~ The Man with No Name |
Summary
The Man with No Name is the protagonist of most of the Dollars' series, at times a co-protagonist with a few others. A lonely, enigmatic man, the Man with No Name is a bounty hunter that is always seeking, if not a target, then an opportunity to make money. While he has very few scruples and doesn't bat an eye to murder, killing, lying, scamming, and ruthlessness to achieve his goals, he is not as much evil as he is amoral - he does not inflict harm on the innocent nor does he enjoy human suffering, and often shows sympathy to others. His schemes and attempts to get money are often directed at criminals, free opportunities, or petty crime, never stooping so low as to assault or rob the innocent, for example.

- Weapon Mastery (The Man with No Name's most notable ability is his mastery of guns, more precisely of revolvers; Among his most impressive feats, he has repeatedly intentionally missing several shots from afar by exactly two inches each[3], hitting a target on the same spot at a distance of 30 feet while still recovering and quickfiring[4], taking off a man's hat with a shot and repeatedly shooting it mid-air to send it farther and farther away[5], is fully capable of hitting Tuco in the eyes with his revolver, despite being at a range on the upper limit of a rifle's range[6] and even when acting out of sheer reflex and desperation he still managed to cut a dynamite stick's fuse in mid-air as it was hurled at him; He is also capable of hurling projectiles as heavy as a machete with precision[7] and he is a very good rifleman; Even when forced in terrible situations, he can get the most out of it - after noticing that two bandits were diving by the corner of his eye, he immediately leaped, grabbing a falling revolver in mid-air with one hand, while wielding a rifle in the other, and precisely hits both bandits, all in an instant[8])
- Stealth Mastery (Frequently sneaks up on people without them noticing; explicitly moves without making a noise, even as he climbs a house[9]; A person needs only to lower their head for the Man with No Name to disappear, unnoticed[10])
- Social Influencing (Has a naturally intimidating appearance, frightening even hardened criminals[11] and can stare down people with such coldness that they hesitate[1]; Knows how to deliberately provoke people into rash action[12] and how to distract them[13]; Apachito considered him good at talking[14], and can perfectly act and lie as to make an injured man believe that his leg was broken[15])
- Enhanced Senses (Has extremely acute hearing, capable of picking out sounds that the average person cannot[16]; Capable of precisely tracking a far-off hiding spot, deep within a maze, using only the wind that brings the faintest smell of roasting meat[17]; Has the eyesight of a hawk, capable of discerning far-off horsemen[18]; Has a very good general instinct for danger[10], intuition[19] and perception[20]; Out of a sheer instinct of danger, without even looking, he shot a man behind him straight between the eyes[1])
- Tolerance to Pain Manipulation (Often endures torture, injuries and the like without complaining or letting it inhibit his capabilities; Most notably, endured being covered and bitten by fire ants without letting out a sound despite it hurting like being written on with fire[18])
- Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Despite drinking a lot more than everyone else in a party, he was, by far, the least drunk of all of them, ending up just a little buzzed by it[21])
Attack Potency: Street level (Breaks the structure of a window and a cabinet[7], easily knocks out[9] strong men[12] and breaks bone[22] with his punches), up to Wall level with weapons (Can get dynamite in bundles and sticks quite readily when needed; Can hurl a machete with enough strength that the man hit by it is hurled into the air[7] and his guns can knock people into the air and away with the force of their shots; [1])
Speed: Athletic Human with Subsonic combat and reaction speed (Runs quicker than most men, but not significantly so; Repeatedly[1] does[23] feats[24] such as[5] quickdrawing[25] and shooting[26] far faster[27] than his[28] opponents[29], even those who were already pressing the trigger and in groups; In a blur of motion, he could spin and throw a machete straight into a man's heart before said man, who was already aiming and behind him, could shoot[7], his hands move as a blur[30] even when[29] quickdrawing[31], so much so that he can do such a feat rather casually[32]; Successfully pushed a man out of a bandit's aim at the same time as the said bandit shot at him[16])
Lifting Strength: Peak Human (Repeatedly and easily throws[28] and lifts[25] big men, at times even hurling them into the air[22] or with a single hand[33], most notably lifting with a single hand and ease a very large, muscular and fat man[34]; Breaks a man's wrist by simply gripping it[2] and could've broken a man's ribs with a bearhug[1]; Can easily overpower the mutual grasp of two strong men attempting to immobilize him, eventually doing so; Briefly lifted a 200-pound boulder[35])
Striking Strength: Street level
Durability: Street level (Survives a severe beating from a a strong man wielding knuckledusters[36], endures bone-breaking blows from Pinky[18] and high-speed falls from a speeding horse, followed by a horsekick[27], quickly recovered from having a cannonball hit the building he was in, making the entire thing collapse with him still inside[37] and being struck with a high-pressure wave of water from a leaked dam[38])
Stamina: Peak Human (Can fight competently when wounded and still recovering from exhaustion[39]; Endures travelling for an entire day with no problem, while his companion was extremely exhausted[40]; Without water, food or even a hat, endured marching through 30 miles of a desert until he finally collapsed of exhaustion, something that would have killed a normal man[23])
Range: Standard Melee Range, Hundreds of Meters with guns
Standard Equipment: The Man with No Name carries with himself a pair of revolvers (during the war he carried a Colt 1851 Navy Pistol and later a Colt Single Action Army both having a rattlesnake grips) and a knife at all times, and often has a rifle (often a Winchester rifle or a Spencer M1860 rifle) close by. He always keeps his guns in perfect condition[41], and he has several[42] derringers[43] hidden within his clothing. He carries with himself a healthy stock of ammunition, and also usually has access to a variety of survival supplies, such as dried food and water.
Optional Equipment: At times, the Man with No Name has carried dynamite for specific purposes, and given preparation time, he can quickly cobble up a surprising amount of things with whatever resources he can put his hands on, such as improvising armor constructed from the metal of a mining cart, tough enough to block a fusillade of bullets from rifles and revolvers with no damage[44].
Intelligence: Gifted (Despite appearances, the Man with No Name is famously cunning and capable; He is an exceptional gunslinger, fighter and tracker[45], he is capable of formulating complex plans[46] and he always had ease at learning new skills[27]; He can keep track of the bounty of every single person he hunts and add up their values similarly to a cash register[47], cheat at cards extremely quickly and with a single hand, predict someone's behaviour with accuracy for several days and plan strategies around that[5], speak apache[18] and Spanish[48], prepare for and rationalize how the presentation order of a show house should be[32], among several other skills, with him having minute amounts of knowledge in topics such as mining, first aid, crime, farmwork and improvisation; His most notable traits, across all books, is how easily and seemingly effortlessly manipulates everyone in the plot, at least on the long term, to things end up on a positive outcome for himself, in the process having to predict the behaviour and interactions of several different people over extended periods of time)
Weaknesses: Standard human weaknesses
Notable Techniques:
- Fanning: The Man with No Name's most notable ability with his revolvers is how he fires while fanning the revolver. By fanning the revolver while holding the trigger, he can massively increase the firing speed as it is limited only by how fast he can fan it. While that technique is often regarded as something to be done only for show and terribly imprecise, the Man with No Name is capable of achieving perfect accuracy despite the technique's failings. He can fire at a rate comparable to a gatling gun, and yet be so precise as to hit all six shots on the same target[32], and he explicitly retains the same accuracy as when he aims normally, with just the added rate of fire[20].
