Summary
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (Japanese: るろうに剣心 -明治剣客浪漫譚- Hepburn: Rurōni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Romantan), also known as Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai X, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The story follows a swordsman named Himura Kenshin, a former legendary assassin feared as "Battousai" at the end of the Edo period. After the Meiji Restoration, he made a vow never to kill again and traveled around the country as a wanderer. Through encounters with Kaoru Kamiya and battles with sworn enemies who lived through the same turbulent times, he seeks answers to his atonement and how to live in a new era.
The manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump from April 25, 1994, to November 4, 1999. Studio Gallop, Studio Deen, and SPE Visual Works adapted the manga into an anime series from January 10, 1996, to September 8, 1998. Two OVAs were made in addition to the animated film. The first adapted non-anime stories from the manga, while the second was a sequel. Shueisha published Kaoru Shizuka's three official light novels. Many video games for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable have been released. In 2012, a live-action film adaptation was released with limited international screening.
Power of the Verse
Although a work of fiction set in the real world, the story includes fighters with superhuman capabilities that go far beyond ordinary humans. The top fighters peak at City Block level scaling from Itekura Byakuya, who blew up the peak of Mount Hakodate, and Saito Hajime, who survived it with non-lethal injuries. The combat speed, Supersonic+, scales from Seta Sojiro.
