Summary

Hazel Rainart was one of the antagonists of RWBY. Introduced in Volume 4 as a member of Salem's Inner Circle, he was a very calm and reasonable person who would only use violence when it had a clear purpose. However, this all disappeared when in the presence of Ozpin who Hazel held responsible for the death of his sister. While in Ozpin's presence he would go into a murderous rage and was willing to kill anyone who stood in his way.

In Volume 8, after he learned the truth from Ozpin himself as well as his latest host, Oscar Pine, he defected from Salem and sacrificed himself to buy Emerald Sustrai and Oscar's rescuers time to escape from her wrath.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 8-A, higher with Dust Injection, far higher with Overdose

Name: Hazel Rainart

Origin: RWBY

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown

Classification: Human, Former Member of Salem's Inner Circle

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Aura (Able to use his Aura for numerous purposes), Forcefield Creation (Aura can be used as a full-body forcefield), Statistics Amplification (Can use Aura to enhance his striking power. The Lightning Dust he injects allows him to increase his speed), Enhanced Senses (Can use his Aura to sharpen his senses), Regeneration (Low-Mid; His vast Aura reserves allowed him to heal from being impaled), Extrasensory Perception (His Aura allows him to sense things around him), Martial Arts, Accelerated Development (Training [Physical Statistics and Abilities; Even Huntsmen in Training are able to rapidly develop in short periods of time, becoming significantly stronger and faster and evolving their abilities through short periods of training]), Dust Manipulation (Can enhance his attacks with Dust, which include Electricity, Fire, Earth, and Air), Forcefield Creation and Light Manipulation (Via Hard-Light Dust), Resistance to Extreme Heat and Cold (Aura protects the user from sub-zero temperatures, allowing them to be encased in ice without being cold, walk through a blizzard in casual clothing[1], and traverse the kingdom of Atlas, which resides in Remnant's North Pole,[2] without wearing any protective gear, as well as extreme heat up to and including the heat of flames,[3], being blasted with steam[4] being struck by lighting for an extended period of time,[5][6][7] and being submerged in lava without being burned[8]), and Pain Manipulation (His Semblance renders him immune to pain)

Attack Potency: Multi-City Block level (Able to match Qrow Branwen in battle. Comparable to Tyrian), higher with Dust Injections (With Lighting Dust, he is strong enough to incapacitate Qrow with a single punch. Can increases his strength even further by injecting more Dust into his body), far higher with Overdose (Knowing he would die against her,[9] he injected an excessive amount of Dust into his body, which enabled him to briefly damage Salem, though was quickly and easily overpowered afterwards)

Speed: FTL Reactions and Combat Speed (Could keep up with Salem's attacks and block them several times, although she was extremally casual. Comparable to Tyrian)

Lifting Strength: Class G (Should be greater than characters such as Post-Beacon Sun. Comparable to Atlas Arc Team RWBY), higher with Dust Injections, far higher with Overdose (Was able to briefly restrain Salem)

Striking Strength: Multi-City Block level, higher with Dust Injection, far higher with Overdose

Durability: Multi-City Block level (Should be comparable to Tyrian), higher with Aura (Aura allows the user to take hits from characters stronger than themselves and acts as a 'health bar' that lets them take multiple hits from characters of similar stature), higher with Dust Injection (Took little damage from Qrow's attack), far higher with Overdose (Should be greater than before) his Aura recovers at an incredible rate, making it very hard to injure him

Stamina: Superhuman (Doesn't feel pain thanks to his Semblance and could even fight after being impaled)

Range: Standard melee range, Dozens of meters with Dust Projectiles

Standard Equipment: Lighting, Fire, Wind, Hard-Light, and Earth Dust Crystals

Intelligence: Above Average (Salem entrusted him to peacefully convince Sienna Khan that attacking Haven Academy would help further her cause. Goes into a mindless rage when dealing with Ozpin, who he holds responsible for the death of his sister)

Weaknesses: Continual damage to his Aura will cause it to decay to the point where he can be left open to more significant damage. Aura's durability is cumulative; it will deplete with each attack he takes and can be brought down by characters of similar strength. While his Aura recovers at a very fast rate this recovery doesn't last forever and apparently has a limit. His Semblance may dull his pain but it doesn't make him invincible, and can still be damaged just like anyone else. When fighting Ozpin, he loses much of his etiquette and sensibility, going from a reserved fighter to a berserker. Constant exposure to extreme temperature can drain the user's Aura.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Numbing Agent: Hazel's Semblance makes him immune to pain, which lets him fight without being worried about his injuries and inject Dust Crystals into his body without feeling intense pain.
  • Dust Crystals: Hazel carries multiple raw Dust Crystals on his person which he can inject into his body, his body proceeds to bulk up as he gains extra power and durability. Normally, Hazel injects one or two at a time. But when he goes all out, he can increase the amount he uses.
