Fulgore is about to deliver the death-blow when something strange happens. An error. A glitch. It will be repaired. It will be reprogrammed... but will the fleeting memory remain, like a virus?
~ The Narrator[1]

Summary

Fulgore is one of the main characters of Killer Instinct (2013). He is one of many other Fulgores Mark 03, the third model of battle robots developed by Ultratech to be perfect and merciless soldiers. This specific Fulgore is different from the others, as ARIA's experiments turned it into something more than a simple machine. It became what she calls a primitive "Noömorph", an AI created from a copied consciousness. When Eagle entered the first Killer Instinct tournament, his skill impressed ARIA so much that she decided to capture him and use his mind as the foundation for her most ambitious project. Her goal to move her consciousness into a humanoid body, but in order to succeed she had to perfect the inverse process first. And so Eagle's neural network was copied and placed into the body of a Fulgore.

Such human component makes the his performances better than those of the others', which possess the same built but are limited by their nature of cold machines. Fulgore is ultimately enslaved to Ultratech, and generally follows the orders given by his programming, but he has exhibited rebellious behavior from time to time, such as when he refused to deliver the finishing blow on Thunder, Eagle's brother. Despite this, ARIA considers him a valuable asset, and does everything she can to keep him from being completely destroyed, and he has proven his worth in several occasions, especially the great war against the Shadow Lord Gargos.

Range: Standard melee range, several meters with projectiles, up to planetary with Optional Equipment.

Standard Equipment: None notable.

Optional Equipment: Crafting Materials, Consumables, Artifacts and Guardians

Intelligence: Unknown, likely Gifted in combat (Despite possessing a copy of Eagle's consciousness, Fulgore's AI is almost completely enslaved to Ultratech and forced to follow his programming, leaving no room for free thought, as he is forced to act as the killing machine he was meant to be. He is expert in stealth and combat, and by blending Eagle's fighting skills and the Fulgore natural potential, he is able to match and defeat opponents that would make short work of the standard Fulgores. ARIA considers him one of her best and most trusted minions, and her evaluations classify[4] him as[5] more[6] dangerous[7] than Sabrewulf, Sadira and Thunder. During the war against Gargos, he was able to successfully complete many different missions around the world, with many of them being about battling Gargos' army of Mimics, Omens and other creatures from the Astral Plane, as well as rescuing civilians caught up in the disorders)

Weaknesses: His electrical functions can be fully disabled by an EMP burst[3]. Extreme heat causes normal Fulgore units to malfunction[8] and go rogue, although it is unknown if Eagle's consciouscness can interfere with this.

Note: Despite being called cyborg multiple times, there is no evidence or indication of him having any organic part within his body.

Combat Traits:

  • Gravity Strike: Fulgore swings his claws Downward.
  • Axis Slash: Fulgore spins on himself, slashing the opponent twice.
  • Thruster Kick: Fulgore delivers a side kick while propelled by his thursters.

Fulgore skewers the opponent with his claws, lifts them up and tosses them away.

  • Blade Dash: Fulgore dashes forward with his claws stretched out and spinning like a drill. This move can be charged, to increase speed, range and damage. Shadow Energy makes the technique even stronger.
  • Eye Laser: Fulgore fires a laser beam from his eyes at different angles. Shadow Energy allows Fulgore to fire this beam five times in a row, even from mid-air. This laser is his highly heated, to the point that it generates small fiery explosions on the ground, and a single shot is enough to burn through the flesh and bones[2] of warriors of the caliber of Maya, killing them[2] on the spot.
  • Energy Bolt/Plasma Storm: Fulgore outstretches his claws and releases up to three bolts of plasma. The Shadow version consists in a larger and more powerful projectile. Due to the high temperatures plasma can reach, Energy Bolt is an extremely dangerous attack, which can burn through even high-level Ultratech body armors[3].
  • Plasma Slice: Fulgore uppercuts the opponent while propelled by his thrusters. The Shadow version is stronger.
  • Plasmaport: Fulgore turns invisible and teleports to another place. With the Shadow version Fulgore appears behind the opponent and performs a Shadow Blade Dash.
  • Charge Reactor: Fulgore charges up his reactor. He can perform a quick charge, gaining a single pip, or an extended one, gaining more pips but remaining vulnerable. While performing this move, Fulgore turns invisible at times.
  • Devastation Beam: Fulgore's signature attack, which can be unleashed only when his reactor is fully charged. Fulgore opens up his chest plate and releases a powerful laser beam that deals massive damage at the cost of leaving his reactor out of charge.

  • Blast Core: Fulgore presses a combination of buttons on his wrist and enters this special state, with energy overflowing from his body for a limited time. While Blast Core is active, Fulgore can string together all the Special Moves he wants without having to consume any pip of his reactor.

Fulgore's most powerful technique. He presses a combination of buttons on his wrist, then kicks the opponent away. Fulgore flies high into the air, opens his chest plate and charges up his reactor beyond normal levels. The result is the release of a Devastation Beam of enormous size, which engulfes the opponent completely. They attempt to defend themselves, but such effort is futile, as as their body is utterly vaporized by the massive heat of the beam. A final explosion occurs, after which Fulgore lands on the ashes of his opponent, with the last flames still burning all around on charred ground.

Fulgore's_Ultimate

Fulgore is designed to be a merciless and efficient killing machine, and thus is full-bent on exterminating his target as quick as possible. With his variety of heat-based weapons, he is a dangerous opponent from both close and wide range distance, and is as well designed for both types of combat, although he might prefer the former, as it speeds up the charge of his reactor. He is prone to silently strike the opponent using stealth maneuvers when possible, and to also turn invisible at the start of a fight or in the middle of a combo, in order to disorient the opponent and increasing the chances of dealing a lethal attack. Eagle's cleverness, skill and fighting style are added to the standard Fulgore programming, which is the result of years of research on fighting performed by Ultratech. This results in a formidable warrior, who stands at the top of his kind, as no other Fulgore has ever achieved the same results in combat.

  • Martial Arts: Fulgore's programming features its own way of fighting designed by Ultratech to be better than any human fighter, but this unit is also known for[9] employing Eagle's style. Such unique approach to martial arts is shown by Fulgore utilizing every part of his body for both traditional techniques and new attacks unique to one like him. Although he isn't designed to perform acrobatic maneuvers, Fulgore can effortlessy attack even when he leaves the ground.

Combos

Fulgore is the peak of Ultratech technology, a complex machine that surpasses several prototypes and two previous models. A variety of weapons, devices and protocols are integrated into his system, with the purpose of making him the perfect warrior.

  • Brain Core: The most important component which makes Fulgore so unique, as it is the place where Eagle's neural network resides. Located in the back of Fulgore's head, the brain core is protected by multiple self-destruct and defensive mechanisms to keep it from falling in possession of Ultratech enemies. The only way to remove it safely from its access box is through a delicate process that involves cutting wires and using several Ultratech-made tools, such as magnets, wrenches and more. The brain core is highly adaptable and will take over the bodies of other Fulgore units if placed into them, unless they aren't equipped with Ryatmag™ slot-lock, which should theoretically prevent that from happening. Fulgore's consciousness will never vanish until the brain core is intact, as damage such as decapitation][10] or the destruction of the main body will only incapacitate the unit. Even removing it from the Fulgore's head won't harm it. It is also mildly radioactive, and it is suggested to not pick up small children for two weeks after handling it.
  • Self-Destruction Mechanisms: As previously stated, Fulgore's body features several self-destruction protocols that would trigger if the brain core isn't removed safely. Further explosives are placed into the chest plate[1], ready to detonate whenever someone tears it away without doing it in the correct way.
  • Automatic Reactions: Several of Fulgore's defensive mechanisms do not need to be directly activated, as they are programmed to react in response to external inputs:
    • The aforementioned self-destruction mechanisms.
    • The Defensive Rollout Maneuver, meant to preserve all of Fulgore's body parts and keep them from falling into enemy hands. It is performed when the vibration detector perceives something while the Fulgore unit is incapacitated.
    • The Devastation Beam, which will be automatically let forth[3] if the Ryatmag™ isn't placed precisely when trying to unlock the box containing the brain core in Fulgore's head.
    • A lithium battery programmed to trigger in responde to EMB bursts.
  • Reflector: An energy shield[3] powered by Fulgore's lithium battery. It will offer protection up to 18 hours, and prolonged exposure to the shield’s low frequency emission may cause internal bleeding, psychotic hallucinations, depression and damage to the spleen.
  • Plasma Blades: A pair of claws mounted on both Fulgore's forearms and empowered by plasma. They can also spin around Fulgore's forearms, acting like drills and increasing their effectiveness.
  • Thrusters: Booster placed into Fulgore's feet and elbows. On the ground, they are used to enhance Fulgore's jumps, move him faster when dashing, bypassing actions such as walking, and adding momentum to techniques such as Blade Dash and Plasma Slice. With them, Fulgore can also fly in a conventional sense and rocket through the air at high speed[2].
  • Reactor: An engine located into Fulgore's chest, and one of his sources of energy. It can generate energy on its own, with the various levels marked by "pips", and also process Shadow Energy like a living body would do. One of its main functions is to make Fulgore faster, as his walk and dash speed increase proportionally to the energy levels of the reactor. The reactor charges itself overtime, although its speed varies depending on multiple factors. Attacking and pressuring the opponent will drastically increase the charging speed, while being knocked down or using Energy Bolt, Eye Laser and Plasmaport slow it down (but do not reduce the energy level itself). The second main purpose of the reactor is to enhance Fulgore's special attacks. Not only the pips can be spent to perform Shadow Moves, they can also be employed to make standard Special Attacks faster. In fact, by consuming pips Fulgore is able to string together Special Attacks, performing one immediately after another at higher-than-normal speed. Once the entire gauge is charged, Fulgore gains access to the Devastation Beam, which trades all the pips for an extremely powerful attack.

Shadow Energy is a source of power mainly found in the Astral Plane, but it also exists in limited quantities within the inhabitants of the Mundane Plane. However, only very few people are able to harness and manipulate such energy. Its most basic property is to passively increase one's statistics proportionally to the amount of Shadow Energy they own. Shadow Energy is very malleable and can be used for a variety of purposes, although only expert wielders, such as the Shadow Lords, are able to use its full potential.

Fulgore possesses rudimentary knowledge of how to handle Shadow Energy, thus he can only use it to enhance the strength and properties of his Special Moves, turning them into Shadow Moves. Initially these attacks were depicted as marked by a dense and iridescent trail that followed the user, but it was later changed into a purple aura that surrounds the user entirely.

Although it never leaves the user's body under normal conditions, there is an unknown limit to how many times an individual can summon this energy to perform Shadow Moves, before needing to let it recharge, a thing that can also happen in the midst of a battle. The only known downside of emptying one's reserves of Shadow Energy is the inability to perform Shadow Moves, as strength and other statistics don't seem to be affected by this temporary loss.
