Summary

Fio is one of the main protagonists in the Metal Slug franchise. Fio is the only daughter of the ridiculously wealthy Italian Germi family. The Germi family has produced a long line of soldiers, so Fio’s father naturally wished his first born to be a healthy boy.

But his only child resulting from a difficult birth was a girl who soon became the apple of his eye. Since Fio’s mother could no have children, this marked the first time ever in the Germi’s long history that its heir be female. And because tradition dictated that the head of the Germi family must serve in the military, Fio soon enlisted in the Government Forces at the urgings of her father. Fio was lovingly raised by her parents, in stark contrast to the environment Eri faced, to become an urbane young lady.

She studied chiropractics, acupuncture, and moxibustion in college, and hopes to become a sports doctor in the future. She accompanied her comrades in every chapter of the series, preventing the world to be destroyed or conquered by a great variety of foes.

She's the most skilled with special weapons in her squad. Shot an enemy soldier in the head with precision), Vehicular Mastery (Expert in driving military vehicles like tanks, submarines, aircrafts and other conventional or unconventional machines), Martial Arts (Is an expert at close combat), Acrobatics (Usually dodges bullets and other projectiles coming from multiple opponents and different directions. Can jump higher than normal and across multiple platforms. Can easily shoot downwards while jumping), Stealth Mastery (Is a Master Sergeant of the Intel Division of the Special Squad SPARROWS. Her weakest weapon, the handgun, takes only 9 shots to collapse a small building, while stronger weapons gradually increase in strength to the point of even dwarfing the total damage of said shots [more details can be found here, although numerical values and multipliers are not to be taken literally]. Can destroy large part of wooden buildings with a single rock throw. The laser gun can vaporizes human beings. The SV-001 releases such levels of force through self-destruction. Speed: Superhuman (Easily outruns soldiers) with Supersonic+ to possibly Hypersonic reactions/combat speed (Can dodge bullets, cannon shells, lasers on-foot and meteors while flying on space), Speed of Light attack speed with laser guns

Lifting Strength: Class 5 (Comparable to at least one of the Japanese Tank Soldiers, two of which can lift a small tank. Can easily throw large boulders with one hand when using a Stone weapon)

Durability: Wall level (Comparable to General Morden, who survived the explosion of his tank), higher with some vehicles.

Stamina: Superhuman (Can rush through and fight dozens of enemies while crossing or climbing environments like mountains, jungles and more. Can withstand prolonged battles with large machines, robots and other opponents that require many hits in order to be taken down)

Range: Standard melee range physically and with melee weapons. Tens to hundreds of meters with weapons and vehicles, possibly higher with the sniper rifle.

Equipment:

  • Handgun: A semi-automatic pistol that has unlimited ammo, but lacks the heavy firepower or high fire rate of other weapons. The handgun almost looks like the Enfield No.2 revolver.
  • Hatchet: Fio can use her hatchet for close-quarters combat when close to an enemy. Can kill humans in one strike and even hit multiple targets. Does more damage than a pistol shot.
  • Tonfa: Fio's second melee weapon. Just like the hatchet, it can kill humans in a single hit and deal more damage than the handgun.
  • Heavy Machine Gun: Fio always carries a Heavy Machine Gun with her. Has a very fast fire rate, its bullets are slightly more powerful than the handgun's. An upgraded version has a faster rate of fire and much larger shots. Fio starts with 300 ammo.
  • Grenade: Fio can throw a powerful grenade that explodes upon contact with an enemy or when it's momentum ends.
  • Punching Glove: A punching glove springs out of Fio's pouch when she's crouching near an enemy.
  • Radar: Fio possesses a radar that indicates the presence of enemies around her in a certain radius.
  • Parachute: Fio's pouch contains a parachute that can slow her motion while in the air

  • Rocket Launcher: Fires small, slow-moving rockets with great attack power. Can adjust rockets' trajectory somewhat to hit targets on different platform levels. An upgraded version fires larger rockets with much greater destruction.
    • Shotgun: A short-ranged weapon that has incredibly powerful blast. Is very effective at taking out groups of enemies when very close to them. An upgraded version fires a larger blast with double the range of the normal shotgun.
    • Flame Shot: Fires a large flame blast, but has limited range and a slow fire rate. Flame waves travel in a upwards trajectory when fired horizontally with longer range. An upgraded version fires a larger flame wave and is powerful enough to damage armored vehicles.
    • Enemy Chaser: Fires small rockets that chase enemies. The rockets are slightly less powerful than the standard rocket launcher, but compensates with homing capability and increased ammo capacity.
    • Laser Gun: Fires a laser that can cut down groups of infantry in row and destroy large vehicles effectively. An upgraded version fires a laser that's 5 times as wide as the regular laser and is much more powerful. Can be fired diagonally as seen in Metal Slug 6.
    • Two Machine Guns: Fires two streams of machine gun bullets as opposed to the single stream. Is fired from two sub-machine guns instead of the AR-10. Starts with 350 ammo, but is used twice as fast since this weapon fires two guns.
    • Iron Lizard: Fires remote-controlled missile cars which travel along the ground until making contact with a target by exploding and releasing a large blast of blue flame. Is very effective against infantry and very weak against vehicles.
    • Drop Shot: Fires landmines which immediately drop and bounce forward until they hit a target or lose momentum and stop moving.
    • Super Grenade: Fires large RPGs rather than rockets. Upon contact, a large plume of fire is shot straight up to take out an enemy above. Is very effective against light-armored vehicles.
    • Zantetsu Sword: A upgrade that powers up Fio's hatchet, allowing her to launch energy waves in-front of her. Is powerful enough to kill large numbers of enemies, destroy incoming bullets and armored vehicles.
    • Thunder Shot: Fires blue lightning bolts that homes in onto enemies. Pierces through multiple enemies at once, making it a very useful weapon for getting enemies in a line. Starts with 20 rounds.
    • Sniper Rifle: Does fair amount of damage and has an extreme projectile range. A scope is provided.
    • Fire Bomb: Essentially molotov cocktails, which can cause flames over a large area and burn shielded enemies on contact.
    • Stone: Turns Fio's grenades into large boulders which trade damage and explosiveness for increased range.
    • Monolith: When thrown, shoots a beam into space and then brings down a big tablet, crushing any tanks or people under it.
    • Smoke Bomb: When thrown, produces a large wide screen of smoke that blinds enemies when they're in. Fio can also use these to sneak right past them.
    • Thunder Cloud: An artificial thunder cloud loaded with negative electromagnetic energy. The cloud will hover over the nearest target and zap it with lightning bolts until all its energy is used.
    • Mobile Satellite: A small, hovering remote control device resembling a satellite, armed with a rapid-fire ion cannon. It tracks down any possible target and discharges ion bolts continuously on them until they're defeated. Once its battery runs dry (200 ion bolts and it runs down) the satellite will fall and explode.
    • Snowball: A simple snowball. Throwing it will place a mini snowman on the ground that will block a person inside it should they touch it.
    • Vomit Laser: Zombie form only. A deadly, bloody, vomit attack which unleashes a giant wave of blood from Fio's mouth that covers a wide range. This attack can kill most enemies instantly and deal massive damage towards stronger opponents.

    • Metal Slug Attack: A self-destruct move that can be performed with most Slugs. Fio will toss her Slug onto enemy groups, jumping out of the Slug immediately. Vehicle Slugs trample over enemy infantry with ease but crash at bigger enemies or walls. Animals, however, will turn around and continue running.
    • SV-001 "Metal Slug": A tank vehicle that features vulcan guns and a powerful shell-firing shells. Its sheer strength and weight can crush cars and knock infantry out of the way with ease. It can be upgraded with the Armor Piercer, a fast-travelling, armor-piercing tank shells that tear any vehicle and infantrymen in its way in a straight line.
    • Slugnoid: A bipedal mech designed for combat in difficult terrain. It is equipped with rocket boosters that allows it to jump very high. It's equipped with two Vulcans attached to each of its sides. The secondary weapon is an incendiary shell, which is fired from its frontal cannon in the pelvic area. Certain versions of this Slug have higher jumping capability or the secondary weapon replaced by Iron Lizard projectiles.
    • Slug Flyer: A Super Vehicle designed for aerial combat. While it possesses excellent maneuverability, its Vulcans have limited range. It is also equipped with air-to-air missiles that, while being powerful, take some time to accelerate after being deployed.
    • Slug Copter: An aircraft that comes equipped with Vulcan cannons, capable of rotating 360°. It also comes equipped with heavy air-to-ground bombs that cause massive damage.
    • Jetpack: If Fio loses her air vehicle/slug, she will receive and use a back-up jetpack, able to fly in the air and use homing missiles from its pack.
    • Slug Mariner: A single-crew minisub. It come equipped with two Vulcan cannons. However, water resistance decreases the range of the Vulcans, so it is loaded with incendiary ammunition that sink when shot so it would hit enemies below. It also fires powerful torpedoes that create a large shockwave upon impact.
    • Scuba Suit: If Fio loses the Slug Mariner, she will receive and use a scuba suit that allows her to swiftly swim and fire missiles from her backpack.
    • Drill Slug: A drilling machine designed to dig tunnels. The drill is equipped with Vulcans for long ranged engagements and a drill on the chassis for close-range combat which will automatically activate whenever something touches it. Instead of a cannon, the Drill Slug extends its bore drill from its chassis.
    • Slug Digger: A multi-purpose subterranean digger as well as a helicopter. It has retractable drills on the left, right, and bottom sides which are used to drill into the earth and sports two Vulcan cannons. Its cannon shot is a mine that stays in place until an enemy touches it or it is shot.
    • Astro Slug: A spaceship designed to fight in space engagements. It is only equipped with a semi-automatic cannon on the top, but it can be equipped special weapons using two pods on each of its sides along with its Vulcans. It also comes equipped with limited, powerful, unguided missiles that serve as firepower support.
    • Space Suit: If Fio loses the Astro Slug, she will receive a space helmet and a jetpack, to fly in space and fire missiles from her backpack.
    • Camel Slug: A camel equipped with a 14mm Vulcan and nothing else, but the rider can still throw its own grenades for additional firepower. It can't protect the rider.
    • Donkey Slug: A donkey with Vulcans attached to its sides and carriage with a cannon mounted on the top can be connected onto the Vulcans' hitch. It can't protect the rider.
    • Ostrich Slug: An ostrich with quick speed and high jumping ability. It comes equipped with a Vulcan. It does not provide any protection, and the rider is limited to using their own grenade supply.
    • Elephant Slug: This elephant is very slow and can only jump at a very short height, but it gives the rider a high profile, which is some protection. It is only equipped with a Vulcan, but it gets additional firepower by eating chili peppers or a car battery, after which the elephant becomes able to breathe fire or to shoot lightning from its proboscis.
    • Bradley: A tank that is able to fire a volley of rockets either directly in front of it or in an arc by rotating the turret. It also possesses a Vulcan on the side that boosts its firepower.
    • Metal Claw: A tank designed to provide support fire. Its weapons include guided missiles and a Vulcan. It also has a has a front plate that provides protection.
    • Slug Mobile: A speedy vehicle that performs well on roads. Its Vulcan provides excellent defense against aircraft, while the guided RPG under the front hood provides some anti-armor defense.
    • Forklift: A vehicle that doesn't have anything that can be considered as 'weapons'. Fio can shoot with her gun. This vehicle can hit enemies with its front fork.
    • Walking Machine: A crawling Slug made for exploration purposes. The pilot rides unprotected, able to use the Vulcan but otherwise limited to tossing grenades. It can jump higher than other Slugs.
    • Slug Trolley: A custom mine cart designed to walk over rails and equipped with a Vulcan. It can attach four additional wagons to itself which are equipped with unlimited cannons.
    • LV Armor: A maneuverable armor that can double jump thanks to its rocket boosters. It has a smoothbore cannon, which deploys from one of its claws for firing high explosive shells. It also possesses the ability to equip any weapon to its other claw.
    • Slug Armor: An improved version of the LV Armor with better armor. It now carries a Vulcan, as well as a cannon on the back. However, it cannot swap weapons nor double-jump.
    • Protogunner: A prototype vehicle with a cannon on its front along with a pair of Vulcan cannons on its side. It has a decent jumping capability and high maneuverability, but doesn't offer protection to the pilot.
    • Slug Gunner: The ultimate evolution of the SV-001. It can change between mech and tank forms, being equipped with a huge cannon, a Minigun and jets that enable it to jump high or perform a double jump. It also comes with a pile bunker for melee combat, which uses a revolver-like mechanism to empower its blows.
    • Augensterm: This Slug is designed to hang on both floor and ceilings. It is equipped with two vulcans and a harpoon that can pierce through enemy vehicles with ease.
    • Slug Gigant: A giant, mechanical monster that can crush everything on its way. It is equipped with a Vulcan in the front, two movable arms, and an energy wave attack that serve as bombs. It's the strongest and most durable of all conventional Slugs.
    • Rootmars Slug: The leader of the Martians, rescued and equipped with a dome-like helmet to protect its brain. It can fly and features a 360-degree Vulcan and a powerful electric brainwave that spreads around.

    Transformations:

    • Fat: After eating too much food, Fio will become fat. All of Fio's weapons will increase in size and change into a more comical appearance. This transformation increases Fio's firepower, but slows down her movements. The effects wear off after some time, or by collecting Diet Food.
    • Mummy: If hit by smoke breathed by mummies, or other specific and related attacks, Fio will turn into a mummy. As a mummy, Fio moves slower and can only use the handgun and regular grenades, suffering from a delay before throwing them. Sometimes, instead of a grenade, Fio will toss her own head, which has the same explosive effects and regrows immediately. The mummy form compensates for slow speed and a short jump delay with increased jump height and longer air time. This form can only be cured by a potion.
    • Zombie: When hit by a zombie's organic matter, Fio turns into a zombie. This transformation includes being restricted to her default handgun, and reduced movement speed, as well as a small hop instead of a jump. In turn, this form grants an enhanced durability. However, instead of using grenades, Fio will unleash a bloody, giant, vomit laser which can kill most enemies instantly and deal massive damage towards stronger ones. The transformation can be ended by picking up a med-kit.
    • Monkey: Getting hit by a de-evolution bullet will turn Fio into a small monkey. The monkey form has exceptional jumping ability, but reduced ground speed, and restricts Fio to using a small Uzi. Fio can also grab and climb across rails along the ceiling. This form can be cured by collecting a serum.
    • Super Devil: The Super Devil is an unknown entity who holds great strength and mysterious powers. It is a benevolent entity, and is able to possess soldiers and lend them its power. When possessed by the Super Devil, a soldier has green skin, glowing red eyes, and a more violent personality, but still retains its mind. The Super Devil turns the handgun's bullets into powerful cannon shells without delay and grants a special Mobile Satellite, which fires quick and infinite bolts.

    Intelligence: High (Fio is an experienced soldier, who quickly climbed the ranks of the army and became Master Sergeant in the Special Ops Squad SPARROWS. She is regarded as a cunning individual by her friends and even enemies like Oguma. Alongside her comrades, she foiled Morden's coup d'etat during the second Modern War. She participated in special missions in different parts of the world and fought against many different enemies, ranging from soldiers, aliens and monsters. She's consistently able to defeat huge opponents that would take a single hit to kill her. Was able to use the computer of the alien mothership "Rugname" with ease. In one occasion, she boarded and conquered a battleship of the Rebel Army all alone. Among her hobbies and skills there are cooking, dancing, chiropractic, acupunture and moxibustion)

    Weaknesses: Firearms' ammo are limited (except a handgun). Mummy/zombie form has terrible mobility.
