Summary
Kamek is a high-ranking Magikoopa in the Koopa Troop and Bowser's advisor and former caretaker. Due to this, he is a recurring antagonist in the Mario verse. The Japanese version makes no distinctions between Kamek's and generic Magikoopas' names, which is retained in some English localizations, though unique Magikoopas are often presumed to be Kamek.
Kamek made his first appearance in the game "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island," where he attempted to kidnap Baby Mario and Baby Luigi but was thwarted by the Yoshi clan. He has since appeared in various other Mario games, often as a boss or a recurring enemy, and has played a role in several spin-off titles as well.
