“ | Blades are granted phenomenal power from our creator on high… yet we are doomed to never remember. Why?! The accumulation of memories is what allows mankind, no, all life, to grow. Change, evolve. But… Blades are fleeting. When we return to our cores, our memories are lost. Our growth snatched away forever. Man’s life too has an end, yes. However, though each individual life is fleeting… you pass on your memories, allowing you to grow. As a species, as a culture. Why does Indol control all the Core Crystals? By controlling the moment of every Blade’s birth, they enslave our entire kind. How is that fair? We have no culture because Indol decrees it. Because that’s what your kind do! Why are you the masters, and we the slaves? It is we… who embody the very nature of this world! | „ |
~ Jin, comparing the lives of Blades to that of other species living in Alrest |
Summary
Jin is the secondary antagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Jin was a Blade, a being awakened from a Core Crystal to live alongside a human, called a Driver. He was the royal treasure of the nation of Torna before he was stolen by a thief named Gort and accidentally awakened by a girl named Lora. As she grew older, the two developed a reputation for their strength, and eventually helped Prince Addam of Torna stop the rampaging Blade Malos alongside his own Blade, the Aegis Mythra. However, Lora was fatally wounded shortly after the conflict. In panic, Jin remembered a technique to extend a Blade's life past their Driver's natural lifespan, and consumed Lora's flesh, becoming a Flesh Eater. These are Blades who have lengthened one lifespan and increased their power in exchange for eventual permanent death instead of returning to their Core Crystal.
After wandering the earth for five centuries, trying to find a new meaning to his now eternal life, he met Malos, who had survived the war, and subsequently co-founded the secretive terrorist organization Torna. They would eventually save and recruit Akhos, Patroka, and Nia, other Flesh Eaters, in order to climb the World Tree and kill the Architect, as Jin had concluded that life had no meaning and to exist was cruelty. He was opposed by the new Driver of the Aegis, Rex, who wanted to meet the Architect to save humanity. However, Rex's idealism eventually convinced Jin that perhaps there was a point to living. Unfortunately, Patroka and Akhos were attacked and killed by Rex's other enemy Amalthus shortly afterward. As a final act of heroism, Jin expended his lifespan in a burst of power to freeze Amalthus to death, allowing Rex to seek his answer.

Lifting Strength: Unknown (Lacks lifting strength feats) | Immeasurable (Even when weakened, he could repeatedly clash with Master Driver Rex)
Striking Strength: Moon level | Complex Multiverse level
Durability: Moon level (Took numerous hits from Malos during the Aegis War) | Complex Multiverse level (Took hits from Pneuma on multiple occasions)
Stamina: Superhuman (Comparable to the rest of the Tornan cast) | Below Average (Due to his age, he cannot fight for long periods of time)

Standard Equipment: His Nodachi
Intelligence: Gifted (An extremely skilled swordsman who has over five centuries worth of experience, he was hailed as one of the strongest Blades in the history of Alrest, with his historical knowledge far surpassing that of anyone else in the game. During his time as Lora's Blade, he has built up a reputation of being the strongest Blade in the Kingdom of Torna and was pivotal during the Aegis War 500 years prior to the story. As of the events of the game, he has been through countless traumatic experiences, which in turn has left him with a calm, calculating demeanor, thinking of multiple ways to get what he wants)
Weaknesses: If his core is destroyed, he will die. | Same as before, and he is slowly dying thanks to his nature as a Flesh Eater. Every time he uses his powers, it shortens his already very short remaining lifespan.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Ice Manipulation: As a Blade with control over the Ice element, Jin is able to lower the ambient energy of his environment, cooling the air and freezing ambient moisture. He uses this to encase his opponents in ice, create fields of damaging cold, and fire spikes of ice at his enemies. Even before becoming a Flesh Eater, he was easily able to chill the air to absolute zero.
- Stunned Swallow: Jin slowly moves his sword in a circle. If he is struck while in this stance, he retaliates by launching his opponent into the air.
- Empty Moment: Jin moves faster than the eye can see, delivering a barrage of slashes over a wide area.
- Elementary Particle Control: In his final form, Jin's power evolves to give him control over all elementary particles. This gives Jin the ability to bypass friction, allowing him to move at the speed of light without needing infinite energy. He is also able to nullify and redirect attacks that consist of particle energy, including Ether particles, which compose most living beings and energy attacks in the Xenoblade universe, or traditional matter. This ability has only been overcome by warping reality to outspeed Jin and strike when he cannot retaliate.
