Summary

Metal Sonic (メタルソニック Metaru Sonikku) is a recurring antagonist in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

It is an evil Badnik version of Sonic the Hedgehog and undoubtedly Dr. Eggman's greatest creation, built for the sole purpose of destroying its organic template; Sonic the Hedgehog. It was originally deployed during Eggman's operations on Little Planet, capturing Amy Rose to get Sonic further into venturing onto the planetoid. They would have their showdown on Stardust Speedway, where it confronted Sonic in a race and ultimately lost. It would be far from the last time that it would appear, however, and it would repeatedly return to challenge Sonic and his allies in servitude of the mad scientist. Modeled with extreme accuracy after Sonic, Metal Sonic is one of Dr. Eggman's deadliest creations that has occasionally required Sonic and all of his friends coming together in order to be stopped.

Metal starts with a Board-type Extreme Gear (Metal Star/Neo Metal Star). For a more in-depth look at the mechanics behind Extreme Gear, as well as each specific board and the nature of the subclasses and powers provided, consult this page.

  • Technological Flight
  • Enhanced Acrobatics
  • Air Manipulation (By performing tricks in mid-air, Metal Sonic is able to generate Air for his Extreme Gear to use for several purposes)
  • Transformation (With Gear Change, Metal can alter his Extreme Gear to use different Gear parts in order to unlock new abilities)
  • And several more as listed in the Extreme Gear page's universal abilities.

  • Statistics Amplification (Of Damage, Speed, Jump Height, Energy, Oxygen, Luck, and Event)
  • Greater Magnetism Manipulation (Certain Pets and Trails can increase the reach at which one attracts Rings and Chaos Orbs to them)
  • Probability Manipulation (Non-Combat Applicable; via the Luck Stat)
  • Power Bestowal
  • Greater Accelerated Development (Pets and Trails increase the Experience gained from Chaos Orbs and steps made)
  • Greater Inventory Duplication (Pets can enable characters to collect hundreds of thousands of Rings with every Ring collected)
  • Fusionism (Fast Friends can take up to 150% of all of your Pets' best Power, Experience gain, and Ring counts)
  • Aura (Several Trails emit an aura around the character)
  • Possibly Power Bestowal, Statistics Amplification, and Shapeshifting (With the Wisp Pets, which can potentially bestow their abilities upon their wielder[Note 4])

  • Attack Potency: Brown Dwarf level (Created by Classic Eggman to be able to match Classic Sonic in every regard. Regularly upgraded to avoid becoming outdated) | Solar System level (Capable of going through the same Adventures as Sonic in Sonic Adventure DX, can fight against Adventure Sonic, Adventure Shadow and Adventure Amy in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, was going to be used as Adventure Eggman's weapon in Sonic Heroes before he upgraded himself to his Neo form), higher with the Light Speed Attack (Like Sonic and Shadow, the Light Speed Attack allows Metal Sonic to achieve greater damage than he can normally do) | Solar System level (Copied all 11 organic characters[58] of their Data. Copied data of Adventure Chaos in a Chao and Froggy.[59] Leveled a large portion of Adventure Eggman's air fleet flagship to generate the materials to progress to it's next form), higher with the Light Speed Attack and Maximum Heat Attack | High Universe level (Remains a consistent rival of Modern Sonic and can fight with him evenly[60] during Sonic Rivals, after Sonic had defeated the Babylon Guardian) to Low Multiverse level (2 universes. Capable of harming Modern Sonic in Extreme Gear races during Sonic Free Riders, after Sonic had overcome the power of Erazor Djinn. Eventually 12 universes. Is stated to be Modern Eggman's ultimate creation after the creation of the Super Egg Robot. Far superior to standard Badniks, which Sonic and Modern Tails note to have gotten stronger over time.[61] Can fight on even terms with Sonic after his imprisonment aboard the Death Egg,[62] who can trade blows with Zazz and the other members of the Deadly Six.[63] Fought with Surge[64]), higher with the Light Speed Attack and Boost | Low Multiverse level (12 universes. Superior to his base form. Overpowered Modern Sonic after copying his biodata[1]), higher with his Boost, even higher with Chaos Energy (Used Chaos Energy from the seven Chaos Emeralds that Dr. Eggman gave him, allowing Neo Metal to reach his "peak form"; a state requiring Super Sonic to match his power) | Varies. Low Multiverse level (12 universes. When using the Master Emerald to transform, Super Neo Metal Sonic was overwhelming both Sonic and Knuckles at the same time. Used Chaos Energy from the Chaos Emeralds to achieve the transformation as well, making him far stronger than his peak), potentially Complex Multiverse level at his peak (6-D. Due to possessing the combination of Sonic and Shadow's Biodata, he should feasibly be able to reach the peak power that the Chaos Emeralds provide due to them) | Complex Multiverse level (6-D. After combining its Data with the power of Chaos, Modern Eggman believed it to be unbeatable by anything he could plan of, which would include a potential Final Egg Blaster and had doubts that the Chaos Emeralds could match its power. After being complete, it took the combined might of Super Sonic, Super Tails, and Super Knuckles to defeat it, with Super Sonic alone being unable to damage Metal Overlord, to the point Eggman described Sonic's solo attacks as useless. Teams Dark, Rose and Chaotix needed to buy time for Team Sonic to charge up with the Emeralds, an extreme rarity among even bosses fought with the super form. As such, Metal Overlord should scale to the highest echelon of super form power[Statistics Values 1]) | At least Low Multiverse level (Master Overlord is referred to as its ultimate form, and is stronger than Super Neo Metal Sonic)

Speed: FTL (On par with Classic Sonic in speed, raced with him at least two times), higher Reactions and with the V. Maximum Overdrive Attack (His V. Maximum Overdrive Attack increases his speed by four times), even higher with the Spin Dash (Metal Sonic can use the Spin Dash even while badly damaged,[65] a technique that allowed Sonic, Tails Nine, and Renegade Knucks to blitz a group of Eggforcers that were initially blitzing them[66]) | At least Massively FTL (capable of going through the same Adventure as Sonic in Sonic Adventure DX) to Massively FTL+ (can race against the likes of Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle). higher with the Light Speed Attack, higher Reactions, with V. Maximum Overdrive Attack, and the Spin Dash | At least Massively FTL+ (Copied the biodata of the four teams, making him superior to all of them[19]), higher with the Light Speed Attack, even higher reaction speed and with V. Maximum Overdrive Attack, Massively FTL+ with the Spin Dash | Massively FTL+ (Can race against the likes of Modern Sonic and Modern Silver[60]) to Infinite (Can race against Modern Sonic.[67] Kept pace with Sonic in combat and intercepted an attack from Modern Tails.[68] Caught a Cyan Wisp), higher Reactions and with V. Maximum Overdrive Attack (Increases his speed by four times), far higher with the Spin Dash, even higher with his Boost | Infinite (Easily kept up with Modern Sonic after he copied Sonic's data[1]), higher with the Spin Dash, Drop Dash, Super Peel Out, and Boost (Capable of using all of Sonic's speed amplifying techniques due to copying his Biodata; the Drop Dash is simply an aerial Spin Dash, the Super Peel Out is referred to as faster than the Spin Dash,[69] and the Boost is superior to even that) | Varies. Infinite (Overwhelmingly faster than both Base Modern Sonic and Modern Knuckles,[33] Super Neo Metal Sonic is empowered by the Master Emerald, and should thus be comparable (if not superior) to Super Mecha Sonic Mark II), potentially Immeasurable at his peak (Managed to harness Chaos Energy directly from the Chaos Emeralds and used it to enter a stronger state that contended with Super Sonic), higher with the Spin Dash, Drop Dash, Super Peel Out, and Boost | Immeasurable (Kept up with Team Super Sonic at their fastest) | Infinite (Superior to Super Neo Metal)

Lifting Strength: Class K (Comparable to Classic Sonic) | Class M | At least Class M (Has the biodata of those such as Adventure Knuckles, Adventure Vector, and others) | Multi-Stellar (Comparable to Modern Sonic and can grapple with him. Grappled with Surge before nearly overpowering her[64]) | Multi-Stellar (Held Sonic in a chokehold with one hand[1]) |Varies. At least Multi-Stellar, potentially Immeasurable at his peak (Scales to other Super Forms) | Immeasurable (Comparable to Team Super Sonic) | At least Multi-Stellar (Superior to Super Neo Metal)

Striking Strength: Brown Dwarf level (Can harm Classic Sonic) | Solar System level, higher with the Light Speed Attack | Solar System level, higher with the Light Speed Attack and Maximum Heat Attack | High Universe level (Comparable to his rivals during Sonic Rivals 2) to Low Multiverse level (Comparable in strength to Modern Sonic. Harmed Surge and Sonic with his strikes),[64][68] higher with the Light Speed Attack and Boost | Low Multiverse level (Left Modern Sonic reeling with a kick to his stomach and slap to the face[1]), even higher with Chaos Energy | Varies. Low Multiverse level (Super Neo Metal should be comparable to Super Mecha Sonic Mark. II at a minimum, if not being outright superior), potentially Complex Multiverse level at his peak (Neo Metal became amped with Chaos Energy that he harnessed from the Chaos Emeralds) | Complex Multiverse level (Traded blows with Adventure Super Sonic, Adventure Super Tails, and Adventure Super Knuckles as Metal Overlord[Statistics Values 1]) | At least Low Multiverse level (Superior to Super Neo Metal Sonic)

Durability: Brown Dwarf level, higher with forcefields (Fought against Classic Sonic during Sonic Generations) | Solar System level, higher with force-fields | Solar System level (Has the biodata of the four teams from Sonic Heroes) | High Universe level (Can take hits from the likes of Sonic) up to Low Multiverse level (Took several hits from Modern Sonic amped by Wisps before breaking down.[70] Withstood attacks from Surge and being swung into Sonic by her[71]), higher with the Black Shield (Withstood a blast from Giant Zavok[72]) | Low Multiverse level (Withstood a barrage of attacks from Modern Sonic and quickly recovered from them practically unscathed. Ate a kick to the chin from Sonic with little issue[1]), higher with the Black Shield | Varies. Low Multiverse level (Super Neo Metal Sonic is empowered by the Master Emerald and is at least comparable to Super Mecha Sonic. Peak Neo Metal Sonic can withstand a barrage of attacks from Super Sonic[30]), potentially Complex Multiverse level at his peak (Able to hold up against repeated attacks from Super Sonic within his boss battle in Sonic Speed Simulator[31]). Invulnerability makes it difficult to conventionally harm him | Complex Multiverse level (Even when incomplete, three teams of three characters each could do no real damage to it. After completion, Metal Overlord is unphased by normal attacks from Super Forms; only the Team Blast of Team Super Sonic could damage it, who even commented on its astounding resilience[Statistics Values 1]) | At least Low Multiverse level (More durable than Super Neo Metal Sonic but lacks the Invulnerability of a Super Form, allowing it to be damaged)

Stamina: Infinite | Infinite | Infinite (Copied Shadow's Life data,[73] which holds infinite energy genetically to never tire[74][75] | Infinite | Infinite (Powered by the Master Emerald) | Infinite | Infinite (Uses the Master Emerald as a direct power source)

Range: Standard Melee Range; Hundreds of Meters with his abilities | Tens of Meters; Low Multiversal with his abilities as Super Neo Metal Sonic and Master Overlord, potentially up to beyond Complex Multiversal with certain abilities as Metal Madness, full power Super Neo Metal Sonic, and Metal Overlord, with Chaos Control (Due to scaling to the maximum power of the Chaos Emeralds, Metal Sonic should be capable of replicating the feats that Super forms performed in the Solaris fight, allowing them to damage Solaris with their abilities (Solaris being a 6-D being[Statistics Values 1] and the Chaos Emeralds empowering users to destroy "everything", including Null Space, a realm outside of all dimensions)

Standard Equipment: Rings. The Egg Fleet as Modern Neo Metal Sonic. The Master Emerald as Super Neo Metal Sonic and Master Overlord.

Optional Equipment: Rings, Dark Rings, Item Boxes, Phantom Ruby, Eggmobile, Chaos Emeralds, Power Ups, Extreme Gear, Blue Devil, Formula M

Intelligence: Likely Above Average normally, at least Genius in combat (Possesses a personality and his own thoughts unlike majority of Eggman's machines, and is capable of matching the likes of Sonic, Shadow and Surge in combat) Gifted as Adventure Neo Metal Sonic (Gained full sentience and independence, after which it overthrew and kidnapped Eggman before setting off the entire plot of Sonic Heroes by manipulating 12 characters into chasing and fighting a false Eggman. All while copying their abilities and data over the course of their separate adventures, all to gain the power to conquer the world and defeat Sonic once and for all). Supergenius as Modern Neo Metal Sonic ( Possesses the intellect of Dr. Eggman[1])

Weaknesses: The V. Maximum Overdrive Attack runs the risk of overheating and disabling Metal Sonic's systems.

    Notable Attacks/Techniques:

    • Spin Attack: Metal Sonic rolls into a ball and rams nearby opponents as a concussive force or cutting disk.
    • Spin Dash: Metal Sonic rolls in place to charge up, then blasts forward at top speeds
    • Spin Jump: A variant of Spin Dash used to attack enemies mid-jump.
    • Drop Dash: Sonic stores up momentum while in mid-air and curls into a ball as he drops down to the ground, upon where he will instantly initiate a Spin Dash and rocket in the desired direction.
    • Homing Attack: While in the air, Metal Sonic performs a high-speed Spin Dash that homes in on the nearest enemy, striking them with perfect aim.
    • Jump Dash: When performing this move, Metal Sonic launches straight forward in midair with a burst of speed while usually leaving an purple or dark blue trail in his wake, before descending downwards in an arc.
    • Light Speed Attack: Metal Sonic draws in energy to charge up before rocketing off at high speeds to unleash a far faster and stronger Homing Attack. This technique automatically targets every enemy in the vicinity upon execution, allowing Metal Sonic to pull of a rapid onslaught of Homing Attacks to strike all enemies in range.
    • Somersault: Metal Sonic flips his body and attacks with his legs.
    • Boost: Upon hitting his top velocity, Metal Sonic is surrounded by an aura that distorts space and allows him to barrel through enemies without fear of reprisal.
    • Black Shield: Metal Sonic forms an octahedral energy shield around himself to block incoming attacks.
    • Ring Spark Field: Metal Sonic channels a radioactive force within him to create a harmful and nigh-impenetrable electrical field around himself. He then ejects two bursts of electricity to attack enemies.
    • V. Maximum Overdrive Attack: Metal Sonic overloads his circuitry to form a highly powerful energy field around his body before shooting himself forward at four times his original acceleration and speed.
    • Plasma Pulse Attack: Metal Sonic charges up energy in the compression chamber inside his torso before firing a powerful blue plasma laser from his chest engine
    • Emerald Dive: Metal Sonic does a small uppercut before levitating into the air and diving straight into the opponent in a similar fashion to a torpedo, all the while being in Hyper Mode.
    • Chaos Control: Metal Sonic uses Chaos Energy to control the fabric of time and space. He can use this to manipulate time by slowing or stopping it and inter-dimensional travel. The magnitude of this power depends on the amount of Chaos Emeralds Metal Sonic has with him.
    • Chaos Spear: Metal Sonic channels raw chaos energy as a form of electricity into a spear-shaped energy construct and then fires it as an energy bolt. Metal Sonic is capable of hurtling a cascade of Chaos Spears.
    • Sonic Boom: Metal Sonic launches himself forward with a burst of speed so great that it breaks the sound barrier before continuing to move at a steady pace. While active, the Sonic Boom grants Metal Sonic increased speed and invulnerability, allowing him to damage enemies and opponents with mere physical contact.
    • Copycat: Metal Sonic scans the opponent, flawlessly replicating their abilities and skills, and adding their abilities onto his skillset. This can range from the opponent's fighting skills and conventional superpowers, to abilities as complex as Space-Time Manipulation or telepathic abilities.
    • ESP: Metal Sonic unleashes a psychokinetic wave that induces vertigo in his opponents.
    • Chroma Camo: Metal Sonic is able to render his body invisible and intangible, as well as increasing his speed.
    • Bat Guard: Metal Sonic releases a swarm of artificial bats that act as a defensive barrier and projectiles. They will explode upon impacting an enemy.
    • Hammer Punch: Metal Sonic strikes the ground with enough force to trigger a large tremor throughout the area. Enemies within his radius, either in the air or on the ground, will be disoriented and stunned.
    • Knuckle Slam: Metal Sonic strikes the ground with enough force to trigger fiery shockwaves all around him.

    Pets: Also referred to as Friends, these creatures will hover closely behind their wielder that typically focus on granting benefits on several stats;

    • Experience (The amount of experience gained when defeating an opponent)
    • Rings (the amount of Rings gained per a single Ring)
    • Damage (the amount of damage dealt to bosses and powerful enemies).
    • Stamina (The amount of energy consumed when Boosting)
    • Air (The amount of time possible to spend underwater without air)
    • Luck (Non-Combat Applicable).

Up to 3-5 Pets can be equipped at a single time, stacking the benefits from each.

For a full reference of different Pets and their impact, see here.

    Trails: Trails are equippable items that range from Level 1 to Level 25 at maximum. They typically focus on increasing three statistics, but different Trails offer benefits that include other statistics. Like Pets, these include altering;

    • Experience
    • Rings
    • Damage
    • Stamina
    • Air

Unlike Pets, only one trail can be equipped at any given time.

For a full reference of Trails and their impact, see here.

Feats: In base form, Metal Sonic is one of Sonic's most formidable enemies in his universe. Metal Madness was able to easily take on all the base forms, while Metal Overlord had to be defeated by the Super Forms of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

    Notes
    1. Rebirths are canonical, as Dr. Eggman accidentally rebirthed the entire timeline by using Rebirth Energy.
    2. Despite gameplay containing a certain character, this is universally true of all playable characters in Sonic Speed Simulator.
    3. This Sonic Channel story is linked to Windii's translation. For the official script, see here.
    4. The Possibly rating indicates the possibility of the Wisp bestowing their abilities upon the user, and not the abilities themselves being categorized as a possibility. As such, this extends to all Wisp pets from Sonic Speed Sim.
