| “ | The face of the clown in the stormdrain was white, there were funny tufts of red hair on either side of his bald head, and there was a big clown-painted smile painted over his mouth. If George had been inhabiting a later year, he would have surely thought of Ronald McDonald before Bozo or Clarabell. He was wearing a baggy silk suit with great big orange buttons. A bright tie, electric-blue, flopped down his front, and on his hands were big white gloves, like the kind Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck always wore. | „ |

| “ | It was dark everywhere, and darkness was everywhere, darkness was the universe itself, but the floor was hard, like hard, polished rubber, and it was as if he was sliding along the rubber floor on his chest and stomach. He was in the ballroom of eternity, and eternity was dark. | „ |

Summary
Before Gan removed the physical universe from its core, there was a void of infinite width known as the Macroverse. Two beings were born there by the hand of the other; Maturin and the Dead Lights. Maturin was a benevolent cosmic creation force who came in the form of a gigantic turtle. The Deadlights, on the other hand, were a shapeless, malevolent force of destruction, a series of feathery endless orange lights that just wanted to be fed. At some point in this timeless history, Maturin would vomit up the universe before retreating into his shell, and the Deadlights would take advantage of this to search for food inside this puny egg. There he would find humanity, full of appetizing exotic fears and sensual fears, as an excellent source for food. The dead lights would turn themselves into reality, come to earth and hibernate during the ice age, creating a devastating meteor-like effect. Eventually, humanity would build the town of Derry on top of the crash site and wake up from hibernation every twenty-seven years to feed on Derry's resident mostly children, often taking the form of their worst fears to extract the most delicious fear from them.

Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Immortality (Types 1, 2, 3 & 9; Has been around for billions of years with no end.[1] Continued to live with a considerable portion of its skull being shot off.[2] Is a mere mask, a mirror for the Deadlights that is reflecting into our reality. The Deadlights exist beyond everything, the outlands beyond all lands.[1])
- Regeneration (Mid; Was able to regenerate after having a chunk of its skull blasted off by a handgun.[2] He was also able to regenerate after having its snout destroyed. Recovered from the first Ritual of Chüd. In The Dark Tower, every magical being has the ability to endlessly regenerate.[3])
- Shapeshifting (Partial conversion & Complete transformation; Pennywise's main ability is IT's shapeshifting, the capability of changing its body into anything from real life animals to fictional entities like vampires. Pennywise mainly uses this ability to transform into the fears of his victims.[4] Pennywise is capable of quickly swapping between forms, and can shapeshift specific parts of his body.[4][5][6])
- Size Manipulation (Is regularly seen changing its size through its shapeshifting, both large and small; Shapeshifted into Derry's Paul Bunyan statue, which stood twenty feet high.[7] And has shapeshifted into a school of piranhas. IT's spider form is fifteen feet tall.[7])
- Small Size (Type 1; Pennywise can shapeshift into small animals, like piranhas.[4])
- Large Size (Type 0; The Paul Bunyan Statue form is 20 feet. IT's spider form is 15 feet.[7][1])
- Vocal Mimicry (Can alter its own voice, and even mimic the voices of others; The best example of this here, where it took on the voice of a kind old lady, distorted it, and then shapeshifted into[7] Beverly's father, taking on his voice. Was able to mimic Richie's voice, specifically his impression of Pickaninny.[7])
- Biological Manipulation (Pennywise's shapeshifting also morphs its biology too. Pennywise can change his physical sex, being able to change from male to female at will.[7] Pennywise can also remove all biology from his form, turning into inorganic objects.[7])
- Age Manipulation (Pennywise can change his physical age too, morphing from small children, middle-aged adults, and senior citizens at will.)
- Flight (Can shapeshift into things that fly, like birds.[8])
- Enhanced Senses (Pennywise is capable of shapeshifting into animals, gaining their senses.[6])
- Multilocation (Type 2; Pennywise can appear as multiple entities at once; In an encounter with Stan, IT turned into a group of drowned zombie kids. Came to Eddie as a school of piranhas.[4][9])
- Underwater Breathing (Types 1 & 2; Can shapeshift into fish. Pennywise can also turn into creatures like the Gill-Man from The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Can turn into the shark from Jaws, "Bruce".[7])
- Inorganic Physiology (Type 1; Can shapeshift into living objects, such as a living plastic Paul Bunyan statue.)
- Bodily Weaponry (Can give itself sharp claws, teeth, stingers, legs, etc.)
- Immortality (Type 7; Can shapeshift into undead beings like zombies[9] and mummies.[10])
- Numbness Inducement (The spiderwebs of IT's spider form can also induce numbness upon physical contact.[11])
- Web Generation (IT's spider form is capable of creating vast amounts of web, and using them too. Uses this web to wrap people up in them.[11] Said web, like Pennywise's other bodily fluids, are acidic and burn to the touch.[11])
- Duplication (IT's spider form was able to lay thousands, if not millions, of eggs, that would latter go onto become other Glamours, even adopting the Pennywise form.)
- Body Control (Can change his eye color.[12] When in the form of Mrs. Kersh, he rapidly aged himself, making itself progressively more decrepit.[7] Can squeeze himself down small spaces like drain pipes.[13])
- Additional Limbs (Can give itself extra arms and legs)
- Elasticity (Can stretch out its own body parts, such as when it stretched its tongue to at least three feet while disguised as a leper.[7])
- Partial Intangibility (When transitioning forms with his shapeshifting, Pennywise's body becomes amorphous goo that is similar to wax.[5][13])
- Poison Manipulation (The fangs of IT's spider form are described as "poisonous".[11] The stinger of IT's spider form also leaks poison.[11])
- Illusion Creation (Alongside IT's ability to shapeshift, another power that Pennywise is known for and uses often is illusions. Pennywise can cast illusions of anything IT wants, tricking all of the natural senses. These illusions are so convincing, that it is nearly impossible to distinguish them from reality, especially since they are physical, thus capable of harming if not potentially killing IT's victims. Pennywise usually utilizes these illusions to install fear, and they can be extremely effective; Caused George to smell peanuts, vinegar, cotton candy, frying doughboys, wild-animal shit, and midway sawdust. Made Bill see a picture of George move its eyes, and made it spoke to him. Made Beverly hear the voices of IT's previous victims and made the entire Losers Club see things popping out of their fortune cookies, including eyes, insects, and blood. Made Henry Bowers see IT's face on the moon. Made the Losers see Stan's severed head full of feathers, before causing it to pop. Made a still picture about a parade move like a movie, even making it emit sounds like cheering and firecrackers. These illusions can also be very elaborate and thorough, as Pennywise was able to make Beverly's childhood home look normal and intact, when in actuality it was abandoned and in disrepair.[12][14][9][7][6][15][7])
- Reality Warping & Creation (Can make thousands of balloons, currents of blood, swarms of living creatures, etc.[16][9][5])
- Perception Manipulation & Invisibility (IT is capable of manipulating the perception of others, allowing it to choose who can see its actions, and IT itself; Caused a gout of blood to explode in Beverly's bathroom, splattering the sink, mirror, walls, and towels. Despite blood being everywhere, clearly visible to Beverly, her father wasn't able to see it, and proceeded to casually wash his hands in the bloody sink.[9] Pennywise can appear as two different entities to people. Here, it appeared to Richie as a werewolf, but to Bill, he was in his clown form.[2] Pennywise can select who is capable of seeing it. This is best shown here, where in a public library, he was unnoticed by everyone besides Ben, despite cracking jokes and laughing loudly.[7])
- Social Influencing (Deception & Instigating Fear) & Manipulation Proficiency (Pennywise the Clown is capable of inspiring ridiculous amounts of fear into his victims, to the point it is lethal, without using any of his powers; such as installing an unbelievable amount of terror within George, destroying his sanity in one clawing stroke.[12] Pennywise left such a powerful, lasting impression on the Losers Club, to the point that Stan brutally committed suicide after being reminded of IT.[17] Terrified Mike in his clown form to an unreasonable extent just by waving at him, causing his mouth to dry up, and presumably soiled himself.[15] Scared John Feury so badly that his heart gave out, literally killing him with fear.[18] Pennywise, just by uttering the word "Wait", caused Henry Bowers to freeze in terror. Causing his interior temperature to plummet to zero, and his veins and arteries to freeze into ice.[11] IT, when in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, can lure in children by charming them, and has done this to George before murdering him.[12])
- Morality Manipulation, Empathic Manipulation, Mind Manipulation, Memory Manipulation & Possibly Fate Manipulation (Somewhat Passive; Pennywise is constantly controlling the minds of the people of Derry for its benefit, either to further torment his victims, or so it can easily get away with its actions; Actively manipulates all of Derry, so its murders don't reach the wider public news. Pennywise is also the cause of all the terrible stuff in Derry's history, both explicable and inexplicable,[18] causing it to have a murder rate six times worse than any other town of comparable size, even when it is hibernating.[10] Made Beverly's dad attack her, attempting to kill her.[19] Made a nurse named Mark attack Mike while he was in the hospital.[11] Induced amnesia into the Losers Club members that left Derry, causing them to forget everything about their childhood, and struggle to conjure up the most basic of information. Pennywise himself said that he can make Audra forget everything[17][20] that had happened in Derry. In the Dark Tower series, it is implied that one's Ka and mind are the same thing. Ka is the destiny and future of an individual.[21][22][23])
- Dream Manipulation (Pennywise the Clown can give others nightmares, and enter them.)
- Teleportation
- Clairvoyance, Telepathy & Extrasensory Perception (Pennywise can read minds, and this is how it learns of his victim's weaknesses and fears.[4] Can telepathically communicate with others, and hear their thoughts.[7] Can detect and sense life.[11] Knew the names of all his victims before actually meeting them)
- Biological Manipulation, Organic Manipulation, Blood Manipulation & Disease Manipulation (Can create beings made of organic matter. Can create gouts[9] and streams of blood.[13][14] Made a fortune cookie give birth to a large, mutant fly, and caused it to run yellow-ish goo.[18] Not only created a new species of leeches, but leeches with insectoid wings.[5] Pennywise can open past scars after they healed, causing them to bleed and cause pain within the victims again.[19] Can give others diseases by pointing at them, such as prostate cancer and brain tumors. In a similar manner, Pennywise can also make his victims start running with pus, and threatened to do this with Richie's tongue.[7])
- Necromancy (Pennywise can bring back the dead in the form of zombies; Sent a zombie horde after Eddie.[7] Sent a zombie version of Belch Huggins to drive around Henry.)
- Animal Manipulation (Can create and mutate insects and animals.[18][5])
- Life Manipulation (Creates living beings like insects and animals. Brought several canvas squares to life, where they chased Eddie down.[7] With a touch, Pennywise can increase the lifespan of others, allowing them to live for hundreds of years.[20] Can manipulate Ka, which is the life-force of others.[21][22][23][24][25])
- Death Manipulation (Pennywise the Clown can induce death through physical contact, as shown when it killed some rose bushes by crawling through them.[2])
- Light Manipulation (Can project the Deadlights through itself, showing the viewer the Deadlights and submitting them to their effects.[1])
- Darkness Manipulation (Pennywise doesn't give off a shadow.[10])
- Telekinesis (Pennywise is capable of controlling things with his mind and has used this ability to flip through pages of George's photo album.[14] Telekinetically pushed away Eddie with a glance.[1] Locked a door without touching it.[9] Can cause things to suddenly burst without touching them.[11])
- Weather Manipulation (Can cause storms. Can flood Derry. Can reshape clouds.[1][20][4])
- Water Manipulation & Earth Manipulation (Indirectly caused a devastating earthquake that destroyed Derry.[20])
- Transmutation (Turned Beverly's house into candy, and tea into liquid faeces.[7])
- Spatial Manipulation (IT is capable of manipulating space itself; Warped the space of the Neibolt house to the point everything about it was just wrong. Creating strange angles, making it appear bigger on the inside, and making the space itself move.[13] Corridors within the house will randomly elongate, the ceiling will rise until it is no longer visible, and doors will change size, stretching like taffy. Stretched a staircase from originally at most three steps, to over a dozen steps.[9])
- Technology Manipulation (Can activate and deactivate at will. As seen here, he cut the lights out in Audra's bathroom right before turning a TV on without touching it.[26])
- Adhesive Manipulation (Can create a mysterious black sticky fluid.[13])
- Acidic Bodily Fluids (Pennywise's bodily fluids, like his saliva and snot, apparently burn upon contact, comparable to acid.[2] This also applies to other forms of mass that IT produces in other forms, such as the webs in its spider form.[11])
- Acrobatics (Can easily perform cartwheels, backflips, forward flips, splits, and other tricks.)
- Soul Manipulation (Implied to be capable of eating souls.[4] Can manipulate Ka, which encompasses the soul.[21][22][23][24][25])
- Power Bestowal (Gave some living canvas boards the ability to fly. Can increase the lifespans of others.[7][20])
- Self-Sustenance (Type 1; Can survive in the vacuum of space with no issue.[27])
- Probability Manipulation (Pennywise is the cause of all the terrible events that have played out in Derry's history, both explicable and inexplicable.[18] Ranging from a few murders, to giant disasters that end up killing hundreds, like the Ironworks explosion.[10])
- Mind Manipulation, Soul Manipulation, Life Manipulation & Fate Manipulation (Pennywise's mind is the very Deadlights.[1] In the Dark Tower, it is revealed that minds and Ka are the same thing, along with one's destiny. life-force, and soul.[21][22][23][24][25] As a likely Demon Elemental, the Deadlights should exist in a similar state of existence to the Beam Guardians, which are outside and beyond Ka.[23])
- Pollution (Can live in Derry's canal with no issue, despite it being so polluted that not even minnows can live in it.[7])
- Time Manipulation (Is described as timeless and Predates time.)
- Cosmic Radiation & Extreme Temperatures (Can survive in the vacuum of space with no issue, and survived re-entry.[27])
- Beyond-Dimensional Existence (Type 2; Pennywise is described as a terrifying spider that comes from beyond space and time.[1])
All previous abilities, minus Immortality (Type 9), plus:
- Non-Physical Interaction & Nonexistent Physiology (Nature Type 2, All Aspects; Pennywise's true form is an infinite, colossal darkness that envelops the region it inhabits[11] and is so deep that it even overshadows the deep emptiness where Maturin resides.[11] The place where it exists is known as the Todash Darkness; it is the embodiment of nothingness itself,[3] and by the will of the Divine Creator, it surrounds and covers the Prim Sea that devours the nothingness with its own infinity.[3] The Deadlights encompass a vast expanse of the Macroverse and exist as an eternal place.[11])
- Abstract Existence (Type 1; Pennywise's spider-like forms are his reflected manifestation in the physical world.[1] His true form is Deathlights, which goes beyond physicality, a deeper infinity in the macroverse.[1])
- Large Size (Type 10; The Deadlights are essentially a living realm that exists beyond the rest of the Dark Tower cosmology, with the exceptions of Maturin and Gan; Is described as a darkness beyond everything, all lands, even the Macroverse, the edge to absolutely everything. The Macroverse is a directionless void beyond all physical worlds, far beyond the Dark Tower.[27][1][11] The Dark Tower encompasses and holds the proper alignment for all of time, space, size, and dimensionality. Is described as a nightmare spider beyond all of time and space. Is described as "an endless crawling hairy thing which was made of light and nothing else."[1][28][22][23][3][21][1])
- Acausality (Type 5; Before the universes were created, only Pennywise and Maturin existed.[1] One of these entities had its own domain representing good, while the other, representing evil, was a living realm that encompassed the entire Deadlights. This realm completely transcends[1] the chaotic network of causality formed by the Dark Tower's multiverse[29] structure and can encompass[3] even archetypal cosmological pinnacle structures, such as the Prim Sea,[3] which contain the laws of the universe within them. These are elements consistent with Pennywise's eternal nature. It is stated that the realm in which Maturin resides shares no commonality with the cosmology of the universe.[1])
- Conceptual Manipulation (Type 1; Pennywise engulfs and encompasses much of the Todash Darkness, a place where concepts like Ka are sent.[30] Within its own reality, it has been shown to do anything it desires.[11] Ka is known not only to represent concepts like fate but also to embody a person's destiny and consciousness.[21][23][31] It is even a force vast enough to encompass archetypal structures like the Dark Tower, the source of all laws.[32] The Deadlights themselves exist within the Macroverse a realm where such concepts hold no validity and they encompass portions of possible worlds and possible stories.[11][32])
- Enhanced Mind Manipulation/Absorption & Madness Manipulation (Type 3; Looking into the Deadlights can drive the viewer insane, destroying their mind, causing all thought to cease. Looking into the Deadlights can even kill the viewer by shock, causing blood to discharge from their brain.[1] Can pull minds into the Deadlights, absorbing them.[1] In the book Insomnia, looking into the Deadlights is said to be capable of delivering a fate worse than death. If anything, death would be the best outcome for the viewer.[24])
- Incorporeality (The Deadlights are actual lights. Described as unshaped, formless, and non-geometrical.[1][11])
- Absorption (Mind; Can absorb minds into its mass.[1])
- Immortality (Type 5; Those in the void where the Deadlights reside are described as alive yet not alive. The Deadlights are described as a mockery to life itself.[1] Exists far beyond the Dark Tower, which encompasses the concept of life itself.[28][22][23])
- Regeneration (Mid-Godly; Every magical entity within the Dark Tower possesses an infinite capacity for self-renewal.[3]After the Ritual of Chüd, it was stated that both forms had died together[20], but in Insomnia, which chronologically takes place after these events, it is revealed that the Deadlights still exist and that beings like the Crimson King rose to higher hierarchies by relying on them.[24])
- Paraconsistent Physiology (Type 3; Pennywise's true form encompasses and devours a vast portion of the deep darkness of the Macroverse. Even the Dark Tower the fundamental source of all laws, the embodiment of the universe’s core principles, and the archetype that encompasses[33] [21] [3] and transcends life, fate, destiny, and all things, like Ka[32][21] cannot reach Pennywise. It exists among the highest orders of ontologies, as one of the two cosmic forces that form the infinite circle alongside Maturin.[1] It eliminates all distinction and transcends everything to an incomprehensible degree, it exists within its own reality, possessing its own domain, and holds everything within its mind.[1])
- Plot Resistance (Pennywise exists beyond even the archetypal structures that give rise to stories, in a way that is incomprehensible.[1][33] [21] [3] Stories also encompass those written in real life by authors such as Stephen King and others[21][32] [Marvel, Harry Potter,[34] Red Death,[35] etc.] Pennywise’s true form transcends the Short-Time, Long-Time, and All-Time hierarchies, which are the regular structure of stories, and surpasses them, existing in an unreachable level of nothingness, possessing its own reality.[24][1][3])
- Possession (The Deadlights are capable of entering our reality[36] by possessing a host, as established in Later..)
- Soul Manipulation (The Deadlights, through their possession, are capable of destroying souls.[36])
Attack Potency: Varies from Wall level (Tore George's arm off[12] with ease and splintered Adrian's ribs just by squeezing him.[16] Punched Victor's head off, and later peeled half of Belch's face off down to the bone.[19] Tore the heads off of Dawn Roy and Adam Terrault. Tore open Jeffrey Holly. Tore both of John Feury's legs off. Dismembered Jerry Bellwood.[9] Ripped apart a group of nine lumberjacks, including their heads, arms, and feet.[17] Transformations like his Paul Bunyan statue form should be this level from size alone, but in this form IT was easily able to chop a bench in two.[7] Ripped Eddie's arm off. Can shapeshift into a shark), Large Mountain level+ (IT arriving on Earth caused a cataclysmic impact that "turned a big hill into a doughnut".[27] IT's death in its spider form, the form that most closely resembles IT's true form, caused a massive earthquake that destroyed downtown Derry,[20] which has been calculated to be worth 2.6 Gigatons. Said earthquake was far superior to the 1960 Valdivia Earthquake) up to High Outerverse level (Pennywise's spider form is considered the closest approximation to its true physical form and is a manifestation of the Deadlights within our reality. This form is described as a spider that literally exists beyond space and time, possessing a structure that transcends the limits of three-dimensional reality.[1] And it is a form powerful enough to access the Macroverse, which extends far beyond the All-Time hierarchy.[11] [Statistics Values 1]) | High Outerverse level (Before the True Creator brought existence into being, Maturin and Pennywise were two opposing cosmic forces forming an abstract alliance in the void they inhabited.[1] Maturin was a benevolent, kind, and passive turtle who only observed, while Pennywise, his brother and counterpart, was a divine embodiment of evil and brutality, who enjoyed interfering in events through his clown avatar.[11] Before being defeated in the Ritual of Chüd, it was known that the massive cosmic horror had its own infinite realm called the Deadlights within the macro-scale void of Todash,[1] and that it stood opposite. Maturin is a universal and eternal force representing cosmic separation on the outer rim of the multiverse.[11][35] Although it is unknown whether IT is still alive, it is known that the Deadlights continue to exist even after the Chüd War. Even godlike beings such as the Crimson King must rely on the Deadlights for assistance in order to reach higher cosmic hierarchies.[24][Statistics Values 2])
Speed: Varies from Subsonic (Can move as fast as an express-train.[13] Was able to keep up with Bill on his bike with ease and regularly attacks people before they can react.), up to Massively FTL+ (Traveled from "outside of everything" to Earth.[27] [19,486c to 47,092c]. Can outpace the members of the Losers Club, who can react to and perceive things while being flung from.[11] Earth, to outside the universe, and into the Deadlights within moments.[11][Statistics Values 3] Bill and Richie can also perceive things while going so fast, that Maturin completely disappeared from sight within a single eyeblink.[11][Statistics Values 4]) | Immeasurable (Pennywise resides in a deeper void within the Macroverse, beyond everything.[1] This means that for Pennywise to reach Earth, it must emerge from this region and pass through the Prim and the Dark Tower. The same applies to the Losers' Club in terms of ability, but in reverse. As for Maturin's ability, Maturin is a cosmic turtle who holds all of existence, including the Dark Tower, on its back or within its mind). Omnipresent in its own reality. (Deadlights)
Lifting Strength: Class 25 (Usually rips people apart, both adults and children, with ease. This includes the head, arms, legs, and feet.[12][9][17]) | Immeasurable (It is one with the infinity of its own reality.)
Striking Strength: Varies from Wall level, Large Mountain level+ to High Outerverse level | High Outerverse level
Durability: Varies from Wall level, Large Mountain level+ (It crashed into the Earth like a meteor and survived it.) up to High Outerverse level | High Outerverse level (Immortality and Regeneration makes Pennywise far harder to kill.)
Stamina: Superhuman (In between its period of hibernation, Pennywise is active for about an entire year. During that time, it is non-stop terrorizing its victims through various means, hunting them down and devouring them. Can continue operating and living after being shot in the head, with a considerable portion of its head missing.[2]) | Infinite
Range: Varies from Standard Melee Range to Several Meters physically via shapeshifting; Tens of Kilometers with powers (Pennywise's powers extend all throughout all of Derry, an influence so absolute that it was like Pennywise was one with Derry. Existing everywhere in Derry, filling in all its hollow places.[18][19] Can cause disasters like earthquakes and storms that stretch all across Derry.[20][1]) up to High Outerversal | High Outerversal (Is capable of reaching those inside of creation from the void it resides, dragging the minds of others into the Deadlights.[1])
Standard Equipment: None notable
Intelligence: At least Gifted (Pennywise has been around for at least billions of years without end, and has spent a considerable portion of this time terrorizing the residence of Derry in-between its periods of hibernation. Thanks to this, Pennywise excels in mind games and trickery, using its vast abilities to establish as much fear as possible within its victims/meals, regularly utilizing vulnerabilities like fears, traumatic experiences, deceased loved ones, memories, and more to its benefit. Alongside this, Pennywise is meticulously manipulating all of Derry, Maine so it can easily get away with its kills, not only receiving little to no intervention from local authorities, but from the rest of the world, making so the wider public news doesn't pick up on Pennywise's heinous actions. Pennywise is also a talented schemer that is adept in manipulation, such as using the form of a clown to lure in kids like George, and convinced Henry Bowers to hunt down the Losers Club.
Weaknesses:
- Arrogance: Pennywise heavily underestimates humanity, believing them to be weak, and finds the idea of them being able to resist it utterly ridiculous. This leads Pennywise to toy with his prey, thinking they are unable to retaliate, and can be baffled if they do somehow manage to effectively fight back. As a result of the Losers Club defeating it when they were children, Pennywise entered a mild depressive state, questioning its own capabilities, and even making it feel afraid. This also can lead it to do illogical things, such as purposefully leaving ways for its victims to escape.
- Belief: Repeatedly, it has been shown that strong enough courage is extremely effective against Pennywise. With strong enough belief, one can make Pennywise physically weaker, and vulnerable to things that it otherwise wouldn't have been. The Losers Club have exploited this weakness several times against Pennywise, using things like silver ball bearings and Eddie's aspirator to combat IT. The most extreme example of this is when Richie was able to harm Pennywise with sneezing power, while doing an Irish cop voice, by simply believing that it can hurt IT.[2] (However, this could be a result of external help. Time and time again, it is mentioned that each member of the Losers Club was being benefited by some mysterious force.)
- Ritual of Chüd: An ancient ritual that is essentially a battle of willpower and belief against both the avatar, and the true form of IT. Firstly, a group of at least six people is needed to initiate the ritual in the first place. Ideally, you would want seven people, as seven has a special talismanic quality to it. These six to seven people must also have child-like imaginations. This can be easily found in actual children, but adults will have a far harder time to pull this off. The Losers Club were able to compensate for having jobs that allow them to be creative in their adulthoods. It is also possible for the ritual to be performed by a lesser amount of people, or even one person, it will just be much harder, and that individual would need a thorough understanding on how the ritual works. Secondly, one to two of those seven people must then wrap their tongues around each other. Both opposing sides must bite down on their tongues, and try to get each other to laugh despite the pain. However, another way for one side to win, is for the other side to bail out. Pennywise can potentially cheat through this thanks to its shapeshifting capabilities. But the collective belief of the castor and their companions can lock IT into a single form. Once that is done, both sides will become able to telepathically communicate with each other, their minds linked. The castor will also be able to read the mind of IT, which can cause good amounts of pain within IT. Then the ritual will actually begin. Once the minds are linked, the castor's mind will be separated from their physical body, and will be sent across an unimaginable distance towards the Deadlights, IT's mind. In this state, the castor can inflict pain onto IT's true form with their childish belief. As in, them believing in things like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy can deal real damage to the Deadlights. Bill and Richie were able to get IT to bail out of the ritual, and win, through this way. However, in this state, the castor is also vulnerable. Not only are they vulnerable to the Deadlights, but IT can potentially cause the mind of the castor to fly off away, forever separated from their body. If the castors succeed in completing the Ritual of Chüd, they will be able to kill off Pennywise, negating his Immortality and Regeneration. If the castors fail, Pennywise will remain, and will devour their Ka (Mind, soul, destiny, and life-force). Once all is done, the castors also need to actually kill Pennywise the Clown in order to finish him off. This is all just to kill the avatar, not the Deadlights themselves. This also doesn't prevent Pennywise from coming back, nor separate reality from the Deadlights' influence.
- Natural Laws: All living things must abide by the laws of the shape they inhabit. Despite Pennywise's shapeshifting ability, this applies to it.[1] Essentially, what this means is that if it takes a shape, he must abide by the limitations of that shape. If Pennywise were to turn into a fish, he would have to stay in water. This also applies to fictional creatures like vampires and werewolves. This also subjects Pennywise to pain, and death. Until its encounter with the Losers Club, pain was a foreign concept to it.
- Hibernation: Pennywise has a hibernation cycle that lasts for 27 years. During this time, Pennywise is vulnerable.
