Summary

Hyper Metal Sonic (ハイパーメタルソニック Haipā Metaru Sonikku), or just Metal (メタル Metaru), is one of the two main antagonists of the two-episode 1996 Japanese anime series; Sonic OVA.

Dr. Robotnik's scheme (presumed to be the latest in this continuity) is to create a copy of his greatest adversary, Sonic the Hedgehog, in order to defeat him once and for all. Using trickery and the life force data of his fleshy donor, Dr. Robotnik successfully created his greatest creation yet.

Hyper Metal Sonic made an impressive first impression to Sonic, out-speeding him before Sonic could reach the doctor. He then proceeds to out maneuver and out skill his original. In his 1st fight, Metal came out as the winner.

In a twist of fate, Metal shared a mental link between himself and Sonic. During the OVA, Metal knew everything Sonic knew, like his favorite clothes and the location of the ice caps at the North Pole. This connection went both ways for the Hedgehogs, as they understood what the other was going to do. At one point in his fight at the North Pole, Tails used Robotnik's tech to transfer Sonic's personality to Metal but was only able to give him free will before being interrupted by Robotnik. Metal ultimately died in lava, deciding only one of them should continue to exist.

A robot created for destruction, Metal in his final moments choose to rescue 2 bystanders from harm. But he refuses Sonic's hand to be saved.
