For centuries I have schemed, setting events in motion that would lead to this day. I have taken the memories of the one that guarded the gates, corrupted their worthless heroes, and manipulated those hungry for power. It is time. Begin the invasion!
~ Gargos[1]

Why do you aid these pitiful Earth-beings, Jago? It is time for you to join your brothers by my side and together we can rule this universe for eternity!

Did you think a single sword could kill me? That I would not be prepared? That my soul would not flee its flesh for the refuge of the Astral Plane? I am the Shadow Lord! You have no power over me!
~ Gargos to Tusk

Inside the portal, on the outer reaches of the universe, awaits a mighty force. Their scouts have already infiltrated Earth, supplanting those who might pose a threat to this army... and their arrival is an omen of the coming invasion [...] Using Aganos's siphoned power, Kan-Ra opens the portal and awaits his army. But instead a lone being exits, a creature so old it makes Kan-Ra's immortal life seem like a grain of sand in an hourglass. And for the first time in thousands of years, the sorcerer feels fear. He has brought about the age of a new God... and mankind has no place in it.
~ The Narrator[3]

Summary

Gargos is an ancient, evil and extremely powerful creature from the Astral Plane, whose only goal is to endlessly extend his dominion and rule with an iron fist. As the only evil member of his kind, he was considered an outcast and his fellow Ichoriens always opposed his conquest of other dimensions, helping mortal beings in every way they could. Gargos's first attempt of conquering Earth was thwarted by Eyedol and Tusk, who were titled as champions of the gods and bestowed the power to repel the invaders. Seeking a way to increase his power and obtain revenge, Gargos ravaged the Astral Plane until he slew every single Ichorien, stealing their powers and finally crowning himself Shadow Lord. Not even his old rival Eyedol could defeat him, and eventually he too fell dead on the battlefield. To prevent the incoming catastrophe, the Guardians - benevolent inhabitants of the Astral Plane - fled to other worlds and sealed the way behind them, trapping the Shadow Lord into his realm.

Gargos schemed and plotted for the centuries that came, setting events in motion and manipulating events that would lead to his return. With his powers and keeness, Gargos manipulated a number of earthlings, such as Jago and Kan-Ra, until the seal that trapped him was broken. Now free to act, Gargos attacked Earth, casting a corrupting force on the planet and scattering his forces everywhere. Setting their differences aside, heroes and villains of Earth grouped together to face the common threat and eventually seizing victory after a great war. And yet it wasn't the end for Gargos, as he survived once again and managed to retreat to his world. The final clash is only delayed, for as long as Gargos lives, the universe will not be safe.

The lightnings powered by his Shadow Energy generated a continental shockwave[12]), likely Star level (Mimics claim he can destroy whole suns.[2] His battle with Eyedol was described to be like an explosion of stars[4]). Varies with Mimics (They become progressively stronger as Gargos's influence expands, until they become as strong as their original counterpart, if not more), at most Wall level+ with Izziks and Dretchs (Can deal significant damage to the rest of the cast, but can also be easily defeated by them)

Shadow Lord
Shadow Lord
  • Shadow Lord: An artifact that bears the same name of its master. It automatically restores half of Gargos health if he falls in battle. This effect applies only when the Shadow Lord is in Gargos's possession.

Optional Equipment: Any amount of the aforementioned artifacts up to all of them

Intelligence: Genius (A cunning individual with millions of years behind him. Can lead an invasion on a global scale all by himself, set events in motion that would come into fruition centuries later and several of his schemes and back-up plans have succeeded. He is always very careful and takes as many precautions as necessary before exposing himself to any risk, preferring to neutralize possible threats beforehand and without having to intervene directly. Manipulated Jago by disguising himself as the Tiger Spirit, and Kan-Ra with his telepathic abilities. Mastered the control of Shadow Energy, from which most of his powers stem. Designed his own fighting style and has experience in fighting a variety of different opponents with special abilities)

Weaknesses: His true form may be unable to interact with physical beings in a conventional way, and it might be impossible for him to either maintain an incorporeal form in the Mundane Plane or enter it at all. Warg-gram is one of the only weapons capable of causing him mortal damage.

Notes: Tusk and Gargos being stated to having been born as equals shouldn't be used to consider strength being equal as well, because such notion is contradicted by several statements and showings. It may also be a reference to how both of their most relevant powers stem from the Ichoriens. Gargos not receiving any burn from Jago's Endokuken is labeled as "possibly" due to the possibility of being simple art inconsistency.

Combat Traits:

  • Minion Summoning: Gargos opens a rift in space and summons a minion. He can call two types of servants: The blue Izzik and the red Dretch. The former wields a trident and will poke the opponent with it, while the latter is more bulky and will attack with a tackle. An entire race of Izziks and Dretches exists, making it hard for Gargos to run out of servants.
    • Minion Command: Gargos commands his minions, ordering them to stay close to him for a defensive Cover, to send them to battle with an offensive Creep or activate their Kill mode.
    • Kill: The minions become more aggressive and prone to perform their special attack. The Izzik spins on itself at high speed, slashing the opponent with his trident, and then Dretch will jump high into the air and drop on the opponent.
  • Devil's Divide: Similarly to the homonym special move, Gargos grabs his minions and performs one on the following actions:
    • Sadistic Drop: Gargos throws his minion in an arc.
    • Sadistic Hurl: Gargos violently tosses the minion towards the opponent.
    • Sadistic Appetite: Gargos opens his mouth and absorbs the minion, restoring part of his Instinct energy.
    • Sadistic Intent: Gargos releases the minion.
    • Cruel Inspiration: Gargos pummels the minion in order to restore their Kill attack if they have already performed it.

  • Multiple Jump: Gargos flaps his wings to gain additional jumps
  • Scorn: Gargos thrusts forward with his hands open, causing a burst of Shadow Energy.
  • Insolence: Gargos flaps his wings downward and generates a pillar of Shadow Energy.

Gargos grabs the opponent and uppercuts them with his open hand.

  • Oblivion: Gargos punches a portal, making his fist emerge from another portal near the opponent. With this move Gargos can hit the opponent from a great variety of angles, and even chain together several punches. The Shadow version is a stronger barrage of punches.
  • Reckoning: Gargos attacks with a flying tackle while twirling on himself. This move can also be performed in mid-air. Alternatively, Gargos can fly upward into a portal, then emerge from another portal above the opponent and slam them down. The Shadow version is stronger.
  • Devil's Divide: Gargos grabs the opponent by the neck, lifts them up and performs one of the following moves:
    • Sadistic Drop: Gargos flies upward, dragging the opponent into a portal. Moments after he returns in an upside-down position, slamming the opponent into the ground. Shadow Devil's Divide is an enhanced version of this move, with Gargos flying several times across two portals in order to build momentum before smashing the opponent down.
    • Sadistic Hurl: Gargos tosses the opponent away.
    • Sadistic Appetite: Gargos opens his mouth and siphons the opponent's Shadow Energy.
    • Sadistic Intent: Gargos releases the opponent.
    • Spite: Gargos pummels the opponent before performing another action.

  • Stoneskin: Gargos laughs and coats his whole body with a stone armor. In this form he becomes heavier and slower, but he is also able to power through most attacks, reducing the damage taken and avoid being staggered.
    • Eruption: Gargos explodes his stone skin, scattering the fragments around.

Gargos fights primarily with techniques that resemble human martial arts, such as punches, kicks, knees, elbows and open hand strikes, with the addition of thrusts and swipes with his wings and claws. With his third body he gained two additional arms and long bony blades, with which he can attack and defend from a distance and deliver multiple blows at the same time. Gargos doesn't fight alone, as his minions often take part in battle; despite their weakness, they act as nuisances for the opponent and energy supplies for the Shadow Lord himself. With his portals and the ability to fly, Gargos often maintains the distance, evades enemy attacks and assaults the opponent from the air.

Sadistic and megalomaniac, Gargos loves torturing his victims and often helds back, unleashing his true power only later in the fight when he grows bored. However, he seemingly limits this approach to enemies he knows for sure being vastly inferior to him (such as Jago, Tusk and Tusk) and won't drag the battle for too long anyway. In fact, Gargos is very cautious against comparable opponents, exploiting his special powers or figuring out ways to make the battle easier for him, such as when he purposedly deceived Eyedol into chasing chimeras for a long time, approaching the ogre in battle only when he had grown tired.

Gargos has no respect for life and he isn't stranger to murdering the opponent when given the occasion. He may reserve special treatments to certain opponents, such as siphoning dry those with plenty of Shadow Energy within them or banish some to other dimensions or confining them within objects.

Combos

The Ichoriens were the kind inhabitants of the Astral Plane, godlike beings known for their ability to manipulate the Shadow Energy filling their realm. Legends tell that they were formed from the light of the stars[2] in the Astral Plane. But Gargos, despite being of the same race, exists as a complete antithesis to them, a being pure of pure evil birthed inside the depths of a black hole.

The Ichoriens don't have a physical form and exists as purely spiritual intangible entities. Tusk's memories solidify the notion, describing them as Towering creatures made of light[8] [...] beings comprised of pure energy, glowing like ice and stars. Likewise, Gargos's actual form is that of an independent soul, which creates bodies to possess and interact with the Mundane Plane and its inhabitants. Although not confirmed, the ominous entity Kan-Ra describes as a "mighty force" could be a representation of Gargos's true form, the immaterial spirit resembling the Omens, Gargos's loyal minions of his own creation.

As his power grows the more Shadow Energy he accumulates, he creates new and more powerful bodies capable of sustaining his strength, each with new and eightened characteristics, while the old one fades into nothing. Whenever a vessel is slain, Gargos's soul can leave it and return[10] to the Astral Plane. The process of "dying" is taxing and deprives[2] Gargos of the Shadow Energy he has stolen, forcing him to rest and try to re-absorb the lost energy while a new body is crafted.

Shadow Energy is a source of power mainly found in the Astral Plane, but it also exists in limited quantities within the inhabitants of the Mundane Plane. However, only very few people are able to harness and manipulate such energy. Its most basic property is to passively increase one's statistics proportionally to the amount of Shadow Energy they own. Shadow Energy is very malleable and can be used for a variety of purposes, although only expert wielders, such as the Shadow Lords, are able to use its full potential.

Gargos possesses masterful control over Shadow Energy, thus his title of Shadow Lord. The most basic use is to enhance the strength and properties of his Special Moves, turning them into Shadow Moves. Initially these attacks were depicted as marked by a dense and iridescent trail that followed the user, but it was later changed into a purple aura that surrounds the user entirely. Because of his mastery, Gargos employs Shadow Energy in a great variety of ways, as most of his special powers stem from it.

Although it never leaves the user's body under normal conditions, there is an unknown limit to how many times an individual can summon this energy to perform Shadow Moves, before needing to let it recharge, a thing that can also happen in the midst of a battle. The only known downside of emptying one's reserves of Shadow Energy is the inability to perform Shadow Moves, as strength and other statistics don't seem to be affected by this temporary loss.

One of the main methods utilized by Gargos to increase his strength is to absorb Shadow Energy from his opponents and the environment, an example being his Sadistic Appetite technique. After his first defeat on Earth, he exacted revenge[2] against his fellow Ichoriens, slaying them all and siphoning[6] their powers.

Gargos performed his greatest feat right after his invasion of Earth failed. When Warg-gram pierced Gargos's heart, his bodu couldn't sustain all of its Shadow Energy anymore, resulting in its complete annihilation and the scattering of Shadow Energy across the planet and upon the fighters who gave their contribution to the war. In this weakened state, Gargos's soul fled to the Astral Plane and set up a plan to retrieve was was once his. He created a large cocoon capable of leeching energy from the Earth itself and feed it to Gargos. In the next two years the world sickened, progressively losing its life and light. At the same time, all supernatural creatures on the planet grew weaker as their energy was being stolen. Acting like a battery, the cocoon could also trap the Guardian Spirits and drain them of their energy.[14] [11] [15] [9]

Gargos holds unparalleled mastery when it comes to opening intra and interdimensional portals. They are involved in several of Gargos's techniques, but are also utilized to to cross any distance in a whim, banish enemies to other places (including a realm known as Great Abyss[2]), summon and dispatch minions, spread corruption and shoot lightnings right through them. Such portals can reach the size of entire continents, appear in large quantities around a planet and remain open until someone forces their closure.

In the Astral Plane certain powerful creatures - such as Gargos - have the power to force reality to bend to their imaginings[6] and create living beings through sheer force of will. Gargos uses this power to bring a variety of creatures into existence and fill the ranks of his army.

Mimics

The Mimics are the main units of Gargos's army since thousands of years.[16] They are doppelgängers of the strongest warriors found on the planet he sets his eyes on, and get created over an unknown timeframe before and during an invasion. They share the same traits of their original counterpart, from abilities to personality, but they are blindly loyal to Gargos and worship him as a god.

Some Mimics possess unique abilities on top of those inherited from their counterparts, although there doesn't seem to be a precise consistency across each individual. Such powers include sensing souls, breaking seals, teleportation and casting spells that petrify the victim or block their connection to Shadow Energy.[2]

Omens

Spiritual beings made of pure Shadow Energy that take physical form upon leaving the Astral Plane. They are almost identical to the most notable of the Omens, although they differ in terms of personality and may don a different mask. In war they guard the portals that feed Gargos's power into a planet and own one of Gargos's artifacts (such as the Fangs of Gargos), although they will return them to their master once he makes his appearance during the final stages of an invasion.

Antibodies

Monstrous humanoids whose task is to protect Gargos while he heals. They are weaker than other minions and rely more on sheer numbers rather than strength, possibly because of Gargos having been in a wounded state at the moment of their creation. They assault the intruders and retreat if they prove too strong, waiting for reinforcements to show up.[9]

Upon invading a planet, Gargos spreads his Shadow Energy over its surface, transforming it in order to feed his own power.[2] Such corruption is released by portals guarded by Omens and Mimics, which recurrently open all across the globe as time goes on. The only way to dimish its effects is to defeat Gargos's forces and close the openings, which can be proven extremely difficult because of the sheer amount of portals acting simultaneously and the chaotic events the occur in the meantime. A planet like Earth can be fully corrupted over a period of 6 days, if no relevant action is taken to oppose the process. Gargos himself will patiently wait in the Astral Plane until most of the planet has fallen under his influence, and only then will he join the battle.

Gargos conquest of a planet is always preceeded by preparations meant to assure his victory, even spanning across many years, as his immortality grants him as much time as he needs. His agents will scout the targeted world preemptively, and in conjunction with Gargos himself they aim to weaken possible threats or sway them by their side with promises of power. Some actions taken in the past include deceiving Jago to let Omen possess him, manipulating Kan Ra into freeing Gargos, sending Shadow Jago to murder Kim Wu and Tusk (eventually wiping out the memories of the latter), attempting to convince Sadira to betray ARIA and gaining the allegiance of the vampire society known as the Coven. Rumors of Gargos's incoming arrival also led many humans to start worshipping the Shadow Lord as a god, which later grouped into a cult that provided support to the invading army during the great war.

An invasion begins with the opening of many portals around a planet, which spread corruption that increase Gargos's power and spew forth Mimics, Omens and other minions. In the days that follow Gargos's army proceeds wreak havok all across the globe, doing anything they can to undermine possible forms of resistance. Even if the defenders managed to push back the invaders and lower the levels of corruption, portals keep opening to a seemingly endless rate, as Gargos simply creates more soldiers and patiently waits in the Astral Plane. He will show up only when victory is almost assured, with the majority of the planet corrupted and his power at maximum.
