
Summary
Kusanagi is a character who was first canonically introduced as a mandatory mid-boss in King of Fighters 2003. He is an illusion being created through the use of the Yata Mirror by Chizuru Kagura, who was brainwashed by Botan, a member of Those From The Past. Canonically, he fought against Team K'
However, Kusanagi was actually first introduced in King of Fighters 2002, a non-canonical "dream match" game, as a hidden character. In this game, he holds a rivalry with K999, which is a nod to his voice actor's previous work as Shotaro Kaneda in the film adaptation of Akira.

Note: Kusanagi uses only uses Kyo´s skills learned prior to KOF '96, lacking the knowledge to use Kyo's rekka attacks or R.E.D. Kick. It is also unknown if Kusanagi fades away as a result of Chizuru being freed of her mind control or losing the Yata Mirror.
