No matter how a person acted in life, death’s a simple matter. Those who’ve accomplished great feats, those who’ve committed great sins, death treats them equally, reaping their lives in the same manner. In this world filled with inequality, it’s one of the few truly just parts of life. Precisely because they know that the end will inevitably come, the living must pursue happiness while they live. Therefore, I’m extremely satisfied with the low threshold of my happiness. And if I were Greed, it’s only because I’m always eager to appreciate what I do have. If I were never satisfied with the amount I have, instead wanting everything, I would never be happy in my life. But fortunately, I was born with a unique gift, the sensibility of finding satisfaction in simple joys. My satisfied self wants to hear it. Did you die satisfied? If so, congratulations on your death. If not, then I’m sorry for your loss.
~ Regulus after killing the Sword Saint

Summary

Regulus Corneas (レグルス・コルニアス Regurusu Koruniasu?) is the Witch Cult's Sin Archbishop of Greed. He is the most infamous Sin Archbishop alongside Sloth, as he is the strongest within the cult and the scale of his rare attacks is devastating.

Regulus was born over a century ago to a poor family, consisting of his father, mother, and two brothers. Regulus hated his family because although they were flawed people, they all tried to be kind to Regulus, which he only saw as pity. Regulus was eventually approached by the Witch Cult and chosen by the Greed Witch Factor, which he accepted alongside the position of Sin Archbishop of Greed. With his newfound Authority of Greed, Regulus killed his entire family for pitying him, killed everyone in his village who had ever looked at him with contempt, destroyed the town that had forced him into such a village, and finally destroyed the country that overlooked the issues in these towns. When he was satisfied, he married a girl from his childhood after killing her family, taking her as his first wife.

Despite his efforts to make her happy, his wife never spoke to him, smiled, or expressed herself. It was only when she killed herself that she finally smiled, being freed from her marriage and knowing Regulus would end up alone— leaving a scar upon Regulus' heart. After making her grave, Regulus began marrying any virgin woman whose face took his fancy, using his Authority to force them to submit; his wives were forbidden from smiling, could not speak unless spoken to, and were always at risk of being killed for upsetting Regulus. The number of wives he took numbered 291 in the modern day, although only 53 are alive today, the rest having been killed by Regulus over various trivial matters.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 10-B

Name: Regulus Corneas, Greed, Little King, Husband-sama

Origin: Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu

Gender: Male

Age: 130+

Classification: Human, Sin Archbishop of the Witch Cult

Powers and Abilities:

Resistance to:

Attack Potency: Human level (Regulus is a regular person without any combat power[20]), he can negate durability with Lion's Heart

Speed: Average Human (He is a normal person with no combat training), FTL with Lion's Heart (Using Lion's Heart, Regulus can free himself from gravity, air resistance, and conservation of momentum, giving him enough speed to shock even[6] Reinhard van Astrea)

Lifting Strength: Unknown (With Lion's Heart, he can bypass any object's weight entirely)

Striking Strength: Human level

Durability: At most Mountain level (Even without Lion's Heart he was able to survive 53 consecutive attacks[12] from Emilia)

Stamina: Superhuman (Even after being brutally struck 53 times in his vitals,[12] having every bone in his body shattered, and having his organs crushed,[8] his sheer hatred kept him going), Infinite with Lion's Heart (With his time stopped, Regulus' body no longer carries out physical functions;[8] he no longer ages and he never gets tired)

Range: Planetary (Regulus was able to throw Reinhard[6] all the way to the moon[12])

Standard Equipment:

  • The Gospel: A book of prophecies given to all members of the Witch Cult, it is a defective version of an incomplete copy of the Book of Wisdom. It is a guide to the owner's desired future, but its contents are vague and subject to change, the instructions being up to interpretation.
  • The Little Kingdom: Regulus' harem of 53 women, all of whom were forced to marry him. Regulus' wives have all had their spirits broken by Regulus, although they maintain a hidden hatred for him within their hearts. These women are Regulus' lifeline, as Regulus can only freely use Lion's Heart because he has his wives take his burden through Little King. Despite being his lifeline, he doesn't hesitate to murder them when they displease him.

Intelligence: Average (Regulus' intelligence is completely average, however his personality and power means he doesn't tend to use his brain. He is easily tricked,[6] he cannot understand the feelings of others, he twists logic however he pleases to justify himself, and he has no skill in combat.[6] He has only displayed a level of creativity in how he uses Lion's Heart when faced with an opponent he could not easily kill with a simple attack, as his "battle IQ" actually rises as he gets angrier[21])

Weaknesses: Continuous use of Lion's Heart can be deadly as his own heart stops when using it; however, it can be circumvented by merging his heart with his wives through Little King. Stopping all of his wives' hearts will make him unable to use Lion's Heart for more than 5 seconds at a time without risking a heart failure, and it becomes exceedingly difficult for him to use Lion's Heart on things beyond his own body. Regulus relies a lot on Lion's Heart: he is an amateur when it comes to fighting normally. Lion's Heart does not increase his reaction speed, meaning he can only travel in straight lines if he is moving at extreme superhuman speeds. Regulus has an insatiable need to assert himself, meaning he won't kill an opponent until he has "proven" his superiority, although he may still kill them as soon as he is able to if he flies into a blind rage.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

Authority of Greed: Regulus' Authority of Greed can be divided into two abilities— his simultaneously offensive and defensive time-stopping power: Lion's Heart, and his ability to share his heart to his wives: Little King.

  • Lion's Heart: This ability allows Regulus to stop the time of any object he is touching, be it dirt, sand, water, blood, humans, or himself, cutting it off from the world's flow of time and turning it into a distortion in space. Because the object's time is stopped, it ignores every law of the world, and is liberated from all concepts.
    • Defensive use of Lion's Heart: Regulus has Lion's Heart constantly active, keeping his time stopped. This temporal freeze on his body grants him total invincibility while only allowing his body to receive the force of attacks while remaining unharmed. However, he can consciously decide to become unbound by every law and concept in the world to become totally inviolable, and all objects that come into contact with him will be rejected by his body and completely destroyed without a trace. The crux of Lion's Heart's defense is that Regulus will not change; just as he wishes for total isolation and refuses to change himself, Lion's Heart makes it impossible for outside influences to change him on any level. Due to his body's nature of destroying any object he touches, he must stop the time of whatever he is touching so as to not destroy the object, including the ground under his feet (if gravity is affecting him). The invincibility granted by Lion's Heart extends beyond just making his body invulnerable, but also makes interacting with him in any form, such as altering his senses, impossible. Even metaphysical interaction with his mind or soul cannot be achieved. Lion's Heart's freeze of Regulus' bodily functions means he no longer has any need to eat, drink, sleep, or breathe, and he won't age or even sweat under its effects. The weakness of this seemingly perfect defense is that Regulus can only stop his time for 5 seconds before he must unfreeze it as he risks heart failure, but this can be circumvented through his secondary ability: Little King.
    • Offensive use of Lion's Heart: Regulus uses Lion's Heart on everyday objects such as dirt, sand, or pebbles, in order to transform them into deadly projectiles that pierce any defenses. Because an object under the effect of Lion's Heart cannot experience change or outside influence, ignoring the laws of the world, it will pierce straight through any object or person it comes into contact with: shredding buildings and people alike, turning them into rubble, and red mist respectively. Essentially anything can be imbued with Lion's Heart and used as a weapon by Regulus, even air from waving his hand or his own breath can eviscerate anything it touches. Regulus can even imbue people he touches with Lion's Heart in order to launch them away with impossible momentum, incapable of being slowed, leaving cartoonish person-shaped holes in whatever they pass through. As well as this, Regulus is free to manipulate objects imbued with Lion's Heart to his heart's content— turning water into a floating cube or a rising pillar, and manipulating the structure of buildings as if he's playing with a Rubik's Cube. The weakness of this seemingly perfect offense is that stopping the time of and manipulating objects outside of his own body is extremely difficult for Regulus to manage consciously, but this can be circumvented through his secondary ability: Little King.
  • Little King: This ability allows Regulus to merge a small pseudo-heart into the heart of any woman he considered to be his wife, acting as a parasitic organ. The woman's heartbeat would pump his smaller pseudo-heart even when Regulus' actual heart was frozen in time, freeing him from the 5 second restriction of Lion's Heart. Freed from this restriction, Regulus is able to remain in a permanent state of invincibility as he has been for well over a century, and he can utilize his many applications of Lion's Heart upon other objects without need for conscious control, which makes using his Authority far easier. In order to mitigate the risk of losing the effect of Little King, Regulus collected a large harem of women as his wives— currently numbering 53— and keeps them in secure locations when he goes out to fulfill his duties as a Sin Archbishop. Little King has an unspecified limit on its range where Regulus must be able to "feel his wives' love nearby", but it at least exceeds 100 kilometers as he is able to return from space.
