Shunsui Kyoraku
Throwing away victory for the sake of manners is a rookie mistake. Captains don't have the time to waste on that kind of thing. Don't waste your time trying to play the good guy. No matter what debts you may owe, from the instant you find yourself on the battleground, both sides are evil.
~ Shunsui to Love Aikawa

Shunsui TYBW Render
Honor? Is that what you are all talking about? Then let us speak instead of our duty to the Gotei 13. Honor will not protect the world. I do not believe that using evil to defeat evil is itself an evil act.
~ Shunsui to The Gotei 13

Powers and Abilities:

Attack Potency: At least Country level (Possesses combined Attack and Spiritual Pressure stats that surpass Byakuya's[23], he destroyed Kiko-Oh with Jushiro, and while certainly weaker than Yamamoto, Yamamoto hypes him up as transcendent in battle and implies that with Jushiro he could put up some kind of fight against Yamamoto[24][25][26][27] [Statistics Values 1]) | Multi-Continent level (Clashed with Starrk[28] [Statistics Values 2]), higher with Katen Kyōkotsu (Shunsui cracked Escudo[29], cut Resurreccion Starrk, with enough force to sever Starrk's arm, it was only nicked thanks to Iro Oni reducing the damage[30][31], and Unmasked states that Shunsui's Shikai power surpassed Starrk's full power[32] [Statistics Values 3]) | Multi-Continent level (Kubo implies that Shunsui has not gotten stronger[33][Statistics Values 4]), higher with Katen Kyōkotsu (Harms Robert[34], and as aforementioned, Shunsui's power is implied to not have changed much since the Fake Karakura Town battles[Statistics Values 5]) | Multi-Continent level

Speed: At least Massively Hypersonic (Kept up with Starrk, dodged his barrage of Ceros) | Sub-Relativistic (Kept up with Lille) | Sub-Relativistic  (Can accompany Tokinada

Lifting Strength: Class M (Clashed with Starrk) | At least Class M (Stronger than before) | At least Class M

Striking Strength: At least Country level (Should be comparable to his Attack Potency) | Multi Continent level (Comparable to his Attack Potency, as he clashes physically with Starrk), higher with Katen Kyōkotsu (Comparable to his Attack Potency, as he was able to physically match Starrk's wolf blades) | Multi-Continent level (As strong as before), higher with Katen Kyōkotsu (As strong as before) | Multi-Continent level

Stamina: Superhuman (Much weaker characters can fight with injuries that would be fatal to a normal physically fit human and can go on for several days if not weeks. Kyoraku himself has proven capable of continuing to fight despite large holes shot through his torso)

Range: Hundreds of Meters with Shikai abilities and Kidō spells, Bankai can affect an area Tens of Kilometers if not Hundreds of Kilometers

Standard Equipment: His Zanpakutō, Katen Kyototsu, a pair consisting of a tachi and a wakizashi.

Intelligence: Genius, Despite his laid-back attitude, Shunsui has repeatedly shown himself to be a perceptive and insightful man. According to Yamamoto, even when he was younger, Shunsui has always had an eye for seeing the true character of anyone he meets. He was also one of the few people to suspect that Aizen was hiding something. In battle, Shunsui has proven to be very adept at noticing and understanding details in an opponent's skills or attack patterns. During his battle against Chad, he quickly determined the basics behind Chad's Reiryoku blasts, warning him about those kinds of techniques, and even explaining that his energy blasts would eventually use up his life energy. Shunsui has also proven himself very persuasive. Shortly after becoming Captain-Commander, he was able to convince Central 46 to agree to all his new requests.

Weaknesses: Shunsui can be very lazy. Shunsui is also forced to obey the rules of his Shikai or he himself will die. The wide range of his Bankai means he has to wait until his allies get of range before he can use it, lest he accidentally hurts them as well.

Notable Attacks and Techniques:

  • Hakuda (はく?):
    • Tsukiyubi (つきゆび?): A technique where the user simply extends the index and middle fingers of one hand in unison while they are in contact with an opponent. This gesture possesses enough physical force to effortlessly send someone of even Chad's stature flying several meters away.
    • Ikkotsu (いっこつ?): A single powerful punch.
    • Sōkotsu (そうこつ?): A powerful two-fisted punch.
  • Kidō (どう?):
    • Bakudō #61: Rikujōkōrō (ばくどうろくじゅういちりくじょうこうろう Bakudō no Rokujūichi・Rikujōkōrō?): Upon pointing at his target, Shunsui generates 6 prongs of Reiatsu that close in on the target to immobilize them in place. It restricts all movements.
    • Bakudō #63: Sajō Sabaku (ばくどうろくじゅうさんじょうばく Bakudō no Rokujūsan・Sajō Sabaku?): Shunsui generates a chain of Reiatsu that wraps around the target to immobilize them.
    • Bakudō #79: Kuyō Shibari (ばくどうななじゅうきゅうようしばり Bakudō no Nanajūkyū・Kuyō Shibari?): Shunsui generates eight orbs of continuous generation of Reiatsu around the target with a ninth on the target to immobilize them.
    • Bakudō #81: Dankū (ばくどうはちじゅういちだんくう Bakudō no Hachijūichi・Danku?): Upon activation, Shunsui generates a barrier that is capable of the complete nullification of any Hadō of the level 89 or lower. However, this barrier is not solely limited to Hadō as it can nullify the effects of abilities that are similar to Hadō.
    • Hadō #1: Shō (どういちしょう Hadō no Ichi・Shō?): Shunsui points at his target with his index finger, a small amount of energy is dispelled from the tip of the index finger with enough force to thrust a considerable amount of kinetic force at a target, which is pushed back a few feet from the practitioner.
    • Hadō #4: Byakurai (どうびゃくらい Hadō no Shi・Byakurai?): Shunsui gathers high-density spiritual energy, which they discharge from both hands. Alternatively, Shunsui points at the intended target with their index finger and generates a concentrated bolt of lightning to use against the target.
    • Hadō #11: Tsuzuri Raiden (どうじゅういちつづりらいでん Hadō no Jūichi・Tsuzuri Raiden?): An electric current is run through any object Shunsui touches, which damages anything or anyone which is in contact with the object the current runs through.
    • Hadō #12: Fushibi (どうじゅうふし Hadō no Jūni・Fushibi?): A Kidō net which can be accompanied with Shakkahō, which has entangled his opponents, resulting in a large explosion around all of them.
    • Hadō #31: Shakkahō (どうさんじゅういちしゃっほう Hadō no Sanjūichi・Shakkahō?): Generating high-temperature flames, Shunsui discharges it from one or both hands. The practitioner generates and fires an orb of crimson red energy on his palm or finger. The orb can be small, medium, or large, depending on the level of power being used. The destructive power released by the blast can vary between a simple explosion to a pillar of energy, and in both instances, the spell causes concussive as well as burn damage.
    • Hadō #32: Ōkasen (どうさんじゅうおうせん Hadō no Sanjūni・Ōkasen?): Raising their Zanpakutō horizontally in front of them, Shunsui generates a yellow orb, which widens itself along the length of his sword. Once it is fully charged, it fires a wide, horizontal arc of yellow energy at the target. One's hand can be used as a catalyst for the spell instead of a Zanpakutō, but it produces a shorter arc.
    • Hadō #33: Sōkatsui (どうさんじゅうさんそうつい Hadō no Sanjūsan・Sōkatsui?): Blue flames are discharged from the palm of his hand at his target and generates a torrent of blue energy before firing it. The energy moves like a direct blast or a large wave of energy, dependent on the amount of power which is placed into it.
    • Hadō #73: Sōren Sōkatsui (どうななじゅうさんそうれんそうつい Hadō no Nanajūsan・Sōren Sōkatsui?): An advanced form of Hadō #33: Sōkatsui, it has twice the effectiveness. Generating blue energy with his index and middle fingers, Shunsui makes a pushing motion with both of his palms to push the gathered energy toward the target in a concentrated blast. It is essentially a doubled version of Sōkatsui because the user fires two bursts of blue energy with much greater potency than the single shot variety.
    • Hadō #54: Haien (どうじゅうはいえん Hadō no Gojūshi・Haien?): Shunsui fires an oblong blast of purple energy from their hand which completely incinerates a target upon contact.
    • Hadō #57: Daichi Ten'yō (どうじゅうななだいてんよう Hadō no Gojūnana・Daichi Ten'yō?): Shunsui thrusts his hands outward, causing objects around him to levitate and throwing them toward the destination which he chooses. The technique is precise enough to counter opposing flying objects.
    • Hadō #58: Tenran (どうじゅうはちてんらん Hadō no Gojūhachi・Tenran?): Levitating his sheathed Zanpakutō in front of him, Shunsui lightly hits one of its ends, causing it to spin like a fan. Stopping it, Shunsui creates a widening tornado-like blast, which is fired toward the target. A hand can be used as a catalyst for the spell if his Zanpakutō is not available.
    • Hadō #63: Raikōhō (どうろくじゅうさんらいこうほう Hadō no Rokujūsan・Raikōhō?): Lightning Reiryoku is gathered into Shunsui's arm and released towards the target like a shock-wave.
    • Hadō #78: Zangerin (どうななじゅうはちざんりん Hadō no Nanajūhachi・Zangerin?): Shunsui generates a large amount of energy from his Zanpakutō before blasting it outward in an arc-like slash.
    • Hadō #88: Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō (どうはちじゅうはちりゅうげきぞくしんてんらいほう Hadō no Hachijūhachi・Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō?): A high-level Hadō which only Kidō masters can use. Shunsui raises his arm forward and outstretched, occasionally using their free hand to grip the firing arm for extra support, with the palm facing flat toward the target, and fires a gigantic beam of electrical and spiritual energy, which creates an enormous explosion upon impact.
    • Hadō #90: Kurohitsugi (どうきゅうじゅうくろひつぎ Hadō no Kyūjū・Kurohitsugi?): The target is sealed inside a large black coffin and are seemingly cut while inside. A large torrent of gravity is located inside that distorts space and time while restricting any chance for escape.
    • Hadō #91: Senju Kōten Taihō (どうきゅうじゅういちせんじゅこうてんたいほう Hadō no Kyūjūichi・Senju Kōten Taihō?): Generating ten pink energy points around himself, Shunsui fires them all at his target, resulting in an exceedingly devastating explosion.
    • Hadō #96: Ittō Kasō (どうきゅうじゅうろくいっとうそう Hado no Kyūjūroku: Ittō Kasō?): A powerful rolled-up flame is generated from a catalyst of the caster's own body. It is Gisei Hadō, a prohibited Hadō as it requires sacrifice in terms of the caster's body.
    • Hadō #99: Goryūtenmetsu (どうきゅうじゅうきゅうりゅうてんめつ Hadō no Kyūjūkyū・Goryūtenmetsu?): Five large pillars of light are generated around the caster composed of Reiatsu that resemble large dragons. A forbidden Kidō as it not only destroys the surroundings, it absorbs nearby Reiatsu to enhance itself.

Katen Kyokotsu, Shikai Image

Katen Kyōkotsu in its Shikai

  • Katen Kyōkotsu (てんきょうこつ?): Katen Kyokotsu has the power to make children's games a reality, she forces all within it's area of influence to abide by the rules of the game of choice including Shunsui himself or die.
    • Bushō Goma (しょう?): A game based around a spinning top, Shunsui unleashes a whirling blast of wind strong enough to buffet even Starrk and distract him long enough to set up Taka Oni.
    • {Taka Oni (たかおに?): A game where whoever is highest, 'wins'. Shunsui leaps high in the air to initiate this game but its effects are never seen due to being interrupted by Stark.
    • Kageoni (かげおに?): In this game, the rules are simple, Whoever get's their shadows stepped on "loses". The game allows the contestants to manipulate shadows. Shunsui has showcased various techniques in this game such as completely hiding his presence within the shadows, attacks the shadows an opponent is standing on therefore transferring the game to said opponent. In addition to this Shunsui is capable of creating multiple "shadow clones" to aid him in combat.
    • Irooni (いろおに?): In this color based game, you must call out the name of the color you wish to attack. Attacking anything else that isn't the color shouted cause the attacks to be ineffective. If the color that is called doesn't exist on the target the damage is reduced. By calling out a color that you yourself is wearing, the damage you deal becomes proportional to the amount of color on you so it's wise to call out the color you have on the most.
    • Daruma-san ga Koronda (るまさんころんだ?): This is one of most complex games Katen Kyokotsu has shown, it is based around the idea that whenever one's back is turned or they aren't focusing on their opponents. Said opponent has free rein to blitz along the nearest reiatsu path to their opponent and attack them from behind. It is similar to red-light green-light with one person's back being turned and intermittently attempting to catch the players moving. It allows Shunsui to blitz opponents standing right in front of him if they drop their focus for the briefest moment due to Kageokuri's illusory duplication ability, and seemingly will always put him in position behind his opponent for a sneak attack.
    • Kageokuri (かげおく?): A game whereby staring hard enough at an opponents shadow, Shunsui or his opponent can project illusory afterimages in a different location completely indiscernible from his real self if the opponent were to take his eye off of him for a single moment. Shunsui is skilled enough in this game he can create several duplicates of himself the moment the enemy were to take their eyes off of him.
    • Yubikiri (ゆび?): A game which punishes you for lying. If you lie to each other, your fingers get paralyzed on the first lie; your whole body feels like it is getting crushed by a fist on the second lie and finally, on the third lie, you feel unimaginable pain as if your viscera were being stabbed from the inside. It was a technique meant to extract information from the kind of opponent who lies during battle, but it worked on people 'other than one's own self'. This game had one single disadvantage. As long as the game is activated, the wielder is not allowed to lie.
  • Bankai: Katen Kyōkotsu: Karamatsu Shinjū (ばんかいてんきょう骨枯松心こつからまつしんじゅう?): Upon release, an aura covers a large area around Shunsui. This aura changes others' perception of the surrounding environment, making them perceive it as darkened, bleak and gloomy, and causes others to feel varying levels of melancholy and despair.
    • Act One: The Sharing of Pain (いちだん』"躊躇疵分合ためらいきずのわかちあい" Ichidanme: Tameraikizu no Wakachiai?): Shunsui activates this ability and immediately all his wounds appear on his opponent's body, bypassing even intangibility, with any and all wounds being shared and further, being unable to outright kill from the mutual wound sharing.
    • Act Two: The Pillow of Shame (だん』"ざんしとね" Nidanme: Zanki no Shitone?): Shunsui activates this ability after his First Dan, opening numerous bloody sores upon his opponent's body that weep blood profusely and without end.
    • Act Three: The Abyss (さんだん』"だんぎょのふち" Sandanme: Dangyo no Fuchi?): Shunsui summons an immense watery prison that encapsulates himself and his opponent and slowly drains reiatsu whilst freezing them both in the water until one runs out of reiatsu and dies. This watery hell is literally inescapable and seemingly reverts direction upon attempting to be fled somehow, as well as forcibly begins to freeze one's resolve as well as their body.
    • Final Act: Thread Cut Blood-Soaked Throat (しめだん』"糸切いときりばさみぞめの喉笛のどぶえ" Shime no dan: Itokiribasami Chizome no Nodobue?): Shunsui summons a thread of Reiatsu that he wraps about his opponent's neck, then pulls it taut to slice open their neck, causing their neck to forcibly explode and decapitates them outright.
