Summary

The Saigyou Ayakashi (西行妖 Saigyou Ayakashi) is a youkai cherry blossom tree, and is the largest cherry blossom in the gardens of Hakugyokurou. It has existed in the Netherworld longer than the Ghost Princess, Yuyuko Saigyouji herself. Some of the spirits in the Netherworld remember the Saigyou Ayakashi having the most beautiful blossoms they had ever seen, but the cherry tree has not bloomed for ages. There currently seems to be a powerful seal within the Saigyou Ayakashi, leaving it unable to blossom at all during spring. Whether the tree is sealing something, or whether the tree itself is being sealed, remains a mystery to most outsiders.

Powers and Stats

Tier: Unknown

Name: Saigyou Ayakashi

Origin: Touhou Project

Gender: Genderless

Age: 1000+

Classification: Cherry Blossom Tree

Powers and Abilities:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Acausality (Types 1 & 4; Unaffected by Keine erasing the human village from history[1], despite the fact that youkai rely on the continued existence of the human village in order to sustain their own existence[2]. Exists within the Hakurei Barrier[3], which created a world with a different flow of time[4] and different physical laws[5]. Should be comparable to those who can act normally inside Eientei, which exists outside of time and causality[6][7]), Soul Manipulation, Mind Manipulation, Longevity (Youkai lifespans are longer than that of humans[8], and half youkai such as Rinnosuke seemingly do not age at all[9]), Enhanced Senses (Youkai can see better than humans in the dark of night[10]), Shapeshifting (Upon entering Gensokyo, youkai gained the ability to change their form as they please[11][12], often choosing to take forms more closely resembling that of humans[13][14]), Intangibility (Youkai can break themselves down into[15][16], or regenerate from[17][18][19][20], a sort of black mist. They are also repeatedly shown to form from this mist out of thin air), Incorporeality (Youkai are stated to be unbound from the confines of the material world[21], and are made of Spirit[22]), Regeneration (Mid-Godly; Youkai are able to recover from bodily destruction, despite being made of Spirit[23][24]. They can also quickly recover from their Spirit being drained or destroyed), Aura, Sense Manipulation, Fear Manipulation (All youkai possess 'youkai energy' that takes the form of an aura[25]. This aura can make one feel pins and needles throughout their body[26], can make one start to tremble[27], and is powerful enough to deliver these effects even while sealed away[28]. Successfully inducing fear in a target also allows a youkai to absorb their Spirit[29]), Aura Suppression (Youkai commonly infiltrate the human village without their auras affecting nearby people[30], and are[31] shown[32][33][34] to be able to[35] mask their auras from[36][37] Kosuzu, who can naturally detect such auras[38]), Empowerment, Resistance Modification (Youkai are empowered by human's belief in the rituals that can be used to combat or exorcise them, using them as a basis to solidify their existence and influence[39]. However, youkai are not bound by this, and can simply choose to be unaffected by such weaknesses on a whim, at the cost of the aforementioned empowerment[40][41]. Youkai are even further empowered by the light of a full moon[42]), possibly Empathic Manipulation (It's been stated that most youkai can control the world through the mental layer of reality[43], which moves alongside the spirit and determines the emotions of all living beings. However, it is impossible to know specifically which youkai this applies to)

Resistance to Madness Manipulation (Youkai can resist the effects of the true Moon, which can drive humans insane and kill them if they look at it), Illusion Creation (According to ZUN, youkai are able to see illusions.[44] During the events of Imperishable Night, all youkai noticed the moon was illusory[45]), Biological Manipulation (Youkai lack DNA[46] and brains[47]), Matter Manipulation (Youkai are described as a fluctuation and seem to be composed of different particles[48] ), and Disease Manipulation (As youkai are beings comprised mostly of spirit, they are unaffected by physical illnesses[49]), Subjective Reality, Transmutation, Transformation (Youkai were once bound to the imagination of humans, with the myths and stories about them defining their forms and characteristics. However, after moving to Gensokyo, youkai were unbound from this system, and became capable of changing on their own[50]), Power Bestowal, Corruption (Youkai are unaffected by the Hourai elixir, which grants immortality and taints the drinker with impurity[51][52][53]), Fear Manipulation, Sense Manipulation (Youkai are unaffected by the passive auras of other youkai), Extreme Heat (Youkai are not affected by heatstroke[54]), Unconventional Resistance to Necromancy (Youkai do not leave corpses behind when beaten[55])
