Intelligence: Above Average. Shira is very observant and analytical, elaborately deducing his enemies' strengths and weaknesses after seeing them fight only once. He has also shown his intelligence in other fields, such as being capable of creating powerful techniques of his own and is likewise very knowledgeable of other techniques and their specific mechanics. Shira is also a very effective teacher, training Gaara to rely less on his automatic sand defence and more on actual direct combat skill.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Silent Fist: The Silent Fist is a fighting style unique to Shira. With it he is able to render his movements completely silent by cloaking himself in chakra. Neji Hyūga likens its usage to the feathers of an owl, as the chakra cloak makes Shira's movements virtually unpredictable.
- Tenketsu Blocking Strikes: A taijutsu technique that allows the user to disable an opponent by performing a two-fingered thrust at the opponent's tenketsu. By doing so, the user can manipulate the flow of chakra within their opponent, similar the the Gentle Fist fighting style. Shira can unblock his opponents' tenketsu, with a single impact with his fist. While seemingly not hampering the opponent in any other way, it seems to prevent the opponent from initiating the surge of chakra when the Eight Gates are opened.
- Seven Heavens Breathing Method: A taijutsu breathing method that Shira invented by gathering up large amounts of oxygen to increase his lung capacity fourfold, he is granted strength similar to the Eight Gates, even including similar physical changes to the user. It is unknown if it comes with the same repercussions as the Eight Gates.
- Activations: Much like the Eight Gates, this technique has several stages or "activations" (活性, kassei):
- The first activation (第一活性, daiichi kassei) causes Shira's eyes to go completely white and he starts to give off a yellow aura.
- The second activation (第二活性, daini kassei) causes his body to expand slightly, his muscles becoming distinctly more prominent.
- The third activation (第三活性, daisan kassei) causes his skin to go red and appears roughly equivalent to the Gate of Life.
Note: Shira exclusively appears in the anime only "In Naruto's Footsteps: The Friends' Paths" arc and as such no canon Naruto characters can scale from him or the entire arc.
