Explanations

Valiant Comics canon is split among various continuities due to several rights acquisitions. Here is an explanation of various canons.

  • Valiant Comics (1991 – 1996) – The original continuity, owned by Voyager Communications. Despite its acquisition by Acclaim Entertainment in 1994, Valiant Comics publications continued up until 1996.
  • Acclaim Comics (1996 – 2004) – A complete reboot of most Valiant Comics publications following its acquisition by Acclaim Entertainment, a video game publisher who sought to use their new line of comics as basis and promotion for a line of video games. Acclaim Entertainment went bankrupt in 2004 after a series of controversies and several games failing to meet sales expectations. Note that while all Valiant Comics titles were shut down, the new stories still took place in the same universe as the original.
    • Acclaim Entertainment (1996 – 2002) – Several video games based on the Acclaim Comics universe were published. The Turok series in particular was very successful, receiving six installments, though with some non-canonical to the main video game continuity. Even after Acclaim's bankruptcy, Turok would go on to receive a reboot and a remaster. Two Shadow Man games were also released, with the first becoming a cult classic among Nintendo 64 players and recently receiving a remaster. An Armorines video game and a crossover between X-O Manowar and Marvel Comics' Iron Man were also released, to lesser success and critical reception. Some of these video games were preceded or otherwise advertised with short tie-in comic book series or one-shots.
  • Valiant Entertainment (2012 – present) – In 2005, Valiant Entertainment was founded by Dinesh Shamdasani and Jason Kothari, who had acquired the rights to most of Valiant's cast, and completely rebooted it. Since 2018, Valiant Entertainment was acquired by DMG Entertainment. Certain alternate versions of the main VE universe exist, such as the high-school themed Valiant High.
    • Valiant Entertainment has released (non-canonical) content in other forms of media, such as the Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe 2016 live-action web series, and the 2020 Bloodshot movie.
