Hyperion Cantos is an award-winning science fiction series written by Dan Simmons, published from 1989 to 1999 (though one of the short stories was written way back in 1983). The series is split into two halves - Hyperion (Hyperion & The Fall of Hyperion) and Endymion (Endymion and The Rise of Endymion), as well as three short stories (Remembering Siri, The Death of the Centaur & Orphans of the Helix). The first book tells the story of seven pilgrims that land on the planet of Hyperion, and make their journey to the time tombs of the dreaded Shrike.
Though Hyperion Cantos is a very powerful verse, where it exceeds the most in in it's hax. The Shrike is able to bypass the concepts of time, space and speed, can make people age backwards and affect entropy. The Shrike is the avatar of the Machine Ultimate Intelligence, sent back in time to collect a missing part of the Human Ultimate Intelligence. in Humanity travels mostly by the use of farcaster portals, which allow for instant travel to other worlds across many light years, which they favour over low FTL travel. The technocore reside in the hyperthetical spaces between farcaster portals.
