadly Axe Gang. When he was a child, a frivolous man told him he was a "natural-born kung fu genius", selling him a secret manual (mìjí 秘笈) on the Buddhist Palm kung fu technique for 10 dollars, which was only worth 20 cents. Using the manual, Sing studied Buddhist Palm, which was seemingly fruitless. Having attempted to protect a mute girl from a band of bullies, Sing was utterly beaten up and urinated. The girl tried to console him, but he ran off humiliated. Since then, believing good guys have the worst luck, he has sworn to be the bad person.

However, after joining the Deadly Axe Gang, Sing has a change of heart and helps the Landlord and his wife escape. As a result, he was brutally beaten up by the Beast for his betrayal. Sing awakens his inner potential after recovering from the verge of death and finally defeats the Beast and his entire gang. At the end of the film, Sing invites the mute girl into his newly opened lollipop shop and makes up with her.

Standard Tactics: Sing fights like the famous hero Bruce Lee, beginning, as Lee did, with Wing Chun stances, short-range punches, and low kicks, and expanding out to Lee's eclectic and distinctive blending of global martial arts with expansive long-range kicks and digitally enhanced aerial maneuvers. Using his own technique, "The Toe-Crusher" where he stomps on the feet of opposing mooks in rapid succession, effectively disabling their movement. He then moves into the flying “qing gong”—flying around the tenement courtyard and eventually into the heavens where he encounters an image of Buddha—and remembers the Buddha Palm he had rejected as a child. Descending from the sky while being set on fire, Sing releases extraordinary powerful hand-shaped shockwaves from his palms to crush the enemy under intense pressure. He is brilliant in combat and knows to retreat when outnumbered by enemies much stronger than himself. He is also very creative in battle, using knives stabbed onto his shoulders as mirrors for tracking enemies from behind.

Weaknesses: None notable

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Buddhist Palm: A technique where Sing focuses Qi on his palms then unleashes extraordinary powerful hand-shaped shockwaves that are strong enough to destroy a chunk of building or crush the enemy under intense pressure. The technique itself forms an important part of the Southern systems of Choy Li Fut and Hong Fut—the "fut," in each case, refers to the Buddha—which draws on "internal" exercise to muster "qi".
  • Techniques Mimicry: Sing proved himself to be a quick learner, able to replicate other forms of martial arts through his final fights, such as Coolie kicking techniques, Landlord Taijiquan, and so on.
  • Celestial Silkworm Transformation: Loosely based on the supernatural martial art in "Reincarnated" wuxia series, it allows the user to revive from the state of suspended animation and awaken a whole new level of inner energy mastery after being encased in a celestial silkworm. The newfound strength allows Sing to unleash all the martial arts he had learned previously.
