~ Stan Lee narrates the birth of the Earth's mightiest mortal, Origin of the Hulk
|
Summary
After being bombarded with a massive dose of gamma radiation while saving a young man's life during the testing of an experimental bomb, Dr. Robert Bruce Banner was transformed into The Incredible Hulk, a green behemoth who is the living personification of rage and pure physical strength.
He serves as the titular main protagonist of the 1982 The Incredible Hulk animated series, and a supporting character in the Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends episode "Spidey Goes Hollywood".
Powers and Stats
Tier: 9-C | Varies. At least High 7-C, up to 7-B and higher with Rage | At least 9-B, likely higher, higher with Rage
Key: Bruce Banner | Hulk | 1-inch tall Hulk
Name: Robert Bruce Banner (much like in the comics, that's his full name as seen in the show's bible), Bruce (usually by Betty), Doc (by Rick), Banner/Dr. Banner (usually by others) | Hulk, The Hulk, The Incredible Hulk, The Raging One,[1] Green Goliath[2]
Origin: The Incredible Hulk (1982), Earth-8107
Gender: Male
Age: 29 (Described as being a brilliant young scientist and more specifically twenty nine years old in the show's bible.)
Classification: Gamma Radiated Human, Scientist
Powers and Abilities:
- Multiple Selves (Likely Type 1 or 2; Bruce and Hulk are more or less completely different entities, though they share a mind to an extent. See intelligence section for more information.)
- Peak Human Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Acrobatics (Climbed up and walked through a lab pipe then skillfully jumped down while partially sliding down the side of it.[3] Swung on a rock to avoid Salvatore.[4] Jumped and front-flipped out of a window several storeys up, landing on a truck.[5] Used some cables to swing across a lab, turn a valve with a kick and grab an extinguisher[6])
- Vehicular Mastery (Knows how to pilot and control many kinds of vehicles, ranging from army jeeps[3][1][5] to planes[7] and shuttles.[8] He could also ride advanced motorcycles built by the Leader without having ever ridden a motorcycle before[9])
- Transformation/Body Control (Under sufficient stress and strain, he can turn into the Hulk.[10] He can resist the transformation[10][5] though it requires a lot of effort and sometimes extra help from anesthetic gas[3])
- Limited Resistance to Mind Manipulation (Resisted Puppet Master's first attempt to mind control the Hulk and forcing Banner to transform, but couldn't resist his second attempt once the Puppet Master made a bigger atomic clay statue to control him[5]) and knockout gas (Seemingly resisted knockout gas from prehistoric plants much better than the younger Rick Jones or the two soldiers near him, though it ended up triggering a transformation[2])
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Martial Arts (Though generally a brawler and wrestling/grappling-type fighter, he sometimes performs more unorthodox or slightly complex moves such as kicks[1] and a chokehold[11])
- Pseudoflight (Able to leap long distances and redirect himself mid-jump[1])
- Berserk Mode/Rage Power/Statistics Amplification (His strength and durability are directly proportional to his anger, or, as the old saying goes, "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets".[5] Hulk can grow instantly stronger against something as strong if not stronger than him to make himself much stronger than his opponent, in one instance growing strong enough to smash two robots when one was strong enough to easily catch his fist.[10] In another instance he was extremely angry but couldn't break out of a room designed for him even after punching the door over 37 times over the span of a few hours, but when his friends Rick and Betty got in trouble he became exponentially angrier and destroyed the door in five or six hits, in a matter of seconds.[3] His strength is stated to be immeasurable, and he's able to overpower exo-field energy which uses his own strength and energy against him[12])
- Cloth Manipulation (Can recreate his clothes upon turning back into Banner or fix them if the transformation is stopped. She-Hulk can do the same plus transform back but on command[7])
- Sound Manipulation (Roared hard enough to overpower the Sonic Generator, a sonic weapon[12])
- Air/Shockwave Creation (via regular claps[3] and thunderclaps[11])
- Radiation Manipulation (Used the gamma energy in his body to destroy the yellow slime[6])
- Surface Scaling (Can climb up walls by digging into the surface[5])
- Acrobatics (Showed off some impressive agility while climbing up some metal bars[11] and on Notre Dame, against Quasimodo and Salvatore[4])
- Resistance to Paralysis Inducement (Was unaffected by Doc Ock's paralysis weapons, which disrupts axon transmission to the muscles and instantly paralyze people[3]), Mind Manipulation (Overpowered the Puppet Master's mind control which was able to easily control all of Mesa City plus most of Gamma base[5]) and Freezing Weapons (A Hulkbuster weapon that could completely freeze a solid Hulk model to the point where it could shatter like glass had no effect on him)
Same abilities as Hulk to a lower degree, plus Small Size (Type 2, 2.54 centimeters tall)
Attack Potency: Street level (Can fight and overpower those who can harm him. Briefly broke out of the grip of the giant bat Salvatore, though he was overall weaker than him.[4] Is strong enough to overpower other grown men without any trouble.[5][8] Tripped Talbot, an experienced US soldier with alleged kung fu skills,[10] by throwing a target at his feet like a shield[12]) | Varies. At least Large Town level+ (In a calm state, he's casually stronger than a mason cannon which yields this much power as shown when he split a section of a mountain and broke into a facility a mason cannon could not.[10] Can fight those comparable to him, like the mutant hunchback Quasimodo,[4] the mighty alien robot Four-Three[13] or the similarly powerful She-Hulk,[7] but he's always the victor in the end.), up to City level+ and higher with Rage (After growing angry enough, he could punch through the beam from the Sonar Crystallizer which had previously hurt him. The Hulk was also said to be the only thing that could defeat the Crystallizer, above and beyond all other earthly weapons at the time, and it was stated to be capable of wiping out cities by Banner himself.[1] Just by walking, he can create tremendous earthquakes that can swallow small houses.[1] His strength is stated to be immeasurable, and he's able to overpower exo-field energy which uses his own strength and energy against him[12]) | At least Wall level, likely higher (Can send people flying with ease and effortlessly jump through the durable armor of the T-70 tank, which was powerful and tough enough to go against all of Gamma Base[11]), higher with Rage
Speed: At least Athletic Human to Peak Human, possibly higher (Slid under a closing door and avoided several falling rocks.[1] Avoided attacks from the giant bat Salvatore.[4] Jumped over a desintegrator disposal unit's massive hole and jumped into a pipe above to avoid shots from a laser cannon.[10] Capable of outrunning soldiers and a mob.[5][12] Jumped out of a falling jeep and clinged to a branch[9]) | Average Human to Athletic Human travel speed (He seemingly can't really run properly, only walk,[3][1] due to his considerable mass [sufficient to even crush a tank or sink through concrete], clarified by the show itself and the show's bible. When he tries to run, he's usually quite slow. There have only been a few occasions where he's been able to run at slightly faster speeds[4][10]) with at least Hypersonic leaping speed (Leaped away over attacks from several tanks.[13] Caught a space shuttle,[3] can cover countless miles with a single leap, outpace the hypersonic plane Jet Marine [Implied to be the fastest of its kind up to that point, faster than the North American X-15 which travels at Mach 6.7], and catch an army jet.[12] The show's bible implies there's no place [on Earth, at least] where the Hulk can't get to via jumping.) with FTL perceptions and combat speed (Can react to and deflect lasers with his fists and regularly dodges beams from similar weapons made at Gamma base.[10][6] Could casually slap away bullets and dodge missiles[8]) | At least Athletic Human to Peak Human (His attacks can be dodged by trained soldiers, but he's still capable of catching them off-guard[11])
Lifting Strength: At least Above Average Human (Struggled against slightly larger Amazon warriors.[1] Threw Rick Jones down a ditch.[13] Broke free of Salvatore's grip.[4] Can lift a sewer cover without much effort.[5] Shoved Betty out of a jeep with one push[9]) | Varies. At least Class K (While in a somewhat calm state, he lifted up his own 50-tonne body while under the effects of a gravity beam that more than doubled his own mass[12]), up to Class M (Threw a giant mammoth with this much force while slightly angry.[2] Portrayed as being this strong in the opening sequence. Can tear through tanks [as well as planes] and rip them apart with ease, while in a somewhat angry state.[1] Moved and shook the 10100-tonne Eiffel Tower during his fight with Quasimodo and could bend the beams holding up the structure.[4] Potentially packs this much force when jumping at hypersonic speeds, and his arms are just as powerful as his legs according to the show's bible.), higher with Rage | Varies. At least Class 5 (Slightly lifted an army jeep over his head. Ripped a machine gun in half[11]), higher with Rage
Striking Strength: Street level | Varies. At least Large Town level+, up to City level+ and higher with Rage | At least Wall level, likely higher, higher with Rage
Durability: Street level (Could resist the pain of electric wires going off due to gamma rays from the Sun.[3] Can shrug off pretty big falls.[1][4][5][6] His durability should be comparable to Talbot's who survived a large blast of electricity.[1] Seemingly tanked having his hand on top of an exploding control panel[5]) | Varies. At least Large Town level+ (Can shrug off hits from others comparable to him, or weapons akin to mason cannons.[13][4][7] Tanked an explosion that destroyed a mesa caused by the world's mightiest explosives, processed vibranium[9]), up to City level+ (Shrugged off and grew strong enough to tank and walk through city-busting beams from the Sonar Crystallizer which yielded at least this much[1]) and higher with Rage (A weaker primitive Hulk survived being inside a Yucatán volcano when it erupted and was unfazed by it[1]) | At least Wall level, likely higher (Fought against a Gila Monster that proved to be nearly as strong as him[11]), higher with Rage
Stamina: Athletic to Peak Human (Resisted limited exposure to a poisonous gas from an ancient Yucatán pyramid trap.[1] Escaped and hid from a mob composed of all of Mesa City's citizens and Gamma base[5]) | Superhuman (Can go on a rampage or a search for several hours[3][2])
Range: Standard Melee Range | Extended Melee Range due to size (Is 2.106 m tall, close to the more simplified seven feet he's described with in the show's bible) Tens of Meters with thunderclap (His thunderclap can extend for dozens of meters[11]) and Hundreds of Meters with environmental projectiles (If he wished, he could throw a bus half a mile or 804.67200 meters away with ease.) | Below Standard Melee Range
- Extraordinary Genius as Bruce Banner (Quickly repaired some wires affected by gamma rays that temporarily shut down all of Gamma Base and kept it shielded from outside communication for more than a day. Built a containment room and a press machine that could hold off a fairly angry Hulk, within a small base also built by him, connected to Gamma Base for power and able to see events in Gamma Base via cameras.[3] With a rope, he managed to infiltrate an ancient protected temple, and with a lab burner of some kind he shorted out a huge blast of electricity so it would eat itself up in the water of the sprinklers above.[1] Created the gamma ray formula [and presumably designed the bomb as well] and hid it inside a lamp.[13] Can identify a type of deadly gas just by looking at it, rewired one of Cyclops' advanced robots in order to make it shoot a beam using a few wires as remote controls, later tricking Cyclops' advanced mind itself and managing to deactivate it.[10] Reprogrammed the Garth 7, an extremely advanced computer that could've blown his secret identity, in seconds, plus tricked people holding him against his will that he was turning into the Hulk in order to escape and built not one but two anti-mind control devices against the Puppet Master's ability to control Mesa City and Gamma Base via his atomic clay statues, in a matter of minutes at most [additionally, Bruce apparently taught Rick enough about computer programming to know how to handle Puppet Master's technology, wiping everyone's memories clean of Bruce being Hulk except for Rick's and making all the Puppet Master's tech self-destruct.].[5] Can repair a time machine capable of sending an entire lab room back to 1 million years ago and could identify long extinct prehistoric poisonous plants at a glance.[2] Bruce possesses some degree of medical knowledge, which he used for a blood transfusion to help his cousin's life while she was in a critical state.[7] Built a transmat device that could teleport someone from one building to another[12])
- Below Average to Average as the Hulk (Normally very aggressive, described as dim-witted by the narrator and not too articulate or intelligent but still knowledgeable enough to put out fires with sand and water, find a hospital if one of his friends is injured or get them to safety[9][8] or not to destroy something that is property of the government, the T-70 tank.[11] Can use other objects against his foes, like a net against some soldiers.[6] Leaped on top of a plane, predicting where it would go, in order to break it.[12] The show's bible does specify that he is not stupid, relative to Banner his mind is just clouded to all of Banner's knowledge.)
- It should be noted that Banner and Hulk share a mind to an extent, whenever Bruce saw his friends in trouble he turned into Hulk and Hulk went to rescue them, more motivated and stronger than before.[3][8] When two terrorists hijacked the T-70 tank, Bruce was helpless to stop it but transformed and the Hulk stopped it.[11] When Hulk dropped something from his pants and saw it fall into a hole, Bruce returned to where that happened and recovered what fell from his pants. As Hulk, he heard Quasimodo call his pet Salvatore a few times, and as Bruce he remembered his name.[4] When the Puppet Master tried to control the Hulk's mind, this forced Bruce to transform.[5] When Bruce was captured and tortured by the Leader, Hulk remembered what he had done to him and Betty and went after him[9])
Weaknesses: Cosmic rays can force Bruce Banner into transforming, and Bruce was able to stop the transformation with some extra help from anesthetic gas,[3] which usually works well against Hulk regardless.[8] Even as Banner he emits a small amount of gamma radiation, meaning he can be tracked down by devices built to find the Hulk.[12] Exposure to gamma radiation will turn Bruce into Hulk and Hulk back into Banner.[10][6] Hulk can turn back into Banner after getting tired as well, or if Hulk is bored and inactive and decides to rest. Hulk doesn't attack or hurt animals or people unless they threaten him, though he might even kill them if they push him too far.[2]
