Summary

The Mars People are a major antagonist faction in the Metal Slug franchise. They are a race of belligerent aliens that tried to conquer the Earth in two occasions. They are highly manipulative and prefer to make the native inhabitants of a planet wage war with each others, before launching a direct attack.

During the events of Metal Slug 2, they allied with the Rebel Army against the Regular Army and provided them troops and technological help, just to eventually betray them. Unfortunately for the aliens, Marco and his comrades managed to fight back their forces, and a rebel soldier gave his life in a kamikaze attack in order to compromise their mothership and force it to retreat. They returned in the next war, when it was revealed that one of them replaced General Morden and triggered another war, in a second attempt to make the two armies destroy each other. Their ultimate defeat arrived when the protagonists boarded the mothership in space and made it collapse, then killing their leader Rootmars in a following battle.

Despite all of this, the Mars People and the rebels somewhat got over everything and forged a sincere alliance. After that, the two collaborated with the Regular Army to face a common threat, the Invaders. The Mars People were last seen saving Morden and some of his soldiers when they have been apprehended at the end of Metal Slug 7.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-C to 9-A possibly higher, Varies with clones

Civilization Type: At least Post-Industrial Civilization, possibly Planetary Civilization

Name: Mars People, Martians

Origin: Metal Slug

Classification: Hierarchy for the military, unknown for the entire civilization

Kardashev Level: Type 0

Age: At least more than 4 years, likely much more

Population: Unknown, likely hundreds of thousands or even much more in their totality. Their soldiers are enough to pose a threat to earthling forces such as the Rebel Army and planned to conquer the planet, likely with the intent of moving there.

Territory: At least part of their home planet, which might be Mars, and possibly other planets they conquered. Some areas of Earth held in conjunction with the Rebel Army.

Technology/Abilities: Peak to Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Weapon and Vehicular Mastery, Flight, Spaceflight (Able to perform interplanetary travels with the Rugname. Minor spacecraft can easily fly and fight in space), Energy Projection (Via energy weapons), Preparation, Social Influencing and Stealth Mastery (Can prepare their forces before invading a planet. Orchestrated plans to manipulate the Rebel Army, pretending an alliance and triggering two wars with the Regular Army in order to weaken both factions. One of them shapeshifted into Morden and controlled the Rebel Army during the war. Some of their UFOs could be seen scouting the Earth during the first war), minor Body Control (They are able to retract their tentacles to perform long jumps and slowing their descent while in the air), Inorganic Physiology (Type 2 for vehicles and robots), Danmaku (When in large numbers), Cyborgization (Able to transplant organic brains inside machines), limited Gravity Manipulation (Via the tractor beam of the Dai-Manji), Large Size (Type 0 [Mars Mecha, Fake Rootmars, Rootmars] and 1 [Rugname]), Teleportation (Via Tiny UFO), Self-Destruction and Surface Scaling (Via Hopper Mecha), Electricity Manipulation (Some of their weapons seem to have electrical properties. They possess a capsule to electrocute their victims), pseudo Water Manipulation (The Mars Mecha can release a slime-like substance for offensive purposes), Duplication (Able to create duplicates of their enemies with the Clone Incubator), Acrobatics (Clones can leap into the air and perform multiple spins), Blood Manipulation (Corrupted clones can release huge streams of blood from their mouth), all of Rootmars' abilities

Attack Potency: Street level to Small Building level, possibly Higher (Foot soldiers and war vehicles are comparable if not superior to those of the Rebel Army. The Mini-UFOs fought on seemingly equal ground with human airplanes and the standard UFOs destroyed several space pods in a single shot. Some of their weapons can match or surpass those of the Regular Army. The Dai-Manji was able to obliterate Morden's Space Tank in a single shot. Rootmars reaches these levels) Varies with the Clone Incubator

Power Source: Unknown

Industrial Capacity: Unknown, likely high given the number of forces deployed during both wars. They were able to launch a second attack to Earth less than a year after losing in the second Modern War. The Clone Incubator can generate dozens of clones in a fast rate. Higher after reaching a true agreement with the Rebel Army, given the mutual help.

Military Prowess: Unknown in their totality, at least hundreds of soldiers, vehicles and mechas during a single attack, as seen at the end of the second and third Modern War. Despite the inferior numbers, they were powerful enough to pose a serious threat to the Rebel and Regular Army, and they would have very likely conquered the Earth if it weren't for the protagonists. They completely annihilated all the space pods (but that of the protagonists) sent to battle them in space and the Rugname was making short work of the rebels on Earth.

Notable Individuals:

Weaknesses: They are terrorized by the Invaders, as they are their natural predators.

Forces:

  • Martian Soldiers: The infantry of the Mars People. They are equipped with a gun that fires spore-like projectiles and can use their tentacles to jump large distances and descend slowly while in the air. There are three types of them (gray, brown and white) with the color determining rank, strength and durability. One of them was able to fire a ring-like energy beam that trapped one of the heroes.
  • Ring Laser Mecha: A robotic unit controlled by an organic brain. It possesses mechanic arms to maneuver itself and can fire ring-like energy beams from its head.
  • Hopper Mecha: Small robots that are sent in large numbers against the intruders who enter Rugname. They can crawl on ceilings and walls, exploding when in proximity of an enemy.
  • Mars Mecha: A giant version of the Hopper Mecha. This robot walks over the enemy and drops bouncing spheres made of a slimy substance.
  • Clone Incubator: A device that can create clones of the host that has been put inside it. It is filled with a liquid that keeps the victim in stasys, while the clones are expelled from the tubes around. The incubator can also produce copies of the hosts' weapons. It is higly resistant, but if destroyed, most of the clones will instantly die.
  • Clones: Duplicates created by the Clone Incubator. They are made with an unknown green substance, that melts when killed. They seem to be a bit more durable than the original, but aren't comparable to it in intelligence or skill. Nonetheless, they possess some of their abilities and their weapons. If the Clone Incubator is destroyed, most of them will die, while a few will corrupt and become similar to zombies. While in this state, they are very slow, but can fire a massive stream of blood from their mouth.
  • Tiny UFO: Small drones able to fly in space, fire energy projectiles from their antennae and even teleport. They come in two different shapes and are usually seen in groups of five.
  • Mini-UFO: Small vehicles driven by a Mars Person. They are higly maneuverable and can fly both in space in the air. Their main weapon consists in a laser beam fired from the bottom.
  • UFO: Another type of spacecraft, able to fly both in space and in the air. They fire an energy beam from the bottom and are mostly seen in battles that take place in outer space.
  • Dai-Manji: The second largest type of spacecraft. They were adorned with the logo of the Rebel Army, in order to better pretend an alliance with them. It is heavily armored and houses many Mini-UFOs that can come out during a battle. Its bottom hatch can open and fire a large electric beam or a series of energy spheres used to carpet bomb the enemy. It also possesses a tractor ray used to pick up its hosts. When damaged enough, it can be attached to the bottom of the Rugname and used as a cannon to shoot a massive energy beams.
  • Rugname: The mothership of the Mars People and their HQ during an invasion. This massive spacecraft hosts the troops, the majority of the vehicles and other facilities such as the laboratory.
  • Fake Rootmars: A copy of Rootmars that has the purpose of driving and sustain the Rugname. It is unknown if it is a biological being or a disguised machine, but it can fire large energy spheres at the enemies who come close to it. If destroyed, the entire Rugname will start to collapse.
