Professor? I had to...right?
~ Hellboy to Professor Trevor Bruttenholm after murdering August Breccan

For fifty years, I've been out there saving lives, beating the crap out of things like you. That makes me the good guy. You're the monster.
~ Hellboy

A giant striding across the mountains, wrapped in flames.
~ Hellboy in his demon form

Summary

Anung Un Rama, better known as Hellboy, was conceived around the 16th century in 1574 when his mother, an East Bromwich witch named Sarah Hughes, became a consort to the demon Azazel.

Despite Sarah's attempt to repent for her sins years later while on her death bed, Azazel claimed her so their child would be born and chopped the newborn's right hand off to replace it with the Right Hand of Doom, a relic tied to the Ogdru Jahad. Azazel then sent his half-demon child away when the other demons learned of his actions, appearing on Earth on the night of December 23, 1944, as part of the ritual by Grigori Rasputin and Nazi-based Project Ragnarok.

But the child appeared in the churchyard where his mother was abducted, found by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm when he and a military group were investigating Project Ragnarok. Bruttenholm befriended the infant, affectionately naming him ‘Hellboy,’ and the demon child was raised in secret by the U.S. government and trained/educated to be a paranormal investigator in the established Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD). Eventually, his demon heritage aging him slowly, Hellboy would meet Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien among other agents of the BPRD as they defend humanity while gradually, he learns of his origins.

He can figure out a way to destroy an enemy[80] after learning the weakness[81] and use the environment to his advantage such as when he used a damaged sign to skewer his enemy.[82] He has also displayed skill with swords and other improvised weapons). Unknown as Prince of Hell (Although he retains sentience in his demonic form, he hasn't displayed any signs of intelligence)

Weaknesses: Even though he has a healing factor, Hellboy's regeneration doesn't always save him, and his half-demonic nature allows him to be damaged by certain types of holy spells and magic. Some of his weapons often malfunction and there are a few times[83] when he's indicated to not being a great shot[84] even though he states he's improving. Despite his intellect and skill, Hellboy is rather brutish and short-tempered and may rush into situations and do stupid things just to later get surprised[85] in the process. He also apparently has a soft spot for cats and Baby Ruth bars | Same as before; is missing his left eye, though this isn't shown to be much of a hindrance for him | Same as before, though he might not be weak to holy weapons as he is no "simple creature of Hell"[86] | None notable

Feats:

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

Demonic Transformation: Hellboy assumes an even more demonic form under special circumstances, either artificially or when under emotional duress. In this form, Hellboy's stumps become full-grown horns. After coming to terms with his heritage, Hellboy seems to be able to transform at will, while also sprouting wings. Hellboy becomes much stronger and gains access to his latent magic. In his full-demon form, Hellboy was able to effortlessly slaughter Hell's most powerful inhabitants.

  • Size-Shifting: Hellboy can increase his size to the point where he's very larger such as Leviathan and Behemoth.
  • Hellfire Manipulation: While in his demonic form, Hellboy has the power to control the fires of Hell. With the power of Hellfire, Hellboy can create and manipulate massive devastating infernos from his body that obliterate anything in their path.
  • Electrokinesis: In his demonic form, Hellboy has the power to command lightning from the sky and strike down whoever he wishes.
  • Flight: When transformed into his demonic form, Hellboy sprouts wings which grant him the power of flight. However, it's unknown whether he uses wings or magic to achieve this feat.

Note: As we no longer consider tanking heat/fire as a durability feat, the staff has concluded here that Hellboy's durability cannot be scaled to Liz Sherman's feat of setting the world on fire. Even if he could scale to this feat, it would most likely be considered an outlier.

Explanations

  • Although Hellboy's strength, speed and durability increases when he taps into his demonic powers, the true extent of them isn't revealed until his third key, where he fought Leviathan and Behemoth with his demonic form and Rasputin both with and without his demonic form.
  • Hellboy's demon form only activates either artificially or when under emotional duress. However, after coming to terms with his heritage during the events of Hellboy in Hell, he seems to be able to transform at will.
