Kojiro

Summary

Sasaki Kojirō is one of the protagonists of Vagabond. He is the legendary arch-rival of Miyamoto Musashi. Kojirō is a deaf-mute swordsman with a playful personality. From a young age, he was shown to be a sword prodigy who has a deep interest in the way of the sword, despite his adoptive father, Kanemaki Jisai, trying to prevent him from going that way at all cost.

Despite being deaf-mute, Kojirō was shown to be incredibly skilled with swords from a young age, for example, when he easily defeated dozens of bandits while sleep-deprived.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-B

Name: "Ganryū" Sasaki Kojirō

Origin: Vagabond

Gender: Male

Age: Around 28 years old

Classification: Human, Samurai

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Master Swordsman (Kojiro is a child prodigy in the way of the sword and created his own technique, later gaining a reputation as the greatest swordsman in all of Japan), Enhanced Senses (His eyes are much better developed than a normal human's to compensate for his lack of hearing. Likely has a heightened sense of smell. Often senses stealth attacks. Could even catch a bowl with chopsticks without looking at it), Analytical Prediction (Is much superior to Yagyu Arc Musashi, who can predict his opponent's moves. Is often said to "see right through people"), Accelerated Development (During fight, discovered a new technique of his previous enemy and utilized it without previous practice. Grew quickly as a child and mimicked his adoptive father's moves, and later quickly mastered them), Afterimage Creation (Scaling to Musashi, who can do them via sheer speed), Acrobatics (Kojiro is considerably dexterous, should be able to replicate Musashi's feats), High Pain Tolerance (Could move well after being stabbed in a leg, withstood many serious wounds Denshichiro has inflicted on him long enough to defeat him)

Attack Potency: Wall level (Is an arch-rival to Musashi Miyamoto. Superior to Denshichiro Yoshioka, who could slice a boulder in half with just his bokken)

Speed: At least Subsonic (Moved so fast that he could close a large distance between him and his opponent in instant. Did this without letting a ball touch the ground. Usually moves FTE in battle. Should be much superior to Seijuro Yoshioka, who slashed Musashi's forehead before Denshichiro even touched his sword)

Lifting Strength: At least Athletic Human (Should be comparable to Musashi Miyamoto. Could already as a skinny child swing large sticks at high speeds, as well as his ōdachi)

Striking Strength: Wall level (Same as his attack potency)

Durability: Wall level (Took attacks from Denshichiro Yoshioka)

Stamina: Extremely high. Battled all through the night without food, water, and rest with tens of opponents. After that, he encountered another group of men and defeated them while sleep-deprived and hungry. Can fight while heavily injured.

Range: Extended melee range with his ōdachi

Standard Equipment: An ōdachi named "Monohoshizao"

Intelligence: Average in general. Gifted in combat and sword art. Kojiro, despite his disability, is a phenomenal swordsman with a natural talent for fighting. As a child, he has replicated the techniques of his adoptive father, Kanemaki Jisai, and has cut off Fudo's arm, an infamous feared retired army general. Every time he has fought with Tenki, he has casually defeated him, and Tenki could easily defeat every adult in his village. As an adult, Kojiro's fighting prowess was feared and known all across Japan, gaining his reputation as "a devil" and an invincible fighter who was never defeated once, with his only rival being Musashi Miyamoto, another immensely skilled swordsman.

Weaknesses: Deaf, but his other senses are heightened to compensate, so this is not a huge disadvantage.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Swordsmanship: Ganryu - Tsubame-Gaeshi (燕返し) - Kojiro was renowned for his Tsubame-Gaeshi, or “Swallow Cut” technique, influenced by the movement of a swallow in flight. He first used this technique while fighting against Ittosai.
