Summary
A knife is a tool or weapon with an edge or blade, often attached to a handle or hilt. Knives are one of the first tools used by mankind, appearing at least 2.5 million years ago, as evidenced by the Oldowan tools.
Although originally made from wood, bone, stone, flint, and obsidian, over the centuries, as metallurgy and manufacturing improved, knife blades have been made from copper, bronze, iron, steel, ceramics, and titanium.
