Summary

High School DxD is a light novel series written by Ichiei Ishibumi and illustrated by Miyama-Zero. The series revolves around Issei Hyoudou, a perverted high school student who is reincarnated into a Devil by Rias Gremory after being killed on his first date by a Fallen Angel. He later joins the Occult Research Club as he strives to rise up the Devils' ranks to fulfill his dream of building a harem and becoming a "Harem King".

The original series ran for about twenty five volumes, where it was restarted through a sequel titled Shin High School DxD. A series of books compilatning of short stories and original material titled High School DxD DX is published side-by-side with the main books.

The series has even expanded into the anime and manga genre's, with the former having four seasons that go up to the 10th volume from the light novel and the latter having ended its serialization following the 5th volume from the light novel.

In addition to the main series and its expanded media forms, there are short stories that Ishibumi have also made that take place parallel to the main series events.

There is the Delusion Magazine ☆ Night Material Collection, a series of short stories that were released in a special bundle for seasons 1 and 2 of the anime. Then there is the third short story, High School DxD EX that came with the 3rd season that takes place during the main series 4th story arc. And as of the 4th season of the anime came the latest short story bundled with the anime, High School DxD Zero, a prequel short story that takes place hundreds of years before the main series.

A spin-off prequel series titled as Daten no Inugami −SLASHDØG− (Fallen Dog God -SLASHDØG) was also made alongside High School DxD, with it having an original version that predated DxD before being remade into what it is known now. Written once again by Ichiei Ishibumi but with Kikurage as the illustrator, the series takes place four years before the start of the main series and follows Tobio Ikuse, who becomes involved in the world of the supernatural after an incident that led to his childhood friend, Sae Toujou, being declared missing along with his classmates in a school field trip which he narrowly avoids due to being sick. Discovering that his classmates could still be alive, he joins up with several of his surviving classmates and the Fallen Angel organization Grigori to rescue them from the Utsusemi Agency and thwart the plans of other malevolent forces like the Wizards of Oz to protect themselves and Japan from destruction.

Another spin-off series has been made with Miyama-Zero as the illustrator once again. However, Ichiei Ishibumi has instead taken the role of becoming supervisor of the spin off as the author is instead long-time fan of the main series and newcomer Shinonome Rippu. Titled Junior High School DxD, the spin off is set in the main series just like with Ishibumi's many short stories, taking place after Volume 10 and follows after Zekka Miyamoto, a young girl and descendent of a Hero who gets caught in the ongoing conflict in the supernatural world during the main series events. All the while "cursed" with a power that prevents her from living a life of normality and making friends, she makes her way into Kuoh Academy's junior division where she comes to meet many people of the very world that goes against her current goals.

Characters on the level of High-Class Devils are City level to Mountain level, able to produce attacks easily on the level of Pre-Balance Breaker Issei's attack that is able to punch a sizable hole into a large mountain as well as those who were able to match Balance Breaker Issei who can unleash attacks able to vaporize mountains. Speedwise, characters of this level should be comparable to base Volume 9 Issei who is Massively Hypersonic for being able to react to lightning as well as scaling above weaker class characters who were able to react to lightning. Much stronger characters such as the Ultimate-Class Devils, Devil Kings/Maou's, and above average Gods are easily Mountain level to Island level due to the plethora of feats involving complete destruction of mountains and islands they've caused as well as being Lightspeed or FTL due to scaling to or above the likes of Vali who has had many statements of being able to fly at such speeds and characters able to react and fight him. The strongest of these characters are anywhere from Country level from those like Serafall whose "glitter" can destroy Japan several times over and Azi Dahaka who was stated to be able to destroy all of Europe, to all the way to Planet level with the likes of the Dragon Gods and Trihexa who can destroy the entire planet, with a class between the latter and one of the former ending in the destruction of all the known worlds of DxD.

In spite of the series nature, it surprisingly has numeroes abilities each unique to every character, such as Issei Hyoudou's Boosted Gear able to Double his power and Transfer his doubled power to anyone/anything, Vali Lucifer's Divine Dividing able to Halve the power of anyone or anything he touches and Reflect back attacks, the Bael Clan's Power of Destruction, the Youkai Clan's ability to use Senjutsu and their exclusive power of Youjutsu, Tobio Ikuse's Jin allowing him to sever concepts such as techniques and magic, and so on.
