Honkai Impact 3rd

Summary

Honkai Impact 3rd is an RPG action game developed by miHoYo, known internationally as Hoyoverse. The main story revolves around humanity's struggle against the Honkai, an extra-dimensional force of nature that is on the verge of destroying mankind.

Growing in power alongside the progress of humanity's civilization, Honkai creates monsters, natural disasters, plagues and eventually, god-like beings known as Herrschers, all seeking humanity's destruction over the course of thousands of years, eventually culminating in the descent of the Herrscher of Finality, which would bring about the end unless humanity finds a way to transcend the Honkai.

Power of the Verse

The verse is decently powerful, with most major characters being Multi-Solar System level by the end of the early-game, and by the time of the end-game, nearly all major characters possess some form of powerful hax, either through innate abilities, or through Divine Keys, granting them abilities such as Dimensional Manipulation, various forms of Time Manipulation and Spatial Manipulation, Power Nullification, Durability Negation and many others.

Explanations

The Honkai

The Honkai is an extra-dimensional force of nature that pervades the shared multiverse of Honkai Impact 3rd and other Hoyoverse installments such as Honkai Gakuen 2/Guns Girl Z, Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact. While its many actions, functions and abilities are complex by nature and designed to be nigh-incomprehensible, its purpose is to be a form of cosmic influence to push civilizations into becoming like it. The daughter of the Honkai describes it as wanting to embrace humanity, but its embrace being too much for humanity to handle. While many events would come to affect the Honkai and how it presents itself across different installments, even prior to the events of Honkai 3rd, this purpose is what ultimately lies beneath all else; though it shouldn't be mistaken as benevolent even when its goals remain the same.

Herrschers

Herrschers are god-like beings created by the Honkai, with each one ruling over a different Authority. These Authorities are what define the Herrscher in question, with the Herrscher of Flame possessing the Flame Authority, and the Herrscher of Corruption possessing the Authority of Corruption, and so on. The emergence of a Herrscher is referred to as a Honkai Eruption, and the powerful surge of Honkai energy typically results in massive effects to the surroundings, such as destroying all of Berlin in the First Eruption, or the widespread Honkai corruption that turned an entire city into zombies in the Third Eruption.

Herrschers are generally born from the manifestation or the implantation of a Herrscher Core within the most suitable host, but the full authority of the Herrscher is only obtained upon forming a link to the Imaginary Tree, which is the birthplace of everything that exists and is the source of these authorities, through a process known as "ascension", or "metamorphosis". Prior to ascension, Herrschers have access to far less power than they would otherwise possess, and the usage of their Authorities are limited, as shown with the Herrschers of Reason and Wind. These Herrschers are often considered to not be "true" Herrschers.

Prior to the intervention of the daughter of Honkai, the human minds of Herrschers were immediately corrupted by the Honkai, erasing their identity entirely and consuming them with the desire to destroy humanity. After this intervention, however, Herrschers became split between the persona within the Herrscher Core, and the human mind of the body's original host. With sufficient strength of will, the human mind can overcome or even fuse with the Herrscher Persona, and freely wield the Herrscher's Authority.

Divine Keys

Divine Keys are some of the highest tools in the fight against Honkai. They are weapons forged using the powers of the Herrscher Cores left behind by slain Herrschers during the Previous Era of humanity, produced by the organization Fire MOTH, otherwise known as "The Moth Who Chases The Flames". They often took the form of weapons, but major exceptions lie in the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth Divine Keys, which became indispensable tools to ensure the survival of humanity and its civilization even after the Previous Era's failure to defeat the Honkai.
