You can wax on, wax off all you like. I'm still kicking your ass.

May the light of good shine on his soul... Through these... GOD HANDS!

Summary

Gene is the protagonist of the Playstation 2 beat 'em up game God Hand. A 23-year-old, dusty, "have fist will travel" rambler ends up stuck with one of the famed God Hands--with a bunch of nasty demons on his tail--after losing his right arm in defense of a girl from a gang.  Though outspoken and a constant complainer, he has a keen sense of justice.  He likes to imagine he has a gentler, kinder side despite his rough, macho exterior.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-A, higher by releasing the God Hand's power | High 8-C, 8-B by releasing the God Hand's power | At least High 8-C, at least 8-B by releasing the God Hands' power

Key: Early Game (Stages 1-4) | Late Game (Stages 5-9) | Double God Hand Gene

Name: Gene

Origin: God Hand

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Classification: Human, God Hand

Powers and Abilities:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Martial Arts (Detailed in the Intelligence section), Genius Combat Intelligence, Accelerated Development (Able to instantly learn and perform martial arts techniques of various styles just by reading a scroll detailing them), Breaking the Fourth Wall (Openly addressed Elvis as the videogame's first boss fight[1]), Weapon Mastery (Can wield many kinds of weapons and rapidly attack with them), Acrobatics (Can easily execute multiple attacks in the duration of a small hop, quickly backflip to dodge attacks, weave around enemy blows and rapidly leap several meters in the air), Enhanced Senses (Can sense enemies approaching from a distance[2]), BFR (Can launch opponents so far they're reduced to a twinkle in the sky), Status Effect Inducement (Can put opponents in a stunned state by hitting them enough times), Attack Reflection (Can punch cannonballs back at the ship shooting them[3]), Social Influencing (Can convince enemies to be less aggressive with Grovel or enrage them by taunting), limited Summoning (Can summon a frying pan above his head with Dead Pan. After Unleashed Mode runs out, the Deistic Brace will reappear on his arms), Telekinesis (Chain Yanker allows Gene to pull enemies towards him), Explosion Manipulation (Moves such as Daisy Cutter and God Stomp 2 unleash explosions as they're being performed, hurting enemies), Energy Projection (Various God Hand techniques such as Head Slicer allow Gene to shoot or wield energy through his God Hand), Weapon Creation and Energy Manipulation (Can construct weapons with the God Hand's energy, such as a baseball bat and baseball respectively with Home Run God and Wild Pitch), Vibration Manipulation (Can cause shockwaves with several moves, such as God Stomp, Shockwave and La Bomba), Air Manipulation (Gene can create a whirlwind around himself with Typhoon Kick), Statistics Amplification (By unleashing his God Hand, Gene can greatly increase his power and speed for a short amount of time with Unleashed Mode or greatly power up a single attack by using a Roulette Wheel move.[4] He can also increase the strength of his moves by charging them or using his chi), Chi Manipulation (Can harness his chi to deal out extremely powerful blows), limited Afterimage Creation (Gene is surrounded by slight afterimages as he dodges attacks), Electricity Manipulation and Paralysis Inducement (The Stun Rod weapon delivers a paralyzing shock to foes), Purification (Rosaries allow Gene to pass through haunted doors by getting rid of the force sealing them)

All previous abilities plus limited Invulnerability (Gene is, for unexplained reasons, unaffected by enemy attacks as he's performing Invincible Fist), Mind Manipulation (Can hypnotize foes, temporarily stunning them.[5] Should have the same powers as Azel, who mind-controlled Olivia[6]), limited Fire Manipulation (Godly techniques often coat Gene's arms in fire as he's performing them)

All previous abilities to a greater extent plus Sealing (The man who originally wielded the god hands used them to seal away Angra.[7] After defeating Angra, Gene sealed him away once again[6]), enhanced Energy Projection (Can now rapid-fire Shaolin Blasts, and seal away beings with them[6]), Berserk Mode (When the Double God Hand Gene bonus boss is enraged, he will hit even harder and behave more aggressively. He will sometimes enter this state while he's being attacked, immediately breaking out of the combo), enhanced Fire Manipulation (Gene's attacks can now set the air around them ablaze as he performs them)

Attack Potency: Small Building level (Can launch Gorilla Mask into the sky at incredible speeds and destroy large pillars), Small Building level+ by releasing the God Hand's power (Unleashing the God Hand multiplies the user's power by 1.5x[8]) | Large Building level+ (Can defeat Elvis' true demon form, which Elvis described as a hundred times stronger[9] than the human shape which Gene had previously fought twice, as well as launch it out of view despite its massive size and weight. Was capable of defeating Azel, who was capable of one-shotting all of the Three Evil Stooges,[10] who despite their overall incompetence could fight early game Gene. Even just by upgrading his techniques Gene can multiply his power from an earlier state by several times[8]), City Block level by releasing the God Hand's power | At least Large Building level+ (Now owns both God Hands, greatly increasing his power. Defeated the Demon King Angra, who's far stronger than the Four Devas that previously gave him trouble. A likely non-canonical bonus boss fight against a Double God Hand Gene, fought as Gene with only one God Hand, shows him to be much more powerful, barely suffering damage, only taking scratch damage from just about any attack and inflicting much more in return), at least City Block level by releasing the God Hands' power

Speed: Supersonic+ (Can punch cannonballs at this speed. Able to dodge missiles[11] and arrows), higher by releasing the God Hand's power (His speed is greatly increased faster in Unleashed Mode, to the point that he or Azel can dodge almost every single attack from previously comparable foes and attack at overwhelming speeds) | At least Supersonic+ (Faster than before, can avoid Ravel's electric attacks[12]), higher by releasing the God Hands' power | At least Supersonic+, higher by releasing the God Hands' power (Should be faster than before)

Lifting Strength: At least Class 5 (Leaped on top of a massive mech.[13] Even fodder enemies can wield large Kanabō maces and throw large metal rings, and Gene is much stronger than them) | At least Class 25 (Equal to Azel, who could rip off his own God Hand.[6] Ripping off a normal arm is this strong, and the God Hand should be much more durable.. Can rip out jail cell bars[14] and lamp posts then use them as weapons) | At least Class 25 (Much stronger than before)

Striking Strength: Small Building level, Small Building level+ by releasing the God Hand's power | Large Building level+, City Block level by releasing the God Hand's power | At least Large Building level+, at least City Block level by releasing the God Hands' power

Durability: Small Building level, Small Building level+ by releasing the God Hand's power | Large Building level+, City Block level by releasing the God Hand's power | At least Large Building level+, at least City Block level by releasing the God Hands' power

Stamina: At least Peak Human (Can get back up and fight right after being pummeled or tossed around by enemies, chewed by large demons, punched in the groin, slammed around telekinetically, zapped with electricity and hit with many kinds of takedowns from enemies and bosses, such as back-breakers or suplexes. Fought Azel and the Demon King Angra one right after the other, defeating both after tough fights)

Range: Standard Melee Range, Extended Melee Range with Weapon Creation and certain techniques, Tens of Meters with powers

Standard Equipment: Deistic Brace (A seal placed on his God Hand to limit its power) | Same as before | None

  • Optional Equipment: Various weapons found on the ground or taken from enemies. Gene can execute rapid or strong attacks with most weapons, or throw them so hard they instantly shatter for massive damage.
    • Bar: Yanked out of the ground, a long iron bar that used to be part of a jail cell in which demons imprisoned humans.
    • Bus Stop Sign
    • Explosive Drum: A large red drum that explodes when thrown.
    • RPG: A rocket launcher with one single powerful missile in it. Can be used as a melee weapon after the missile is shot.
    • Pipe
    • Japanese Umbrella
    • Scimitar
    • Stun Rod: An electrified metal rod. Unimpressive in power, but can stun enemies with a single hit.
    • Timber
    • Trident: A weapon created and used by Great Specters, and dropped by them when defeated.
    • Kanabō: An enormous spiked mace.
    • Katana
    • Mallet
    • Rosary: Not a true weapon, but a holy artifact that can be used to weaken and dispel demonic barriers blocking Gene's advance.

Intelligence: Average normally (Gene seems to be a bit gullible and clumsy sometimes, although he is seemingly skilled at Poker and Blackjack), Genius regarding combat (Gene is an incredibly skilled and versatile martial artist, able to learn and utilize techniques pertaining to different styles such as boxing, kung fu or drunken fist just by reading scrolls that contain information about them, and string them together in incredibly effective combos. He can quickly weave between enemy attacks unharmed, escape enemy grabs, juggle enemies by keeping them in the air with a myriad of blows, launch an enemy with a kick to hurt other enemies behind them, break his enemy's guard with a single strike, simultaneously dodge and attack the enemy with a lower stanced attack and pull off many more stunts with his incredibly versatile combat knowledge. Has fought the Devas, great demons with at least hundreds of years of combat experience, and bested them all. Can undertake and complete over 50 different challenges in the Fighting Ring, including ones that require him to win without suffering any damage, under a time limit, or without his Roulette Wheel's abilities, and the Little Devil's own timed challenges)

Weaknesses: None notable

Notable Attacks/Techniques: Underlined moves are only available in Gene's second and third key.

  • Roulette Wheel: Known as the GOD REEL in the Japanese version of the game, the Roulette Wheel is used to select attacks focused around the God Hand's abilities. While Gene's usage of them is limited by tokens he can find, this is a gameplay mechanic, as both Azel, whose powers are identical to Gene, and a boss version of Gene himself, can use Roulette Wheel moves without such restrictions. This video showcases all Roulette Wheel moves except for Dead Pan.
    • Grovel: Gene gets down to the floor and prostrates, apologizing to his foes, causing them to point and laugh. Lowers enemy aggression.
    • Dead Pan: Exclusive to the Japanese version of the game. A frying pan drops out of nowhere on Gene's head, causing a bit of damage but making him invincible for a few seconds.
    • Ball Buster: Gene fakes out a powerful attack while turning around and kicking the opponent in the groin, stunning them for several seconds. Doesn't work on women and other characters who would logically not be vulnerable to this kind of attack.
    • Chain Yanker: Gene pulls the enemy towards himself even from a distance, then immediately hits them with a punch that stuns them.
    • Daisy Cutter: Gene dashes forward, launching hit enemies in the air with his elbow before activating a delayed fireworks explosion.
    • Divine Smash/Divine Smash 2: Gene dashes forward, launching all hit enemies forward with great force. Divine Smash 2 adds a fiery explosion to this.
    • Face Runner: Gene jumps at his enemies' head height, delivering a series of bycicle kicks to the face before landing and roundhouse kicking them.
    • Typhoon Kick: Gene jumps and performs a spinning kick that causes powerful winds to launch away enemies.
    • God Charge/Spirit of God: Gene yells, bringing himself closer to the ability to enter Unleashed Mode if he is currently unable to.
    • God Stomp/God Stomp 2: Gene delivers an overhead kick before stomping his opponent's head into the ground multiple times, hard enough to create a crater, and with God Stomp 2, an explosion.
    • Head Slicer: Gene executes a hand chop, beheading enemies he hits.
    • Kung Fu Samba: Gene swings his arms around in a windmill attack moving forward before launching the opponent away.
    • La Bomba/La Bomba 2: Gene punches the ground with the God Hand, causing a shockwave and, with the upgraded version of the move, an explosion.
    • One Inch Punch: Gene executes the infamous one inch punch, touching his opponent with the tip of his palm before rapidly closing it and punching forward with great strength.
    • Shockwave/Shockwave 2: Gene punches the ground, shooting forward one wave of energy, or three with Shockwave 2.
    • 100 Fists: Gene rapidly punches the enemy with the God Hand, before hitting them with an uppercut so powerful they're reduced to a twinkle in the sky.
    • Crescent Kick: Gene executes a triple spinning kick before landing and kicking the enemy away.
    • Dragon Kick: Gene kicks the opponent so hard they're reduced to a twinkle in the sky.
    • Discombobulator: Gene jumps in front of his enemies and delivers a quick series of kicks before launching them away.
    • Home Run God: Gene uses the God Hand to create a baseball bat made of energy, then bats the enemy away so hard they're reduced to a twinkle in the sky)
    • Wild Pitch: Gene generates a baseball made of energy with the God Hand, then pitches it forward with great strength.
    • Zen Revival/Enlightenment: Partially/Fully heals himself.
    • Shaolin Blast: Focuses energy in the God Hand before shooting forward an incredibly powerful, hand-shaped energy blast. If Gene has both God Hands, he can rapid-fire them.
    • Double Shaolin Blast: Focuses energy in both God Hands before shooting two Shaolin Blasts. Can only be executed if Gene has both God Hands.

  • Techniques: Various martial arts techniques learned by Gene. Note that this only lists officially named techniques that Gene can switch around in gameplay does not include dodges, prompts, pummels or unnamed, fixed techniques, which are instead listed in Other. These videos showcase all techniques. When multiple versions of a move or numbered versions are listed together, that means the move is upgraded in power throughout the game.

    • Invincible Fist: "Ignore your limits and strike with invincibility!" Gene's most powerful normal technique. He leans backwards while preparing an incredibly powerful blow that cannot be blocked and launches enemies away. Somehow, he is completely invincible while preparing this move.

  • Other: (Prompts and pummels can all be seen here, while fixed techniques can be seen here and dodges are explained here)
    • Unleashed Mode: Gene temporarily removes the Deistic Brace off his God Hand, releasing its full power and greatly increasing his speed and power. After a while, the Deistic Brace automatically reappears on his arm. As shown by Azel and Gene's own behavior as boss fights, he seemingly cannot remove the Brace again for a brief while after the end of Unleashed Mode. While Double God Hand Gene no longer wears the Deistic Brace, he can still temporarily power up with his God Hands in a similar fashion.
    • Dash: Gene runs as fast as he can, and can execute a few special moves while running.
      • Flying Cross Chop: Gene leaps forward, rolling on the ground while quickly chopping forward with both hands.

    • Sway: Gene slides to his enemy's side, dodging their attack and putting himself in a great opportunity to counter.
    • Taunt: Gene polishes his bicep or points at the enemy, mocking them and making them enraged.
    • Dragon Punch: Gene uppercuts an airborne enemy, leaping several meters into the air while knocking them upwards, setting up for more Dragon Punches or a Roundhouse Kick
    • Axe Kick: A powerful attack, which can be charged for even more damage. Can follow up into a launch kick.
    • Launch Kick: Gene rapidly kicks his opponent a couple meters in the air, allowing for a Dragon Punch or a Roundhouse Kick
    • Mid-Air Roundhouse Kick: Gene jumps while delivering a powerful roundhouse kick, launching the opponent forward with great strength.

    • Spanking: Gene places the enemy on his knees and rapidly spanks them, finishing it off with a more powerful spank. Gene will only use this on female enemies.
    • Stake Driver: Gene executes a powerful axe kick, trapping the enemy it hits into the ground up to their chest. Only usable on very short enemies.
    • Stinger: Gene grabs an enemy by the head and proceeds to rapidly kneed them in the face, before suplexing them.
    • Suplex: Gene grabs an opponent from behind and suplexes them. Can also be used as a counter to other enemies trying to suplex him.
    • Poke of God: Gene taps an enemy that's one hit from dying, killing them with a simple poke.

Note: While Gene is invincible while unleashing the God Hand's full power, this is likely just a gameplay mechanic, as bosses capable of doing the same only become much faster and stronger, but remain vulnerable to attacks.
