Summary
Gruumsh is the chief deity of Orcs in Dungeons and Dragons, and represents the resentment the race bears towards all others. In a prehistoric age, the gods drew lots for the domains of their children, the mortal races- but Gruumsh was left with nothing, no dominion for his people. So it was that he grew envious and wrathful, challenging the other gods by saying his people would take their dominions by force. He grew most hateful of the elves, for their father deity, Corellon Larethian, struck his other eye from his socket, granting the enraged god his permanent title- "Gruumsh One-Eye".
Gruumsh is well known for his brutality, perhaps moreso than any other god. So great is his wrath that he claimed the first life of a fellow god- the first deicide was done by Gruumsh's hand, on the god Re, progenitor to Re-Horakhty, during the Orcgate Wars. He bore hatred against any number of gods, including Moradin and Garl Glittergold, and had few allies- though among them he counted Asmodeus, Lord of Baator.
Gruumsh is half-responsible for the birth of the Elder Evil Ithyak-Ortheel, alongside Corellon Larethian.
