G.I. Joe started off as a line of action figures produced and owned by the toy company Hasbro. The initial product offering represented branches of the U.S. armed forces. The name derived from the usage of "G.I. Joe" for the generic U.S. soldier, itself derived from the more general term "G.I.". The development of G.I. Joe led to the coining of the term "action figure". G.I. Joe's appeal to children has made it an American icon among toys.

The G.I. Joe trademark has been used by Hasbro for several different toy lines, with various stories mainly revolving around an ongoing struggle between the G.I. Joe Team and the Cobra Command which seeks to take over the Free World through terrorism. The members of the G.I. Joe team are not portrayed to have superpowers, but they still have peak human to superhuman physical attributes, plus expertise in many areas such as martial arts, weapons, explosives, vehicles, and other military functions.

G.I. Joe began in 1964 as a line of 12-inch articulated action figures produced by Hasbro. In 1982, the line was relaunched with the smaller 3¾" scale complete with vehicles and playsets, and the relaunch pioneered several tactics in toy marketing, combining traditional advertising with a new cartoon miniseries and an ongoing comic book.

In 2009, the first live action film was released under the title, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. A second film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation was released in 2013. A third film titled G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant has been confirmed to be on development, with a spin-off film centered around Snake Eyes also in early development to be released on 2020.

Power of this Verse

Within its own storyline, the G.I. Joe story development tries to match with the real world and hence do not have crazy superpowers and hax. Most characters are Athletic Human to Wall level, with most firearms and vehicles capable of dealing wall level to small building level damage.
