I have many faces. You have known me as Kali, goddess of destruction.
As the Keeper of the Greenworld.
As the Man of Miracles.
My children call me Mother, but I am beyond male and female. There is no greater power than me.
~ The Mother to Spawn

Summary

The being known as Mother is the creator of the universe. There is no being greater than she, and her powers appear to be limitless. She is known as Mother to her children, of which there are more than there are numbers, but she is neither male nor female. In fact, she often appears as males if the situation suits her. She has appeared in many forms throughout the ages and can appear differently to different people simultaneously.

Of her countless children, her two greatest disappointments were entrusted with the planet Earth. These two beings, whom we know as God and Satan, have squabbled and fought for ages. Their incessant bickering developed into complete hatred for one another and eventually all-out war. Ordinarily, Mother would have allowed them to continue fighting as they saw fit (as she rarely gets involved with the affairs of her children). These two petty and hateful children, however, despite their never-ending feud managed to create something beautiful and wholly unique in the universe – mankind.

Mankind was created by God to serve his will, but his creation was tainted by his hateful brother Satan. Man was given free will so as to disobey God’s commands. The combined influence of both God and Satan led to the unique creation that is a human being - a creature capable of boundless artistic expression and limitless love, a creature which Mother deemed important enough to protect personally. During Armageddon, she appears to Spawn in the guise of the Man of Miracles, acting as his guide so that he may fulfill his role of stopping the Apocalypse and saving humanity from the forces of her two children. Gaia, ruler of the green world, is also one of her many children.[1]

Powers and Stats

Tier: At least Low 1-C

Name: Kali, The Goddess of Destruction, The Keeper of the Greenworld, The Mother of Existence, The Man of Miracles, The Mother, The Father, God, Mother of Miracles, Mother of Creation, The Greenlady, Mother Earth, Mother Gazer, Mother Nature, Gaea, Gaia, Jesus Christ, Sir Lancelot

Origin: Spawn (Verse)

Gender: Inapplicable (Is beyond male and female[2])

Age: Older than Time itself. Predates all creation.

Classification: Supreme Deity, Mother of all things

Powers and Abilities:

Same as Spawn, Satan and God, including:

Attack Potency: At least Low Complex Multiverse level (Far more powerful than her children; is one with creation, everything that ever was or will be[12], which includes uncountably infinite timelines and higher levels of existence[14], including Heaven and Hell, which the latter is stated to be neither a place or an idea, but rather a state of mind, hidden below the underside of a bottomless pit of despair that can't be climbed, one that transcends all categories of thought, and the former contains Elysium, which touches on all parts of infinite space-time continuums. Created an infinite number of children which are all comparable to God and Satan)

Speed: Omnipresent (Superior to Malebolgia and Mammon; stated to be everywhere[3])

Lifting Strength: Unknown, at least Class Y (Far stronger than Satan), likely far higher

Striking Strength: At least Low Complex Multiverse level

Durability: At least Low Complex Multiverse level, likely far higher

Stamina: Infinite (Greater than Malebolgia who is omnipotent in the 8th Sphere[15])

Standard Equipment: None notable

  • Optional Equipment: Staff (as the Keeper of the Greenworld); Sickles, Spears, Halberds, teeth and an extra pair of arms (as Kali)

Intelligence: Omniscient (Has watched over Spawn[16] long before they met. Upon his arrival to the Greenworld, she recognized his name[10] and knew what his desires were[12] after the White Light as well as his memory[17] of him hitting his wife. Instantly knew Christopher's name and everything about him and his past[13]. Foresaw that the end of mankind was inevitable[2])

Weaknesses: Bound by complex and arbitrary rules that she herself created[2]. Apparently capable of being banished from Earth for ten thousand years[18].

Feats:

  • Made an infinite number of children comparable to Satan and God.

Note:

  • Do not attempt to scale the Mother of Existence to 1-B based on the scan from Tom Judge's The Rapture stating there are at least twenty dimensions. The comic was published by Top Cow, which is a different continuity from Image Comics, and is thus not canon to the Spawn series.

Explanations

Despite appearing as The Keeper in Spawn #75, Man of Miracles was first introduced in Spawn #150. This character was similar to a character known as Miracleman (originally Marvelman) created by Mick Anglo in 1954 and revived by Alan Moore in 1982. In Man of Miracles' original appearance, he is named Mike Moran, the same human identity of Miracleman and wears almost the same costume. Todd McFarlane had bought the rights to Eclipse Comics and believed that Miracleman, a character who appeared under that publisher, was part of the deal, but the rights to the character of Miracleman have been much contested and a judge determined that McFarlane did not hold the rights to Miracleman. The two characters of Mother of Existence and Man of Miracles were then combined into one. According to a retcon, they were supposed to always have been the same being. Due to Resurrection and #250 the character and the arcs that feature him were retconned from the series. However, Spawn #297 confirmed that Man of Miracles still exists and in the King Spawn series, Man of Miracles is retconned into being simply Gaia.
