Dredd and his rogues
Judge Dredd is a long-running British cyberpunk, crime comic strip franchise beginning in 1978 in the second issue of 2000 AD centering around the titular Joe Dredd and the Judges, an undoubtedly fascist organization who suppress freedoms but protect the civilians without hesitation. The series is primarily set in the fictional crime-ridden city of Mega City-One, population approx 880,000,000, located on the Cursed Earth, where the eastern USA used to be. Many stories use crime-procedural narratives to explore the world, provide deep-cut political commentary, absurdist comedy/action, or thoughtful character studies.
Although primarily street-tier adventures, the stories occasionally travel to other planets and even universes. Many of Dredd's enemies are alien entities, such as the dreadful Dark Judges.
The series is in the same continuity as the short-lived series Harlem Heroes, published concurrently with earlier Dredd stories, and has multiple spin-offs focusing on Dredd's supporting casts such as Judge Anderson, Judge Hershey, and Chopper. The franchise has also spawned two films, two video games, multiple novels, radio plays, foreign adaptations, etc.
