What a pointless thing you've done... Those who know my research... Will carry on my legacy...
~ Lucilius to Lucifer, upon being decapitated for his crimes in the Fallen Angel Rebellion

You'd put this world's corrupted fate back on its rails, not knowing or caring where they lead. There is no destination. No "happy end". All that awaits is chaos - life's eternal battlefield... Is that truly what you want?
~ Lucilius to the Singularities, doubting and questioning their motives

I had hoped you'd see reason and accept the inevitable. But it seems all you understand is violence. The laws of nature, the oppression of causality... While these fetters exist, we will never be free.
~ Lucilius to the Singularities, who chose to fight despite the overwhelming odds

Why struggle to stay afloat on the waves, poised on uncertainty? Why be a jester in someone else's play? Why let the gods have the last laugh? Why live in a cage?
...This world was made to rot - to fall into strife. If you wish to deter conflict, the answer is simple: end everything... True peace is to be found in the silent depths.
~ Lucilius, on his questions and answers
What does the future hold... but disappointment?
~ Lucilius

Summary

Lucilius is the main antagonist of the What Makes the Sky Blue storyline in the Granblue Fantasy browser game, the main antagonist of Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising fighting game storyline, and an optional endgame superboss in the Granblue Fantasy Relink action RPG. Lucilius was an Astral that used to be the head researcher in the Astral Realm society, and is an originally inferior clone created by the Astral God from the template of Helel ben Sahar — the Speaker of Dawn, to be one of many Astrals to populate her Realm. His unequivocal genius and transcendent will led to many breakthroughs that would shake up the world, most notably his invention and creation of the original Primal Beasts — the Angels. But as his research into evolution progressed, he drew his own conclusions about the Gods' designs and planned the Fallen Angel Rebellion to bring about his Grand Finale — a plan intended to end the world. Though rarely moved by emotion, he harbors a centuries-old hatred for the gods, seeing them as tyrants who imposed order on the boundless universe. For him, there is only one state of true freedom — nothingness.

Lucilius' initial plan during the Fallen Angel Rebellion two thousand years ago was thwarted by his own magnum opus creation — the Supreme Primarch Lucifer, created in his own image and granted complete free will, who 'betrayed' and decapitated his creator. However, this wasn't enough to rid the world of Lucilius, as he was Revived through the help of his adjutant Belial — the Archangel of Cunning and a Fallen Angel, by exploiting Beelzebub's foolishness when the Astral murdered Lucifer with a sneak attack. By Belial's cunning manipulations, Lucilius was revived by having his decapitated head grafted onto the dead body of Lucifer, sheathing "history's greatest intellect" in the "strongest possible vessel" and thus establishing Lucilius as a proper antithesis to his original, and from there — an existential threat to all of creation.

Attack Potency: Multi-Solar System level (should be comparable to the Primal Beasts[Statistics Values 1] and Archangels, which he can control and create as an Astral) | Complex Multiverse level (Caused Etemenanki to fall and cease functioning[13], along with gravely injuring Beelzebub with Avatar's Power in a single strike using his Sword of Repudiation[47])[Statistics Values 2] | Complex Multiverse level (with the power of the Twelve Wings of the Apocalypse, he should possess the Speaker Helel ben Sahar’s power and authority over the Sky Realm and Astral Realm. Lucilius damaged Etemenanki with the aftershocks of his attacks during his clash with Sandalphon and Captain)[Statistics Values 2], likely higher in Zero form.

Speed: Massively FTL+ (should be comparable to Beelzebub, one of the highest-ranking Astrals and a powerful Astral Primal Beast Chimera, who should be faster than Europa) | Massively FTL+ (blitzed and severely injured Beelzebub with Iscariot, while also keeping up with attacks from both Captains and Sandalphon) | Massively FTL+pre-Phoenix (blitzed Primarch Wings Sandalphon and reacted to his sudden attack[47] and own usage of Paradise Lost with ease[48]), likely Immeasurablepost-Phoenix (is likely to have successfully analyzed and emulated Phoenix's method of movement, after being given an opportunity to do so when it flew past him[49]), possibly higher in Zero form.

Lifting Strength: Superhuman (should be at least as capable as the mortal Draph race, who can lift large monsters with ease) | Immeasurable (nullified Etemenanki’s buoyancy using his powers) | Immeasurable (lifted and swung the Sword of Repudiation, which is an object created entirely through Astral energy, and effortlessly skewered Beelzebub up in the air with a single arm wielding the sword).

Striking Strength: Multi-Solar System level | Complex Multiverse level | Complex Multiverse level.

Durability: Multi-Solar System level | Complex Multiverse level (withstood hits from Captain without serious injury)[Statistics Values 2] | Complex Multiverse level (Twelve Black Wings trivialized[50] Primarch Wings Sandalphon's attacks without effort, endured two simultaneous Reginleiv attacks from both Captains without serious injury, and shrugged off Sandalphon's Ain Soph Aur attack)[Statistics Values 2], higher with unique buffs and likely higher in Zero form.

Stamina: Superhuman as an Astral, likely Infinite after being revived with Lucifer's body.

Range: Several Meters with the Dark Opus swords' melee strikes, Thousands of Kilometers with magical projectiles and sword beams, Planetary with Paradise Lost, Complex Multiversal with The End and the Speaker's power of Law Manipulation.

Standard Equipment: The Dark Opus weapon series, mainly a set of three swords to make proper use of Lucifer's own established combat style.

Intelligence: Supergenius (as an Astral Researcher who studied the evolution of the Sky Realm and concluded that it would achieve homeostasis only to serve God's convenience. He created the first original Primal Beasts, leading to the development of more Primal Beasts by other Astrals — entities that became the Astrals' most powerful weapons against the Skydwellers. These primal beasts are higher-dimensional beings that govern and regulate the laws and aspects of reality in the Sky Realm, embodying concepts, myths, and gods, given form by the Astrals. The first of the Primal Beasts were the Angels and Primarchs, tasked with regulating the Tetra-Elements, which is an essential framework for the Sky Realm's stable existence in substitution of the Six Dragons. Furthermore, Lucilius gained knowledge of and understood the properties of the chaos in the Crimson Horizon — an area beyond the reach of direct study by other Astral researchers, who could only theorize about its properties for academic purposes. Lucilius later orchestrated the Fallen Angel Rebellion to quickly amass cores from his own Primal Beasts, which would then planned to be used to create Avatar for the purpose of enacting the Grand Finale. Despite being thwarted, Lucilius had prepared countless contingencies and alternate avenues to fulfilling the Grand Finale, as the leftovers from his legacy were then used by him again to try and sink Etemenanki, the full capabilities and inner workings of which were unknown even to the Astrals, to break the dimensional boundary and unleash world-rending chaos into the Sky Realm.)

Weaknesses: He grows weaker if his Twelve Black Wings are damaged, as they are a direct representation and emanation of his power as is standard in the design of Angel-type Primal Beasts. This will not completely shut him down, but may prevent him from using certain abilities that rely on the reserve energy stored in his wings, however he hasn't demonstrated this weakness in his Zero form. Additionally, his Twelve Labors invoked through Seven Trumpets and Gospel of the End, along with certain other abilities, can be dispelled by fulfilling their specific cancel conditions.

Feats:
  • Created the original Primal Beast Lucifer, along with the elemental Primarchs who became the Sky Realm's wedges. He spearheaded the research into Primal Beast mass-production for Astral society, becoming the founding father of the Primal Beast field of science and creating some of the strongest beings in his world;
  • Survived for 2000 years as nothing more than a decapitated head in a casket, owing to his Astral deathlessness, but is implied to have been caught in a state between consciousness and unconsciousness (possibly self-imposed) where a 'mundane wake-up call' would be sufficient to wake him;
  • Nearly killed his rival and fellow Astral Primal Beast Chimera, Beelzebub, by blitzing and backstabbing him with his Iscariot attack, piercing even Beelzebub's flesh with the Sword of Renunciation—whereas even Cagliostro had to resort to sealing him due to a lack of firepower;
  • Damaged and nearly brought down Etemenanki before being stopped and dimensionally banished by the combined efforts of Sandalphon, Helel ben Sahar, and Captain. Had he succeeded, he would have destroyed the entire world Granblue Fantasy irreparably;
  • Overpowered and consumed Helel ben Sahar, the Speaker of Dawn and the Omnipotent's right-hand man, in single combat without sustaining serious injury in his Revived form. While the Speaker is implied to have possibly jobbed to guarantee a win for the crew later, it is also suggested that he was not strong enough to defeat Lucilius alone, else he would've done so from the beginning;
  • Completely destroyed and sank the floating islands of Port Breeze, as well as Zinkenstill, with a single cast of his Paradise Lost attack;
  • Was able to reset the causality of Nier through Point Zero and brainwashed her using memories taken from an alternate timeline;
  • Independently created a large isolated realm dubbed Point Zero, where he replicated the structure of Etemenanki. Within this realm, he can shape Chaos and Providence to his will, resisting direct divine intervention from the Gods. In this place, he planned to kill both Captains who had thus far eluded death due to consistent divine intervention;
  • Near the end of the Versus Rising storyline, Lucilius is considered such a massive threat to the world that the Sky God Bahamut broke his non-interventionist stance by sending his avatar, Versusia, in an attempt to eliminate Lucilius terminator-style in a roundabout way so that Lucilius couldn't predict and eliminate this possibility.

Notable Attacks and Techniques:

  • Paradise Lost: manifests an array of sigils that rain down countless energy beams, dealing immense random-element damage that ignores DMG Cut. Inflicts Summonless and two random Chromatic Fruit to each target, inflicts Death Ineluctable on targets killed by this attack, while Lucilius gains Wings of the Word (only at battle start) and starts Countdown to the End.
  • Iblis: launches a buzzsaw formed from the Swords of Refutation and Renunciation that separates into a cross-cut after impact, dealing 5-hit random element damage (2000% DMG total) with smaller bonus durability-ignoring damage. Inflicts Slashed, Petrified (Fear), and Weakened on hit. Lucilius gains DMG Cut and Bonus DMG.
  • Iscariot: rapid lunge directly at the target, followed by either a direct knee kick or a grab throw with Lucilius impaling the target with the Dark Opus swords.
  • Phosphorus: a swift overhead slash using the Sword of Repudiation, either telekinetically or by manifesting a large sword beam, dealing 5-hit random-element damage (2000% DMG total) with smaller bonus durability-ignoring damage. Dispels all buffs on hit, inflicts Strong Armed and Blinded on hit.
  • Sephiroth: manifests the sigil of the Tree of Life with the Da'at and Malkuth aspects lit up in red and blue respectively, conjured from the power in his wings. Deals 12-hit random-element damage to all targets (2400% DMG total), inflicts Skill Delay, and cleanses all debuffs on Lucilius.
    • Sephiroth Vanitas: same as before, but also inflicts Summonless on all targets.
  • Axion: fires powerful beams of energy in a variety of ways, typically shooting three concentrated beams that detonate on impact with a nebulous explosion dealing random-element DMG to all targets (3000% DMG total). Inflicts Collapsed, DA Down, and TA Down on hit.
    • Axion Vanitas: shoots six beams (2400% DMG total), in addition to inflicting Strong Armed and Blinded on hit.
  • Tessera: an offensive instantaneous teleportation ability that may be instantly chained with follow-up moves. Deals random-element damage upon hit from the energy burst formed by teleporting (3000% DMG total), in addition to removing all buffs from the target and inflicting 100% Charge Cut.
  • Ficus: creates a random-element explosion centered on Lucilius as a burst from his wings (3000% DMG total), inflicting Slashed, Weakened and Emerald Fruit on hit. Lucilius gains Wings of the Word if above 50% health, otherwise inflicts Zombified on all targets.
    • Ficus Vanitas: alternative effect instead of Slashed and Weakened: inflicts 100% Charge Cut and Skill Delay.
  • Malus: dark-element explosion centered on Lucilius as a burst from his wings (3000% DMG total), causes Lucilius to lose Wings of the Word, inflicts ATK Down and Golden Fruit on hit.
  • Orbital Resonance: Lucilius enters a stance where he resonates with his swords, gaining either Repudiation or Renunciation and gains access to a special Omen attack with his empowered swords as long as the buffs are active. This ability's buffs are unremovable, but are dispelled when Lucilius uses Seven Trumpets or Gospel of the End.
    • Omen of Repudiation/Renunciation and Refutation: 3-hit random-element DMG to all targets (2400% DMG total), inflicts DA Down, TA Down and Paralyzed, while Lucilius gains Supplemental DMG and Bonus DMG.
  • Seven Trumpets: Lucilius generates a spherical chromatic barrier with orbiting inscription rings around himself, which then grants him Labors from First to Sixth before dissipating, enabling the usage of Omen abilities until the respective Labors are removed (each Omen attack dealing 12,000% DMG total) which will each reduce Countdown to the End's maximum value by one segment permanently. Deals random-element damage as an explosion centered on self upon the barrier dissipating (1200% DMG total), and inflicts two random Chromatic Fruit on hit;
    • Omen of the First Labor: massive random-element DMG to all targets, inflicts DA Down and TA Down on hit.
    • Omen of the Second Labor: random-element 12-hit DMG to random targets, Lucilius gains Debuff Res. Up.
    • Omen of the Third Labor: random-element 3-hit DMG to all targets, inflict C.A. Sealed on hit.
    • Omen of the Fourth Labor: random-element DMG to all targets, inflicts Skill Sealed on hit.
    • Omen of the Fifth Labor: random-element 12-hit DMG to random targets, Lucilius gains ATK Up and DEF Up.
    • Omen of the Sixth Labor: random-element 3-hit DMG to all targets, Lucilius gains DMG Mitigation.
      • (Each Omen may be interrupted from firing by cancelling their respective Labor at the same time.)
  • Atheism: a defensive ability from his wings, granting him a random Elemental Repudiation and Elemental Renunciation buffs that both last 5 minutes.
  • Time-out Bubble: an ability (no official name) that Lucilius used to restrain and powernull Sandalphon as long as the bubble is maintained (even subconsciously, as long as there aren't any extreme distractions).
  • Celestial Fusion: Lucilius discards his physical body, transcending his previous state of existence and entering his Zero form.

  • Wings of the Word:
    Passive barrier status effect that modifies any incoming damage (even that which ignores durability) to a fixed low value where it's practically harmless to Lucilius (starting from 0.06% of his max HP per hit, based on variance of opponents' classes/jobs, taking nearly no damage (0.01% of max HP) at six duplicate classes), in addition to passively healing him from sustained damage at a mild rate (0.06% max HP per turn). Can only be removed through attacking when he is below half health, or when Lucilius uses Malus or Gopherwood Ark. May be regained through Ficus above 50% health.
  • Chromatic Fruit:
    Inflicted by various abilities, these conventionally unremovable buffs passively convey afflictions until they are consumed by the target via satisfying underlined conditions:
    • Emerald Fruit - Takes DMG every turn / Upon using a healing skill: Consume the fruit and gain: 3-turn cut to skill cooldowns, Blinded;
    • Golden Fruit - Accuracy for normal attacks, skill damage, and charge attacks is lowered / Upon using a buff skill: Consume the fruit and gain: C.A. Reactivation, Zombified;
    • Crimson Fruit - Charge bar gain is lowered / Upon using a damage skill: Consume the fruit and gain: Double Strike, 100% Charge Cut, Supplemental DMG Taken;
    • Cerulean Fruit - Receives a random debuff (ATK Down, DEF Down, Blinded, Dark Restraints, Halation, Slashed, Zombified) every turn / Upon using a debuff skill: Consume the fruit and gain: Flurry (3-hit), Skill Sealed.
  • Evangelist's Blade:
    Indefinite unremovable buff that boosts Lucilius' attack specs based on Evangelist's Blade level (rises upon special attack activation / lowers upon taking a buff-removing effect):
    • Level I: Lucilius deals +30% more damage;
    • Level II: Axion Apocalypse removes 1 debuff from self upon cast;
    • Level III: Normal attacks remove 1 buff from target on hit;
    • Level IV: Damage dealt is always superior element to the target's element (Superior Elemental DMG). Axion Apocalypse deals additional durability-ignoring damage to targets;
    • Level V: Ignores DMG Cuts. Axion Apocalypse inflicts Max HP Lowered (Stackable).
  • Countdown to the End:
    Special ability in the form of a timer with six segments that ticks down over time (1 segment per 1.5 minutes), or whenever Lucilius successfully uses any offensive ability. Maximum timer capacity permanently reduces by 1 segment whenever a target is killed. Segments refill to maximum capacity when Lucilius uses Seven Trumpets, Gospel of the End, or Orbital Resonance. Conveys the following cumulative effects to Lucilius depending on how few segments are left:
    • 5 segments: tiny Supplemental DMG boost, and inflicts 1 random debuff (Dark Restraints, Slashed, Supplemental DMG Taken) per attack;
    • 4 segments: small Supplemental DMG boost, and gains Godsight;
    • 3 segments: moderate Supplemental DMG boost, and inflicts 2 random debuffs (Blinded, Dark Restraints, Halation, Petrified (Fear), Supplemental DMG Taken, Zombified) on all targets every turn;
    • 2 segments: strong Supplemental DMG boost, gains Double Strike and Superior Elemental DMG;
    • 1 segments: massive Supplemental DMG boost, and all attacks ignore durability;
    • 0 segments: prepares to cast The End next turn, becoming un-interruptable in addition to Lucilius automatically evading all incoming damage or debuffs on causal/conceptual level, during which only attacks that have a 'sure hit' effect may land.
  • Seven Trumpets:
    The Labors created by Seven Trumpets are indefinite simultaneously active buffs, which can only be removed through satisfying their specific cancel conditions, thus dispelling the effects and restricting the usage of their respective Omen attacks.
    • First Labor: removes three buffs from all targets every turn. To cancel - use a charge attack 5 times in a single turn.
    • Second Labor: ATK is boosted and deals bonus superior elemental DMG upon attacks. To cancel - attack six times in a single turn.
    • Third Labor: maintains a lightning storm, the bolts of which deal plain damage (durability negation) to all targets. To cancel - deal enough damage to interrupt Lucilius out of an Omen attack.
    • Fourth Labor: debuffs on self expire much faster. To cancel - successfully debuff Lucilius 10 times in a single turn.
    • Fifth Labor: Lucilius gains TA Up (100%). To cancel - use a Fated Chain (in game a FC bar is generated upon cumulative usage of charge attacks; the closest alternative may be to use a charge attack 10 times in a single turn or something comparable).
    • Sixth Labor: Lucilius gains DMG Cut. To cancel - hit Lucilius 60 times in a single turn.
  • Orbital Resonance:
    • Repudiation: Each turn that the target fails to land over 25 hits during their attacks, the Sword of Repudiation will inflict 100% Charge Cut, and will defend Lucilius with DMG Fixed.
    • Renunciation: Each turn that the target fails to deal 2 triple attacks, the Swords of Renunciation and Refutation will defend Lucilius with DMG Fixed and Repel.

All previous abilities, in addition to:

  • Paradise Lost: ultimate form of Paradise Lost, with a more frequent and destructive downpour of beams of colorless energy, dealing plain damage that ignore durability along with effects like Shielded, Unchallenged, and Mirror Image, while raining down lightning that inflicts C.A. Sealed on hit, but otherwise is the same as before.
  • Absolute Nothing: Lucilius further refines his transcended form, reaching the zenith of his power by discarding his very existence, which allows him to use Heaven's Floodgates and the abilities associated with it.
  • Iblis Apocalypse: stronger variant of Iblis (3000% DMG total), inflicting Skill Sealed and 100% Charge Cut on hit.
  • Axion Apocalypse: stronger variant of Axion (3000% DMG total), inflicting Zombified on hit, and cleanses debuffs on Lucilius along with increasing Evangelist's Blade by one additional level. Dispels one buff from target at Evangelist's Blade lvl 2, deals additional durability-ignoring damage at lvl 4, and cuts max HP by 20% at lvl 5.
  • Phosphorus Apocalypse: stronger variant of Phosphorus (3000% DMG total), inflicting Strong Armed while Lucilius gains DMG Cut.
  • Orbital Blackness: engulfs the targets in complete darkness, followed by an explosion of 3-hit random element damage, inflicting Halation. Extends attack skill cooldowns by 2 turns if Eighth Labor is uncleared. Extends healing skill cooldowns by 2 turns if Ninth Labor is uncleared. Extends debuff skill cooldowns by 2 turns if Tenth Labor is uncleared. Extends buff skill cooldowns by 2 turns if Eleventh Labor is uncleared.
  • Gopherwood Ark: Lucilius brings his swords together in a battering ram, moving at high speed and opening portals (or engulfing the entire area in a portal field) to repeatedly ram into targets, losing Wings of the Word in the process. Removes all debuffs on Lucilius on cast, and instantly kills targets that share species/race with other targets caught in the attack (doesn't have to hit them). Inflicts Death Ineluctable on hit.
  • Gospel of the End: Lucilius generates a spherical chromatic barrier with orbiting inscription rings around himself, which then grants him Elemental Labors from Seventh to Twelfth before dissipating, enabling the usage of Anti-Vasileia until all Labors are removed. Deals plain damage (durability negation) as an explosion centered on self upon the barrier dissipating (1200% DMG total).
  • Anti-Vasileia: Lucilius releases an immense explosion of energy from his wings, dealing massive random-element damage (12,000% DMG total) that surpasses Paradise Lost itself, and is possibly the most destructive attack in his arsenal under the amplifications from Gospel of the End (bar The End itself). While the attack is being prepared and used, Lucilius gains Unchallenged. May be interrupted by cancelling an Elemental Labor at the same time of Lucilius readying to use Anti-Vasileia.
  • Final Rebellion: Lucilius will start with a large burst of energy, followed by a powerful conjured storm of lightning that will linger and trail after the target (the bolts inflict C.A. Sealed), along with dropping explosive energy orbs that inflict Skill Sealed, and homing sigils that explode and inflict Stunned/Dizzy upon hit and leave Slow-inflicting ichor on the ground. The attack is concluded by Lucilius throwing down an immense energy sphere.
  • Ultima Rebellion: stronger variant of Final Rebellion, with larger AoEs, faster and more numerous attacks, including the usage of Heaven's Floodgates to mix up the attack pattern.
  • The End: the ultimate ability of Lucilius, unleashing all of his power at once by destroying his wings and engulfing the world in darkness, from which innumerable Paradise Losts manifest, dealing 100% of all targets' health as plain damage that ends the fight by permanently killing them while ignoring effects like DMG Cut, Shielded, Unchallenged, Mirror Image, Dodge Rate Up, Dodge All, Guts/Lethal Atk Dodged/Undying, Autorevive, etc. It is possible to interrupt the attack while it is being prepared with enough distracting damage unless Countdown to the End is at zero segments. Lucilius is automatically defended by his Dark Opus swords while preparing to cast the attack.

All previous passives, in addition to:

  • Heaven's Floodgates:
    Lucilius gains the ability to command time itself with perfect precision, capable of not only stopping but also accelerating, decelerating, reversing, and otherwise warping time either at large or in specific local areas.
  • Gospel of the End:
    The Elemental Labors created by Gospel of the End are simultaneously active buffs which also happen to have a specific elemental alignment (one unique element (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light, Dark) assigned randomly to each Labor), and can be removed through satisfying their specific cancel conditions, thus dispelling the effects and restricting the usage of Anti-Vasileia. Unlike Labors from the Seven Trumpets, these Labors have an exception in that they have a duration of exactly 60 seconds each, taking 6 minutes in total for all to expire starting from the Seventh Labor.
    • Seventh Labor: Gains ATK Up and TA Up (100%);
    • Eighth Labor: Gains DEF Up and Debuff Res. Up (immunity);
    • Ninth Labor: Gains Flurry (Special) and Uplifted;
    • Tenth Labor: All targets' Max HP is lowered at end of turn (Stackable);
    • Eleventh Labor: Deals Bonus DMG of 2 random elements upon attacks;
    • Twelfth Labor: Gains Godsight and lands a random debuff (ATK Down, DEF Down, Blinded, Dark Restraints, Halation, Petrified (Fear), Supplemental DMG Taken, Slashed, Zombified) on all targets at end of turn;
      • (The cancel conditions for each Labor draw from the following pool randomly, each restricted by their specific elemental requirements: Hit 66 times in a single turn / Use 12 skills in a single turn / Charge Attack 6 times in a single turn.)
